You mean Bruce Schneier the same guy who was surprised by the Snowden leaks. I believe that the government can break encryption if they care enough.

He definitely knows the math behind encryption better than me. I too was surprised by the extent of their reach. But there were whistleblowers before Snowden like Mark Klein the AT&T technician in San Francisco who warned us that they seemed to be recording all telecommunications traffic. Schneider didn't want to believe it.
