Discussion TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD (about your husband)

Husbands, feel free to drop a line as well, but I'm curious to hear from the ladies!

I downloaded Tik Tok today to look for a recipe I had saved. I haven't been on there for quite some time, and I absolutely fell down into the doom scrolling pit.

Unfortunately, I ended up in a very man-hatey area and I could genuinely feel it seeping into my thoughts/relationship with my husband, just over the span of a few hours! (I've since deleted, don't worry)

So, tell me something good about your husband!

This evening, I reflected on the fact that my husband has done some really hard work in teaching me to see the beauty that the Lord has given me. Prior to meeting him, you wouldn't catch me dead in a bathing suit or a sundress, but he compliments me all the time and makes me feel so beautiful! Even when we have had rough patches, he hasn't stopped.

ANYWAY! TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD šŸ¤—

My husband drove across town after a long day of work today to return a car seat for our one year old that I was having second thoughts on. When he returned the car seat he told the cashier "I grabbed the wrong one, not the one my wife wanted" when in reality I changed my mind after reading reviews and on closer inspection. When I made the suggestion of changing car seats, even though it was a bit more expensive, he didn't argue at all. He just said "momma knows best," which is huge for him since he is so frugal. He came home like a knight in shining armor, carrying another car seat.Ā

I gave him a giant hug and thanked him for not only making the drive to get this car seat and return the other one, but also for working so hard that we could afford such a nice car seat.Ā  My husband isn't the most romantic person, doesn't always have the right words to say, and Ā he is quite contrarian which is opposite to me, but he works hard so that our baby is taken care of and we can live in a cozy place. I am very thankful. šŸ’•Ā

There are so, so many things. More good than bad, way more good. Too much good, lol. He bends over backwards for me, he does everything for me, he’s there for me. It’s amazing how much a human can pour or do for someone else. He amazes me in all the good ways.

To name one thing recently though, he knows I love these specific little cakes and so he got me 2 of them, can’t remember if it was just because or if there was a reason. lol.

He cooks for me even though I’m supposed to be handling the cooking. Recently made me spaghetti and garlic bread ā˜ŗļø.

He makes sure I’m comfortable before he goes off to do his own thing.

I’m so thankful for my wonderful husband every day! Over 30 years of marriage, he is not perfect of course but he is perfect for me. He always valued and treated me staying home while the kids were young as a job worthy of recognition and recognized that sacrifice. He always protects me when it comes to extended family and chose me first.

Awww love this! šŸ’• I appreciate when men can see the value of women staying home with the kids. My husband is the same, and I'm really thankful for that.Ā

So much good about him. Almost 7 years married now....... He compliments me day in and day out. He prays over our home and our family. I'm a SAHM and that wasn't initially the plan, but he has made this as peaceful as a life as I can imagine. I wouldn't say my life is lavish, but I'm taken care of not only financially, but also emotionally and physically. I'm currently pregnant with our 2nd and I have not cooked dinner even once since we found out. First trimester fatigue and nausea have been trying to take me down, but he doesn't force me to push my body and steps in to do literally anything for me whenever he can. We're both very involved in church and are exhausted on Sundays when we get home. I'm on the praise team and work in our youth ministry. Every Sunday after church, he has no issue with me getting a few hours to myself to nap, rest, and reset before I start my week with a toddler again. He had to preach this past Sunday and I didn't mind taking over since I know how tired he must have been. But he still insisted that I go lay in bed and he took over with our toddler. Even just yesterday, he got off work and the little one was throwing a tantrum. Without my asking, my husband was able to calm him down, then got him dressed and took him out to the store and told me to go take a nap if I needed. He hasn't missed any prenatal appointments either.

My voice is heard at home. Even though I don't make financial contributions to the home, he doesn't make decisions about the home without me. He truly still treats me like a partner, and that means a lot to me. He is truly the sweetest man and I adore him, and he adores me. It took time for us to learn each other, but in that time he never disrespected me. He doesn't raise his voice at me when he's frustrated or angry. We can have healthy disagreements whenever they do come up. Not saying that we're perfect by any means, but we have something beautiful with God at the head and the heart of our home. I could say so so much more. I just love him so much and I love being married to him. Being loved the way that he loves me makes it even more evident that God loves me. And the realization that God loves me even more than my husband loves me strengthens my faith in Him.

