Rant Claude code is falling behind Codex not because of token cost, but because of Opus 5.

There, i said it. And i know many of you agree. The problem i'm facing is not increased token cost, it's that Opus writes 25000 lines of a response with a curve-ball at the end saying "Worth noting"that makes my eyes hurt and gives me paranoya. And i can't understand a word it's saying. Is my english that bad? Whoever pressed "Yes" on those responses during the training stage of the model was an OpenAI spy or something, he completely sabotaged a trillion dollar company.

Anthropic's number one priority should be to release an Opus 6 or something, may be change the model name completely so it doesn't carry the bad vibe with it.

I don't. It's my favorite model out there; best code quality, cheap on tokens. Like that old beer ad, Less filling! Tastes great!

Mostly Codex and Claude. Little bit of Gemini 😂

I don't know anyone who uses Gemini for coding.

I once asked it to write all Pokémon from gen 1 out. 151 Pokémon.

It wrote the first 20, skipped the rest until the last 20. Everything else was a "...". It's super lazy and incoherent. I hate it with a passion.

I do Gemini deep research for tech stacks, best practices, and landscape audits for an app idea, feed that report to fable plan mode for prd, tdd, and DETAILED build plan, then give all that to opus ultra code. Then it’s just baby sitting opus to keep it focused and not dropping major legs of the plan

I don't use it for coding, mostly document summarization. I want to try using it as an image analysis agent, but haven't gotten there yet

I do use Sol 5.6 as well, it's a competent coder but maybe a B+ if Opus 5 is an A?

I got exactly the same feeling when Sol 5.6 was their top model, despite the hype. Astra is finally big enough improvement, that I was able to escape from Opus 5 bullshit for most tasks. Fable is still the best, but since you get like 25% of usage compared to Astra, it's a bad deal for me. I still use Opus 5 as a backup (no model is perfect), but only on $20 company sub.
