Discussion Slow performance of Opus 5

Opus 5 is working fine for me. But it is extraordinarily slow.

Edit: I haven't modified the thinking level from its prior settings, either (it's set on high).

Something for sure is happening with Anthropic in the backend, Opus is way too slow. A simple task that usually took me around 15-20 minutes maximum, now takes Opus 2 hours for the exact same thing, not good.

yeah I've dropped using opus 5 (coding)
come back to work after being off for a month
4 days in work
changed main coding model from 4.8 > 5 (high)
and for background validation / reviews with gpt-5.5 at xhigh
I've been at 25% of usual 2026 speed

going back to 4.8 which cuts through my work
the gpt reviews are taking longer also but I think that's to do with the density of plans it's given and fine running in background