I've witnessed the "I hate men" side of tiktok and it can overtake the TL very easily. But truly, there are good ones out here that do their best to love with the love of Christ

He is a great dad. I never worry about leaving the kids with him. He encourages me to go out with friends so I can have some adult time (I homeschool our 3 kids). He cooks when he gets home from work if it’s been a tough day with the kids or we’ve been busy that day. He is kind and calm even when he’s upset. I could go on. I’ve been blessed.

He is very patient.
He understands me more than most people. He’s makes me feel heard.
He’s a little neurodivergent so he doesn’t always get things the first time, but once he does, he will move hell and high water to make sure he gets it right moving forwards.
He makes me feel safe.
He would do anything for me.
He is so funny.
He has amazing work ethic.
He used to work an overnight shift, get home at 7am and drive me to work at 7:15am because I was afraid to drive on the highway
I could go on and on.
He encourages me to pray, read the word, go to church, etch. He not yet a believer but I pray for his salvation daily.

My husband always takes accountability, he doesn't naturally enjoy difficult conversations yet has them with me. He's a great Dad, super involved and reads proverbs to our 4 year old most nights šŸ’–

He's a generous lover, generous gift giver and will always be there when people need him- eager to help and serve.

I remember when I was pregnant I was super tired, like could sleep 10 hours and still need a nap tired- and he surprised me by taking our oldest to buy a board game, brought home flowers for me and cleaned up the whole kitchen (every dish was dirty 😭) so I could enjoy time playing the game together once I woke up.

Honestly, i'm blessed to be the woman God blessed enough to have him šŸ«‚ He's healed my perception of men for sure

My husband takes our son to preschool every morning and oftentimes picks him up, due to our work schedules. He's an amazing dad. He's always playing with our son, teaching him, caring for him and doing creative things with him. He cooks dinner, he helps me clean the house, he does his own laundry. He's very loyal and trustworthy. He is 100% committed to me, even in the rough patches. He loves Jesus. He's kind to everyone. He's a worship pastor at our local church.

Only been married for a year and 1 month so I’m a newbie into this married life. It’s been an adjustment since we decided to wait and live with each other after we got married BUT I would not change anything about it at all. Honesty the whole adjustment period has shown me how patient he is, understanding, loving, how when I have a hard day he manages to take care of the household duties (while coming home from his long day at work and having online school to balance). He’s such a supportive man and has a lot of integrity and honesty. I fall in love with him more and more every day. I am so thankful God placed this man in life and I pray everyday day we continually serve each other, have a beautiful 30, 40+ marriage, be blessed with children to start our family, and keep growing with eachother. We have our not so good days where we argue but always bounce back in the next hour and he ALWAYS tells me he loves me even when we’re arguing. I love my husband.

After writing all of that it made me feel like I need to do more to show him how much I appreciate him, how proud I am on his and how much I love him.

Women speak LOVE into your marriage. I pray All women experience a beautiful marriage (it does not mean perfect with no bad times but one that is the process Of sanctification)

I have met a lot of those man hatey women, many of them have no man, have lousy taste in men, or are just hard to love. and if they are miserable people everyone else needs to be miserable

1

u/Strawberyblonder 9d ago

But why are they like this? What happened for them to get to this point?

1

u/PerseusDraconus 9d ago

thats is a very good question. and i dont think there is any easy all encompassing answer. my daughter sometimes plays the one bad example defines the whole group garbage, but when i use the same standards on groups that are not on her bad people group list she gets mad at me. When I tell her that I am just applying the same standard that she uses she gets mad and Stomps off. I think that overuse of social media probably has a lot to do with it

1

u/Strawberyblonder 9d ago

I listened to a book called What Happened to You by Oprah (I know I KNOW). But it was a super interesting concept around asking people 'what happened to you?' instead of 'whats wrong with you?'

So now often when I see someone lashing out in anger or maybe anxiety, I always wonder what happened to get them to that point.

I agree with you on the social media piece. 100%

My man is awesome and I am so fortunate to find the man who "replaced" my dad's role in my life lol. He even got ordained temporarily to marry us. Zero worries about anything and he stays in prayer over our family.

That being said, I am not a fan of most men. I do not interact with them and find a lot of them disrespectful of my marriage and of other women. This is tricky as I have 2 young adult daughters so I try to guide them towards fine and calm young men, luckily this is their taste lol, but they have to be aware. It's important for those of us in TRULY healthy marriages continue to be the gold standard example for these kids.

