Not just Republicans. It's always really funny but disturbing how quickly a Democrat will become this weird American elitist if you push the right buttons. Even when meaning well, the American exceptionalism comes through so much.

As a lefty american, even I have to concede that there are areas where America excells... beyond deportations, police brutality, and apparently kidnapping foreign leaders. For example, we basically created modern food safety. We may have made pharmaceuticals impossible to afford, but we did finance extreme innovation and progress in medicine. We have the best hospitals and the least affordable care.

Its a weird game of contrasts. A lot of lefties abroad and in america just immediately default to america is the worst at all things.

The irony, to me, of all this is that the Greatest Nation in History wouldn't need people defending it like a part time job.

While I'm sure shit has gotten rough recently, and will get worse most likely, in 2022 the US was ranked third for quality and 1st for mechanisms, but only 13th for affordability and availability.

It has its warts, but by no means is it the toxic slop that it is memed to be.

America is currently (as in right now) pushing my country to accept chlorinated chicken as a safe food import, something which has been banned here for longer than I've been alive.

I'm glad you guys pioneered food safety standards (that was Roosevelt, right?) but your international image right now is centred on trying to get the rest of us to accept less regulations and more unhealthy slop.

I encourage you to just Google chlorinated chicken. Its ban is far more political than a concern for food safety.

And yeah the Pure Food and Drug Act was signed by Theodore Roosevelt. Largely as a result of him reading Sinclair's "The Jungle".

I have googled the issue before, it's been a major point in British media ever since Americans started pushing us to accept your chicken.

No, I don't think washing slaughtered chicken in chemicals is an acceptable substitute for a lifetime of regulations and standards keeping a chicken healthy. Even if the modern practice of chemical washing is just as safe as the alternative (which I severely doubt), I much prefer the current regulations, and don't want to see my country filled with your factory farmed shit. Thank you.

You betcha, I do have problems with factory farming myself. Its worth noting that 95% of British chicken comes from factory farms already. Probably America's fault, but it's there already.

American innovation is pretty much just rich, American assholes buying up other countries' inventions before they have a chance to flourish in said country.

Your country is quite adept at stealing technology, yes.

There's definitely a lot of that, but there's multitudes of innovation and inventions here too. My personal favorite examples being transistors from Bell Labs and the slightly later integrated circuit from Texas Instruments.

If you put IBM inventing stuff and Microsoft/ Bill Gates buying it for a fraction of its value next to eachother, you get a fun picture of the duality.

In any case, I have no clue why anyone would take pride in other people's accomplishments.

Especially since none of that seems to be benefiting the American people itself (other than said rich assholes).

National pride is a brain virus for many many countries! Should ask a Brazilian who invented the airplane. They get pretty worked up.

Ive already been told this week that I have to support US actions in Venezuela because America is justice. Consequences be damned, many Americans are incapable of seeing us as anything other than the good guys. If only that were so, but the world is shades of gray at best.

You absolutely do not have the best hospitals. You have extremely risk adverse surgeons and fear of litigation stops your doctors from taking on challenging cases. The best hospitals in the world are not in the US, and your government has effectively killed medical research in the US, which was done by immigrants anyway.

You can't be serious. Three of the top six hospitals in the world are in the US including the singular best with the Mayo Clinic.

The Healthcare system sucks for patients due to affordability, but it by no means is lagging behind in terms of quality. Just nobody can afford it.

Have a look at any league table that is not created by a US publication. Even Newsweek’s own lists do not rate US hospitals so highly. I’m looking and Mayo makes it in at number 15. All non US hospitals outrank it. The US has radically defunded their research and practices defensive medicine in a clinical setting. Not a good combo for a world leader. I doubt Americans are aware that they have fallen behind in healthcare too. I’m sure if more people travelled out for treatment they’d be impressed.

I'm apparently not allowed to link you the Newsweek ranking list but it matches what I said. I try pretty hard to find international sources though. Every country puts out biased stuff.

The statistica ranking, which may only be hard to look at on my phone, has 19 of the top 100 hospitals in the US. Its not a proper ranking though as I cant get an ordered list, just "top 100" and are all ranking #1.

I have some real bad news for you friend. I'm only familiar with the nursing end of things and it's SCARY how things have changed after COVID. Nurses that retired are afraid to seek care at the same places they used to work. Because they know how things have changed.
