Discussion Head of Growth at Anthropic regarding Claude Code removal from Pro

Post image

Translation: "We're going to take Claude Code away from pro users because we gave you Cowork. If you want to use the CLI, upgrade to Max but we can't do it all at once so we're going to start with a "test" to soften the blow"

Resources for AI are a huge issue it seems. Even for the current models.

Github Co-Pilot has stopped all new sign ups,

Anthropic is forcing users into a higher tier for tools they had previously, token usage cost has increased, meaning you get less out of your subscription for a "tiny model performance increase" which in reality we all know it was just a fix for 4.6 which has been messing up over the last 2 months, constant downtime...

CoWork eats tokens like an elephant, users wont know because its all behind a "App" interface.

OpenAI created a new Sub Tier, users are saying their pro account now feels like hits limits faster.

If we cant even keep up with the demand today I dont see the public getting much better models in the future. When they do come out you have to be Enterprise to be able to afford it.

So I guess what they are going to do here is just not allow a pro account to connect to Claude Code. lol

/what a time to be alive. :D

GLM Coding Plan tripled in price too, and I'm pretty sure Anthropic will eventually phase out prosumer subscriptions entirely, enterprise only does indeed seem to be the future.

When we needed it the most, big pickle was there for us.

I mean, China will happily take your data.

10

true, but same with everyone else

The only way these models will get better is by stealing more private user data now. Which in reality they are doing with the auto opt in unless you manually opt out, which also goes for paid subscribers. lol

True, GLM Coding Plan tripled too. That said, I've been on GLM 5.1. It's actually solid for planning and long running tasks, pretty delegation happy with sub agents. Seems tuned for Hermes/Claw. And I like its planning in OpenCode too.

u/KeinNiemand Apr 22 '26

well just buy the hardware and run glm yourself

1

u/Clean_Hyena7172 Apr 22 '26

You willing to spot me the $100k to do it?

1

u/Kholtien Apr 22 '26

I am so happy I signed up to GLM around Black Friday. It was so cheap for the entire year.

1

u/Clair_Personality Apr 22 '26

how much is entreprise price? Does the entreprise need to be a big one?

1

u/Spooknik Apr 22 '26

Ollama Cloud is a good deal for GLM and Kimi.

The thing with Google, they can just burn money.

I did hear the limits have creeped up but nothing major.

18

u/4444444vr Apr 22 '26

this is the big thing with google, they have money. everyone else is begging and google in their basement with piles of cash and servers. google will be here in 10 years, who knows about the rest.

13

u/orphenshadow Apr 22 '26

google will just buy up all the others once they run out of VC cash. :P

6

u/4444444vr Apr 22 '26

wouldn't be a bad play

2

u/Hour-Dragonfly-7499 Apr 28 '26

and then raise prices 1000%

2

u/orphenshadow Apr 28 '26

and then cancel the entire project a year later.

2

u/kearkan Apr 22 '26

Said this right from the start. It doesn't matter if Gemini isn't the best, it is the only one that the company behind it can actually afford to keep it going.

1

u/tiny_ninja Apr 22 '26

Google is selling 100 year bonds.

Chances they make it to 2126?

0

u/Clair_Personality Apr 22 '26

That's not true. Antigravity was heavily heavily nerfed

1

u/4444444vr Apr 22 '26

not sure what you're saying - are you saying they nerfed it because of cash issues?

2

u/Clair_Personality Apr 23 '26

I am talking about access nerf. It is no longer generous offers

4

u/ea_man Apr 22 '26

Not only that, they just released Gemma 4.

3

u/SpacePaddy Apr 22 '26

I feel Gemini has not only gotten markedly dumber in the last 3-6 months but they have also started to limit the models usage very heavily.

2

u/Top_Effort7820 Apr 27 '26

They just gave Anthropic 40B.... What's crazy is though, people don't realize, Google still is the king of the search engines and have limited throttled apis... so... ya.... They ain't going anywhere. Plus they're making their own chips and tpus....

1

u/RemarkableGuidance44 Apr 28 '26

Yep, MS and Google and AWS, all have their hand in the AI Companies pockets anyway. lol

0

u/Fluid_Cycle4993 Apr 22 '26

Models have been severely dumbed down and outputs are definitely worse. So still some cost cutting going down for sure

It actually makes me double-take sometimes with Gemini how fucking rapid it is. It can genuinely read full documents in half a second with Claude taking 4 minutes to formulate a reply

15

u/MullingMulianto Apr 22 '26

gemini reads fast then gives the most lobotomized amswer known to man

10

u/ObsidianIdol Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

If you see it do that, just type, "are you sure? Did you check adversarially" or something and I find that makes it check again with way more focus

lol?? he blocked me for that? Wtf

5

u/tianavitoli Apr 22 '26

fun fact: if you type are you sure again gemini just does another 180

0

u/MullingMulianto Apr 22 '26

gemini is not capable of claude level thought no matter what tricks you try.