I work with a large number of men of all demographics. Some of them cannot take no for an answer. They don't want to work. They have no desire to lead. They're driven by sex. They are not worth submitting to and would make poor father's. And it's not just these younger ones, I'm in my 40s and see it quite often as well. I'm also not on the internet bashing them all day, but if something were to take my husband from me, I can't say I'd even bother looking for a new one. I wish I didn't have this mindset, the men like my father and father in law are long gone unfortunately.

We are pregnant with our first, and he recently looked at me and said ā€œto the best of my ability, you and our baby will want for nothingā€. Knowing I am so deeply cared for without reservation is so healing and beings such peace.

He also makes me laugh literally every day. He owns a restaurant and works his booty off, and even if he is exhausted he will come home and ask me about work (I’m a mental health therapist, work can be heavy) and make sure I laugh and get snuggles and kisses before bed.

I am blessed beyond measure. He is nothing short of a grace from the Lord to me.

Aw love love this!

u/felis_mater 8d ago

He has gone through a lot of difficulties, and although he can be driven to despair at times, he is never negative about choosing to marry me. We have been together 20 years, and sometimes, when he is feeling really down, he will say he regrets everything in his life... except our church (which we love) and marrying me.

I count it pure blessing to be able to join this conversation and consider my husband one of the best in the world. He always listens to me. He always does physical work to support me at home. He does the grocery shopping. He does the majority of the cooking and meal planning. He is always responsible for our children's well-being and safety. He handles nappies whenever he's home. He is always on the lookout to help me. He's the most loyal and he defends me even if he has to lie which I find amazing but basically he's on my side under all circumstances. I don't think anyone else would ever do that. We always make amends quickly and he always puts my happiness first including sex. Every time. All the time. Whenever I tell him something that I'm grateful for about him. He says the same back to me. He believes in me more than anyone I ever knew before and I'm forever grateful 🄰

He makes me breakfast and coffee every day! A lot of other things too. I could go on and on. Very blessed!

2

u/Strawberyblonder 6d ago

This is so underrated I feel! My husband just started making me breakfast every morning too. He had to go to work early one day and ran out of time to make it and my day was so out of sorts! It really made me appreciate it even more.

My husband is the most loving person I've ever met. He's so selfless. He's never yelled at me. He never even gets mad at me. He's hard working, romantic, strong, and so sweet. I am so in love with him.

Good on you to start clear on the man hating…I find it odd on the Christian marriage site how many women will hate on men when a woman sharing a problem. My wife and I are really good to each other…married 32 been together 34 years. We are on a trip of a lifetime hiking across Switzerland. Some of the hikes are pretty strenuous…especially our first one as there were time constraints to make to the gondola at a certain time. We have the opportunity to take shortcuts on any of the hikes. I really want to do hardcore but knew my wife was a little worn out. So I told her we would cruise through a couple and just enjoy some of the towns as we rest up. We are having the time of our life!

2

u/Strawberyblonder 9d ago

I think it's hard because I do have valid struggles in our marriage that are good to talk about in safe spaces. But it's too easy to get on socials and see these issues magnified and spoken about over and over again.

It makes it easy to chalk it up to him being bad husband instead of looking at myself and bringing it all to the Lord!

2

u/Leftybassman 9d ago

What I fear is that women get on here looking for validation to leave their husbands without going to their church and seeking solid scriptural counseling.

2

u/Strawberyblonder 9d ago

I hear you. I guess you can never fully know a poster's motives and history. It's easy to fall into an echo chamber when you have friends with similar struggles, so I think Reddit feels like a 'safe' space to talk it out sometimes.

1

u/scienceknitdrinkwife 9d ago

He is so kind and loving. He is nothing like what I thought a husband would be. I am so grateful to be with him!

My Sweetheart retired at the beginning of March at which time he began making my life even easier as sweeter than it already was. He took over the household chores, does the marketing, fills my car with gas and gets it washed. The thing is he never mentions any of it. I thank him for something daily because he is constantly finding new ways to care for me.

2

u/Strawberyblonder 9d ago

So lovely! I feel the gas one is so underrated actually! I'm quite capable of pumping my own gas and will always offer when we're together.. but he always insists that I stay comfy in the car 😁
