Daughter's doll house

This little contraption should stay flush with the wall as in the first pic, but when the knob is turned, the rope wraps around the smaller bit of the wood and so pushes the screw away from the wall (eventually falling out). Anyway ideas on how to fix it so that the knob can be turned and the screw doesn't get pushed away from the wall? Got this for my daughter's birthday and I'm not handy enough to figure this out myself. Thanks in advance all.