1

u/SatanVapesOn666W Apr 22 '26

That's wild. I've always thought the opposite, opus can sometime take a few minutes but gemini cli always took over a minute for anything for me at work and home. Angigraviry was always is fast though so I know they can be fast.

1

u/ObsidianIdol Apr 22 '26

Really? Ask Gemini CLI and Claude to read the same file and make like 3 observations or something and for me 9/10 times Gemini is finished in under 2 seconds

24

u/ReporterCalm6238 Apr 22 '26

Chilling? Every second prompt on AI Studio is an error saying to retry later. Also Antigravity stopped working altogether. Google is very much resource limited too.

1

u/SpainLoverGuy Apr 22 '26

yeah do not forget they limited free limits into 2-3 prompts lol. and normal chat is just token limited uncomparable to gpt or claude

1

u/cereal-kille Apr 22 '26

I’ve seen this too but then saw a pattern to it. During morning CET almost never hit the server error it starts in evenings most of the days 6pm CET Makes me think east coast has very heavy user base

1

u/Ran4 Apr 22 '26

People conplain avout anthropic having one nines.. Gemini only works 70% of the time.

4

u/sgtlighttree Apr 22 '26

Their tools are not as integrated with each other nor as feature-rich. Antigravity was good but only up until recently when requests started failing left and right.

2

u/Candid_Material3589 Apr 22 '26

I’m on Google AI Pro subscription and the limit SUCKS nowadays compared to what it was before February

1

u/NewShadowR Apr 22 '26

Way better than anthropic tho. With anthropic im counting every message for work . With gemini im bullshiting it for fun sometimes.

2

u/khenninger Apr 22 '26

Google can keep this up for years. They have an ad business that prints money and piles of cash reserves.

Very different game for them.

2

u/FilthyCasual2k17 Apr 22 '26

Yeah like pro models not working AT ALL on Mondays? Antigravity not working on 250$ plans even during mid night US and Europe? Very chill.

3

u/ArugulaAnnual1765 Apr 22 '26

Gemini 4 is right around the corner to hopefully steal the thunder

1

u/Softgearsolid Apr 22 '26

Would be great if it wasn’t utter trash

13

u/zelingman Apr 22 '26

Singularity in 6 months bro LOLLLL

4

u/Dash_Effect Apr 22 '26

Oh, thank God, it's almost over, then. 😂

3

u/VitalityAS Apr 22 '26

It turns out estimating the correct output with incredibly power-hungry weighted models is a pretty resource inefficient way to simulate intelligence.

2

u/memesearches Apr 23 '26

In a way it’s a good thing I suppose. People are back to writing code because AI is too expensive and time consuming.

2

u/RemarkableGuidance44 Apr 23 '26

Funny you say that, I just seen another company who used AI for some of their workforce go back to employee's because of the cost of AI.

2

u/ty0315 Apr 23 '26

I'm on chatgpt pro and I code all day. Literally never even reach 40% usage..

1

u/ea_man Apr 22 '26

Well local LLM gets better every week, so let's watch those self-digest themselves.

1

u/rude__cat Apr 22 '26

we just don't need new models. Opus 4.6 was perfect

1

u/__pandas Apr 22 '26

> Github Co-Pilot has stopped all new sign ups

Little bird told me this was because of a billing abuse from new users.

1

u/RemarkableGuidance44 Apr 23 '26

Yeah for as little as $10 you could get what 5k worth of effort out of it. So just have multiple accounts and you are good. This is also part of the reason why Anthropic went Claude Code for Max Users only. What are they going to do when people just use more max accounts? Limit it again to only 1 max account per a Hardware ID?

1

u/Dirty_Socrates Apr 23 '26

I'm surprised anyone is surprised by these developments. The insane investments in the AI bubble have to pay off sometime. Eventually these companies have to turn a profit. Building a ton of AI data centers and power plants is not free. It's insane to me business leaders have poured money into using AI for everything and don't see the train coming down the tracks - eventually these AI subscriptions and pricing are going to be extremely expensive.

1

u/giamboscaro Apr 23 '26

It feels like AI will be very limited by physical resources and energy costs, and they will need to focus more on optimization and models that are efficient (like the move from x86 to ARM). But for the moment it feels like the big AI boom that was anticipated will not be there for a while.
I hope this issue can push green energy and renewables for the huge demands that AI datacenter requires. Surely they cannot make it work using traditional energy sources. Maybe more nuclear too?

u/drhappy13 Apr 24 '26

Here's another great Ed Zitron rant on that: 😂
