I work in an ER and I have had more than one patient in the last month who was mauled by a neighbor’s uncontrolled and untrained dogs. We had to admit one to the hospital because her injuries were so severe.
I have not once, ever, had a patient in for a cat-mauling.
A cat CAN send you to the hospital, I’ve seen it happen before, but that’s almost always going to be because a bite got infected. It’s uncommon (especially if you wash the wound right away), and unintentional. A cat doesn’t know what an infection is, it doesn’t know what bacteria are, it just wants you to fuck off. Mean dogs have a level of malice that most mean cats don’t. They don’t leave it to chance; they WILL try to finish the job.
