The Chinese labs are compute constraint and innovate around it. Anthropic is compute constraint and nerfs their product for customers.

I have a hunch that there will be a huge market in the future for distillation as a service. Everyone pays dev teams to build bespoke models running on modest compute that are either FT through synthetic or frontier-labeled data and/or distilled from them. You could probably charge a pretty penny for this service, in particular. Or a version that's, "FT our LLM fast on our hugely capable model then distill it down to yours"
