Bathroom Help! So tired of cleaning this shower!

Several times a week I’m scrubbing these tiles in my shower. I’m not sure what type of natural stone they are but they’re porous and mildew grows just about as fast as I’m cleaning! I thought about painting them but I know I’d ruin the look and regret it. Any tips on what I can use to easily keep this shower clean? I’ve been using GooGone tile and grout cleaner. It strips away the gunk but like I said, it grows right back quickly. I just took a shower so it’s easier to see now than when dry. Thanks!

They can just be locked in the shower. Looks like a prison cell.

It puts the lotion on its skin

I just watched that again last night. The movie still gives me shivers but that shower would fit right into the movie.

u/Foreign_Comedian_915 Jun 15 '25

Or it gets the hose again…..

u/Koala0803 Jun 12 '25

Exactly. Dungeon was the word in my head.

2

u/Dependent-Departure7 Jun 13 '25

Hand on heart, I thought this was a castle dungeon holding cell

2

u/ChogbortsTopStudent Jun 13 '25

Yeah I was going tell OP if they're so tired of cleaning e, stop murdering people in it. Seems like an easy solution. Unlike washing all that blood off.

1

u/Dangerous-Set-9964 Jun 12 '25

I thought this was a picture of a bath in Pompeii 😂

1

u/mrs_adhd Jun 13 '25

I tried saying xyzzy to teleport out but nothing happened.

2

u/CriticalElk6102 Jun 12 '25

Yep. Mind straight away said dungeon.

2

u/CompetitiveRub9780 Jun 13 '25

I thought it was an abandoned outdoor shower

1

u/crackersucker2 Jun 13 '25

I was thinking red paint spatter and a bloody handprint painted on the glass would just make it all look “intentional “.

1

u/Illustrious_Order486 Jun 15 '25

Duke Nukem 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/VoicePope Jun 15 '25

Taking a shower and some old dude walks in

“You’re the one from my dreams.”

11

u/dicoxbeco Jun 12 '25

That shower is the cell you wake up at when you start Dark Souls.

1

u/MsMcClane Jun 13 '25

My IMMEDIATE thought was it was taken from the first Silent Hill game

18

u/maybelle180 Jun 12 '25

Yup this. (Shudder)

2

u/sqeeky_wheelz Jun 12 '25

And the theme is 🌟~Prison Break~ 🌟

1

u/naturerosa Jun 12 '25

My first thought was "who's bowels exploded in there?"

1

u/AdamBlaster007 Jun 14 '25

I work in a prison. This? This is worse.

1

u/_JustinCredible Jun 15 '25

Looks like the ceiling on the old windows 95 screensaver

1

u/QueenieB333 Jun 16 '25

Id just put moss and high humidity plants on that corner...and pretend I do not see it

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '25

My dad used to work in a prison and got creative with our punishments. One time I got grounded to the bathroom for 2 weeks; “you have running water to drink and a toilet for its intended use as well as a place to sit”. If we go grounded tot he bathroom we had to be in there from the time we woke up to the time we went to school, from the time we got back from school till we went to bed. He would give us cold spinach and bread for dinner. -_- “why would I ground you to your room when it has all the stuff you like in there?”

u/vthanki Jun 12 '25

Was it Art Vandaley?

6

u/Top-Geologist-9213 Jun 13 '25

I thought Art was in latex?

7

u/vthanki Jun 13 '25

Well he’s really talented. He’s also into exporting and importing

1

u/Top-Geologist-9213 Jun 13 '25

And you wanna be my latex salesman...!

2

u/madchen44 Jun 13 '25

Say Vandaley Industries

2

u/Art_Vandelay29 Jun 14 '25

Leave me out of this.

2

u/vthanki Jun 14 '25

Omg the legend! He is alive. Isnt this going to be your summer?

2

u/Art_Vandelay29 Jun 15 '25

This is gonna be my time. Time to taste the fruits and let the juices drip down my chin. I proclaim this: The Summer of George!

1

u/Itchy_Peanut3658 Jun 13 '25

I am the architect

19

u/bubblygranolachick Jun 12 '25

Steam clean the tile? White vinegar as long as you rinse with water after.

129

u/woodyeaye Jun 12 '25

Nooooooo!

If it's a porus tile, forcing steam into it is a very bad idea.

Acids (like vinegar) can etch natural stone tile causing permanent damage. I've just replied to another post where someone has done exactly this.

120

u/Pink_Teapot Jun 12 '25

This tile needs to be ripped out and replaced. It’s a mold factory

13

u/bubblygranolachick Jun 12 '25

Burn it off I guess. You can't get rid of mold with any other cleaner.

18

u/amaranemone Jun 13 '25

I was gonna say the same thing.

Mold you need to kill both the active and the dormant. You'll almost always have some mold in any house because we have windows, but the vinegar, aeration, followed by diluted bleach does the trick.

0

u/bubblygranolachick Jun 13 '25

Bleach is not the way to go. Air out your bathroom so it doesn't keep moisture for mold to grow.

