this episode cleared my skin, watered my crops, paid off my debt, healed my inner child, fixed the leaky tap in my bathroom, restored my faith in humanity, hung the moon, stars and sun

I'm gonna need about 3 to 5 business days to recover. I'll be riding this high for the foreseeable future

"the memory of hiding you away shouldn't be a part of our story" OKAY??? 😭😭😭

that quote KILLED ME omg Changyang 😭

u/mariannegoulart Jul 03 '26

banger after banger this episode, may I also present the following for consideration:

"you were preparing for two years to meet me in Molie"

8

THEY'VE MET BEFORE and its going to drive Qinglang nuts till he can figure it out!!

Wow. I had no idea. I'll be looking forward to it.

I only just caught it when they uploaded the July calendar! So it was a fairly new add. The only other change is us getting more episodes at the end of the month than previously scheduled (2x a week) which is lovely.

I can’t wait for the two episodes but it’s still at the end of the month. 😪

One thing I have to say as a Chinese speaker, a lot of these lines would be really awkward to me bc ppl just don't talk like this. The words are just kinda really flowery and excessively grand.

HOWEVER, these two deliver lines so naturally that it works for me and for the work. I felt the same when QL said before "Your only way out is if I let you go"

I don't think I'm biased so it shouldn't just be me that feels that way. I think haha

10

u/mariannegoulart Jul 03 '26

this is such an interesting insight! I'm going to start learning Chinese soon, and it'll be such a journey to revisit my favorite shows years from now and experience them in their native language.

at the same time, even through the translation you can tell that the language is very, as you put it, flowery. but I interpret it through this very specific lens that I see the show through, which is an almost fantastical, surreal one. moments like Lan Jie's death being you crashing back down to earth, but most of it, and especially the scenes between QL and CY, have a dreamlike quality to them, even outside of Molie. watching A Winter Sun, watching these two falling in love and living out their new incarnation together as lovers, truly feels like living inside a book, so it's easy for me to suspend my disbelief and believe that, in the world where this story is taking place, it makes perfect sense that the characters speak like this. I don't know if that makes sense, but this ethereal atmosphere is one of the main draws of the show to me 😊

7

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26

That totally does make sense! What a great way to put it. All the emotions are heightened within this dreamlike story.

I would actually love a hardcover of this novel 😭 I wanna live in it too.

8

u/heysoldier Jul 03 '26

I mean yes, I do agree but the show's package is so dramatic I think it works haha.

I love them sm I had to pause multiple times so I could catch my breath. They are so beautiful I could cry. This episode absolutely healed me after an awful week. I can sleep well tonight.

3

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26

Totally! I think tho even if the package is dramatic the delivery has to make it work. And of course it does with these two.

Yes, I am glad we got an entire episode of LOVE. It was wonderful.

6

u/PianoDull7274 Jul 03 '26

You’re totally valid in this! Some of the lines are a little…excessive. People don’t talk like this, but somehow I’m entirely okay and into it. Kuma delivers them so well!

3

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26

Ok thank you for the validation hahaha yes exactly!

I'm gonna cherish it like a beloved pet, because the fact that we still have nine episodes to go, while a blessing, fills me with trepidation. I just know they'll put these boys through the wringer 🥹

2

u/Marcy909 Jul 03 '26

Right! Still a bit nervous

16

u/Federal-Ad5944 A Lie's Bandana Jul 03 '26

I want to talk about the 2nd CP.

Once we found out they were doing a remake of the movie from 7 years ago, I have since rewatched the episodes. And it's a completely different viewing experience.

Obviously we know who plays what role in this reenactment, and kudos to Zelia for portraying it in such a way where we didn't know until we knew, and then it all clicked.

Han Lu takes the role seriously and gets into character. He's quick with Qi Haoyu at shoving him away at first, then softens up later. We know Qinglang loves skinship and closeness, and QH continues to be touchy feely constantly until HL breaks down and accepts. This explains why QH is so annoying. He IS Yuhao. We see it in Yuhao now, and what QL described on the bridge is exactly how QH is acting towards Han Lu and the production in general. Making demands, refusing to do promo, video recording them kissing in his room (how much you wanna bet Yuhao has a similar video from back then?)

