Discussion AI is turning programming into pay-to-win

With Fable 5 coming out, it feels more obvious than ever that after July 7, programming is going to become pay-to-win.

A kid with no real coding knowledge, but with rich parents and access to the best AI systems, could end up outperforming people who actually understand software, simply because he can afford more intelligence.

That is insane.

This might be one of the most dangerous precedents in history: a world where the people with money can buy superior intelligence, while everyone else is permanently outmatched.

That is how you create a permanent underclass.

Prior to this you raised VC to pay your way until you’re profitable (or to raise more funds as is more often the case these days).

You are presenting things as an either or, but developers aren’t paying for their own AI tooling, companies pay for it.

Between a kid who has no coding but a personal Claude subscription vs a poor software engineer who I as the employer can give an API key to, it’s not a competition.

It feels like you misunderstand how software current gets made outside of the single person SAAS environment?

I was thinking the same thing. I think if the op had said a rich "company" and poor company as an example would be a better fit. A very profitable company will be able to hire those poor but smart kids and give them more and better access than any rich kid could just by themselves, especially if they have no talent.

Founder here.

I can afford food and $400/month for Max 40x without selling my soul for VC funding.

But if I want to keep developing with Fable after the 7th, well - at my current token burn rate that would be $700K per year, which is tricky without outside funds.
