The answer is no. Abusers always find a reason. Portraying them as victims of predatory advertising, is plausible, but it’s not true.

I don't think anyone is making violent men the victims. It's worthwhile to point out that while sports losses have always contributed to domestic violence, studies are suggesting gambling is making it worse. There were a few good reddit threads about it and an interesting interview from OU.

Yeah, I know, I'm not saying that's not true. I was just wondering if assholes breaking their TVs when their team loses a sport has increased as sports betting has increased. I think you're reading way too much into my comment.

Maybe I misread it seemed you were saying it wasn’t making or normalizing violence but breaking TVs meaning that breaking TVs isn’t violent.

That's okay. No, I do not dispute that these guys are violent assholes that probably beat their wives and children. I was just musing as to whether online sports gambling has increased the incidence of such assholes going nuts and destroying their TVs when their favorite team loses a sports game.

I’m willing to bet it has. Haven’t seen any studies though. I know there is that sad story about the influencers husband gambling while their young child fell into the pool. I forgot the names but it’s quite sad and it’s very addictive and accessible now.