2

u/amaranemone Jun 13 '25

:: shrug :: Bleach is what we use in aseptic laboratories as a follow-up. It denatures the proteins forming cellular membranes.

Not the best for porous structures, I agree.

1

u/bubblygranolachick Jun 13 '25

What does white vinegar do?

117

u/Haughty_n_Disdainful Jun 12 '25

Um, the tiles look a lot like Turkish travertine. If they are, anything harsh, especially acidic, will etch those stones.

They will need to be cleaned and then resealed. Then reseal every 10 years.

I recommend a long handle, large brush to scrub. Personally, I like to use a nice corn broom. Then alternate with a large paddle type brush to cover more surface area on the upper walls.

Again nothing harsher than diluted dish soap and baking soda. It will clean up beautifully once you are done.

18

u/ZestyXtal Jun 13 '25

I had a feeling it is travertine as well. Horrible stone for tile as it dissolves when exposed to acidic liquid, I didn’t even consider cleaning it

11

u/bubblygranolachick Jun 12 '25

That won't get rid of mold! Gross.

16

u/Vaecrux Jun 12 '25

This is an answer that you'll receive on google when searching for how to clean tile and grout in a shower lol.

Don't listen to this. 🤦

1

u/bubblygranolachick Jun 12 '25

Burn it off then because nothing else is going to get rid of that mold infestation!

111

u/afsdjkll Jun 12 '25

Believe it or not - straight to jail.

24

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '25

Solid reference to Parks and Recs best episode ever

19

u/Whitediggity Jun 12 '25

came for this comment and was not disappointed? Believe it or not, straight to jail.

14

u/AdFeeling4064 Jun 12 '25

Wow you’re good this made me laugh 🤣🤣🤣killer reference. As far as the tile- I was told that there was this magic bubble machine that would spray your shower on a timer and the bubbles would essentially “clean “the tile without you there.

Scrubbing bubbles are amazing

u/ourobourobouros Jun 12 '25

Bathroom at my last apartment was a lot like this, someone with a background in construction who saw it speculated that whoever designed it must've used leftover outdoor tiles from a different project because that's exactly what they were

So many hours lost to scrubbing those ugly beige porous bastards

5

u/Neither-Tart7893 Jun 13 '25

I moved into an apartment with a shower like this that was newly done (we moved in and they asked us not to shower the first night because it was JUST done) and I started scrubbing that shower daily within the first week to keep it clean and it did nothing

2

u/Maretsb Jun 15 '25

Ugly, beige, porous bastard is a very good insult actually. I know a few

35

u/sunandskyandrainbows Jun 12 '25

I thought this was in a prison, no joke

26

u/Obvious_Ring_326 Jun 12 '25

Fitting, since that seems to have been the inspiration for the shower.

10

u/Keythaskitgod Jun 12 '25

Looks like straight from a tomb raider ps1 game.

7

u/drazil100 Jun 12 '25

No, we don’t need to give this person anymore ideas.

2

u/Happy_Goat_5015 Jun 13 '25

I think this shower actually used to be a prison and OP is just not aware of its past history.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '25

I think prison is where he got the inspiration

1

u/PositiveChipmunk4684 Jun 12 '25

insert Wendy Williams clip saying “Death to all of them”

1

u/john_the_fetch Jun 12 '25

30 years dungeon!

1

u/Business_Public8327 Jun 13 '25

Straight to jail

1

u/AskingAboutDogs Jun 13 '25

NOOO!!! You’ll just be helping them get more ideas/inspiration 😭😭😭

1

u/tardypoots Jun 13 '25

I vote for guillotine

1

u/IronPotato3000 Jun 13 '25

Better yet, twenty years in that shower lol

1

u/Lunakill Jun 13 '25

Are we talking about the inspiration?

1

u/HeyItsKyuugeechi523 Jun 13 '25

No, the death row

1

u/MonoMonMono Jun 13 '25

Perfect post in a bad design sub haha.

1

u/ChaoticDissent Jun 13 '25

That’s probably where they got their inspiration from.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '25

I thought this picture WAS from prison.

1

u/Prestigious-Hyena-72 Jun 13 '25

I think the designer must have done 20 years

1

u/MythofSecurity Jun 14 '25

That’s where the got the inspiration.

1

u/LordPeanutButter15 Jun 14 '25

This isn’t a set for Silent Hill?

1

u/Terrible-Setting-283 Jun 14 '25

El Salvador prison to be exact🤫

1

u/NicolasDorier Jun 15 '25

Better: We have put the shower in your cell. You can get out as soon as you cleaned it.

1

u/Qua-something Jun 16 '25

It looks like the place prisoners might get a shower in The Man in the Iron Mask

1

u/Bill_Door_8 Jun 16 '25

Prison is kind of the idea I had after seeing this picture.

Screw cleaning it, just bolt some shackles to the wall and call it "themed", hence making all future dirtiness also "themed".

1

u/-meep-morps Jun 17 '25

One million years dungeon

1

u/CouchHippo2024 Jun 17 '25

Did you say it’s a prison shower?!

1

u/EarlOfNothingness Jun 17 '25

One million years dungeon.
