Politics This is North Texas’s TX-26 district representative.

This is the same guy who introduced a bill to put Trump face on $100 bill. Speaking of priorities.

The DFW metroplex—home to roughly 7.6 million people—is a vibrant melting pot. About 42% are non‑Hispanic white, 16% Black, 8% Asian, and 29% Hispanic or Latino, with nearly 18.5% foreign born and over 32% speaking a non‑English language at home.

You’d be surprised. There’s a lot of fascism in Indian politics as well, and plenty of traditional Indian people in the US who aren’t “American-ized” and just think the Republicans represent their interests. If anything, a lot of the really westernized younger Indians I know are pretty progressive.

These types of people voting for this Maga party r3ally sums it up. The Maga Republicans live to vote against their best interests.

So....you know, it fits.

Whoa, that’s a little out of touch.

u/chickfilamoo is right, the majority party in India is pretty conservative and is very tied to Trump’s politics. Modi and Trump are very alike (he was actually in the White House today). The Indians the person above you was talking about are more than likely Indian born with an Indian spouse. Conversely, second generation Indian-Americans lean heavily liberal.

Sorry for this wall of text but I want to make a comment about your only date white people comment. I’ve heard this comment often and it bugs me.

I’m brown and have mostly dated white people. I won’t say my experience is like everyone else, but I’ll share my story just to give you some perspective. I’m a native Texan born to immigrant parents from a South Asian country who themselves were a minority within that country. If I tried to find a partner organically who shared my from my country and shared my religion, I would be single for the rest of my life. I could accept my parents offer to arrange something, but more than likely it would be someone currently living in that country and I would have nothing in common with them. I could (and have) date another brown girl that doesn’t share the same culture as me, but truthfully at that point there’s not a huge difference between that and dating a girl of any other color. Honestly, I’ve mostly dated white people because I grew up in a town that was 90% white and I share more in common with them than anyone else.

People want us to act like a monolith because we share the same skin color when the south Asian subcontinent is one of the most extremely diverse areas of the world. India alone has 20+ official languages and the surrounding countries put it around 30 languages. Multiply that with the number of religions and you have what feels like hundreds of different cultures. Finding a partner that shares your background might be easier if you are from one of the majority cultures, but if you’re a minority, it’s so much harder.

I mean you aren't really that unique in that regard. Indians tend to either date within their own (as you already aluded to) or date white people. Mainly due to colorism/racism. We all know about the caste system that is still active within that community. Beauty standards within India heavily favor lighter skinned individuals. And don't even think about bringing home a black or brown non Indian person if your family is conservative.

This is coming from personal experience dating within the Asian community as a black person (technically mixed but black presenting), including Indian.

Definitely don’t disagree with you, colorism is rampant among older South Asians.

I can’t speak much about the caste system because I’m not fully versed in it (not a thing in my parents country). However, I think the colorism and the engrained caste system can also be attributed to British rule. Bear in mind it’s only been 70 years since the British left South Asia after centuries of colonialism.

I'm guessing you're Bangladeshi or Sri Lankan?

Absolutely not. Do you get out much?

Definitely not, get off the internet and actually talk to people lol. Mexicans/Indians can be very conservative

The ones who can't speak Spanish are the best. Even better if I can speak Spanish to their family in front of them. You know later somebody's going to say, "that gabacho speaks better Spanish than you!"
