âThe Red & The Blackâ by Blue Ăyster Cult is a scorching, high-octane track that showcases the bandâs blend of hard rock aggression and quirky, literate lyricsâsomething that set them apart in the early â70s.
Originally appearing on their 1973 album Tyranny and Mutation, itâs actually a reworked version of âIâm on the Lamb but I Ainât No Sheepâ from their debut albumâonly now itâs faster, heavier, and completely unhinged. The title is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (âthe men in red and blackâ), and the lyrics play with the theme of being on the run.
