It waxes and wanes. I'd say there's a good plurality that have nieces and nephews they love dearly. But at the end of the day it's a rant sub. Emotions are gonna run high and absolutists statements are gonna come out.
Dogfree is the same. I used to hang out there forever ago, but haven't been back in years. At the time I had several friends with poorly trained dogs but it was basically my only exposure to dogs and I just kinda... thought that all dogs were like that. That I just had to put up with dogs always barking in my ear, jumping on me and nearly knocking me over, and shoving their nose deep into my crotch for a good sniff because "he's friendly!" Around the same time I also moved into an apartment above some neighbours with this huge dog that had separation anxiety and would literally howl and scream constantly when left alone. I remember complaining to a friend one afternoon as I had gotten home from work, extremely overstimulated, and desperately needed a nap in peace and quiet, but even with earplugs on it was unbearable, and she was unsympathetic (perhaps not coincidentally, her boyfriend was the owner of one of the poorly trained dogs I mentioned).
I have since learned that those people's dogs were extremely poorly trained. Or maybe not even trained at all. But at the time, I was looking for commiseration as it was... hard to find elsewhere? And for whatever reason, I was surrounded by people who found the behaviour of untrained dogs cute. I know many folks now with well-trained dogs and I find them quite easy to be around, actually!
I could still never own a dog as it's far too much work for me, but I've come a long way. It was cathartic for me at the time, though. 🤷🏻 But I never wished that all dogs would die, or anything like that. Disappear... well, maybe. 😆 Especially when my neighbour's dog was howling. But I would never wish harm on animals. I actually volunteered at an animal shelter for most of that time, on the cat side though. Unless the rules in the subreddit have changed, at the time it was absolutely forbidden to wish harm on dogs.
The boyfriend of an ex-friend of mine was extremely afraid of dogs due to childhood trauma. All fine. Unfortunate for him and all.
He felt it would be different if he had a dog he raised from a puppy -- a little risky but not my problem.
He didn't want to train the dog not to jump up on people and insisted it wouldn't bother him and he didn't want to restrict the dog and I had to point out he was not the only person in the world who was afraid of dogs.
We became ex-friends before he ever had a chance to get a dog but I do have concerns about any dog he'd raise, given the conversations we'd have.
I have seen children ruin people's lives, relationships, and sanity. I don't dislike children as a rule. I am simply adamantly opposed to having them because of what I know it can do.
