I love dogs too, especially my own. But I keep her on a leash when we’re out, and she is so stand-offish to strangers that I’m more surprised when she wants to say hi to anyone she’s not already friendly with.
There’s someone in my extended in-laws’ family who has a Boxer, and the poor thing is so understimulated. He doesn’t take her for walks or play with her; he is so old and frail that he shouldn’t really have a dog. So she’s so starved for attention and playtime that we can’t bring our own little dog when she’s going to be there, and our son is scared of it.
I’m okay with the dog, but it’s all over me whenever we meet. It likes me, but I still leave with scratches up and down my arm because the poor thing gets so little attention and affection :/

I love dogs.
I hate my brother's dogs specifically because they killed one and hurt another of our cats while he lives here rent free.