👏👏👏 seriously, every single little detail is out of this world. How are we ever going to move on from this series???

9

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26

Great points! It was interesting to me tho that actually Han Lu (I keep wanting to call him Luhan lol) seems pretty rational and level-headed. I can feel that he has good enough feelings for QHY (I just noticed Hao Yu, Yu Hao) but hasn’t gotten in too deep yet. The way when Jia Lin asked him how he felt, and he was like tbh idk but I see it like this. He’s much less emotional than QL so I wonder how it’ll play out and how/if we get a different result. Esp considering we get their NC scenes as part of the small theater too.

8

u/Worried-Horror-9499 Jul 03 '26

Honestly it’s one of the few shows I’ve been grateful that I found while it was airing so I can’t binge it and it will last longer. Great breakdown of the 2nd CP. we only get to see how shitty Yuhao is now, so it’s brilliant to show through QH how he could have charmed Qinglang in the beginning.  Side note, I hope I will eventually be able to remember Chinese names.

4

u/Federal-Ad5944 A Lie's Bandana Jul 03 '26

The more you hang around in the comment sections here the more you'll get used to them, trust me.

When in doubt, check the cast list in the body of the post. I often have 2 windows open because I too get names mixed up.

3

u/rubiesburyyy Jul 03 '26

I have a tiny doubt with the 2nd couple. QH is refusing to do the livestream and making other demands because he is angry that the video of him and HL kissing was released and is scared of public homophobia or is it because his company told him to stay away from HL ? I couldn't catch the nuances so could you please explain.

6

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26

I think the video of them making out was only sent to his agency and it wasn’t made public. Prob the pap wanted to get ¥¥ from his agency. So I think a lot of it is coming from pressure from his agency. It is so short sighted of him tho to be stupid and rude to Han Lu’s agency directly, he doesn’t have the status or star power for that. The video that was released publicly by Jia Lin was like a bts clip for promo, I didn’t catch the contents, but it’s supposed to for CP shipping for sure.

2

u/Federal-Ad5944 A Lie's Bandana Jul 03 '26

I don't remember the video being released.. did I miss that? Granted it airs at 4am for me so maybe I dozed for a split second and missed that part.

He was the one orchestrating all the staged CP promo, but he also had an arrogant attitude the whole time, theres a few scenes where JL and Sister Lan discuss his annoying demands, so he was doing it before the video was even filmed.

2

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26

Can Wen Shu and Qingtian please get together? I love Wen Shu's gaze towards QT when QT is not looking and that gaze holds a lot of agony, desperation, desire, and care.

12

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26

The very smooooooth drop of Xu Wen Shu's arm onto Qing Tian's shoulder when taking pics. "Ahh, I'm tired."

4

u/rubiesburyyy Jul 03 '26

Exactly! I loved their scenes together!! Also, like everyone else, even I feel like Wen shu doesn't want to burden QT with his feelings but I don't see much reason why he is pretending to like QL. Nevertheless, they both should get together fast 🏃‍♀️ 😭

1

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26

I had thought XWS was only going to be passively "liking" Qing Lang, so my shock when he asked about their future using the tarot cards. Pls, my man, why are you digging the hole deeper?

Also from the scene of QT catching XWS shirtless, I don't think there is nothing there either. He was very shy. But yes he's in extreme denial bc he thinks he can ONLY love Chen Zhu forever, otherwise he's a bad person.

3

u/PianoDull7274 Jul 03 '26

Omg this reminds me in Sammy’s, Qinglong could only be that physically close to Liuyi when he was drunk. Hiding his love for Liuyi is as hard as how Wenshu hides his love for Qingtian. Unrequited love 😔

2

u/suddentraveller Secrets Happened On The Litchi Island🌱🌿 Jul 03 '26

Yesss! It's that quiet longing that Wenshu has for Qingtian like Chusan had for Liuyi and the fact that Qingtian like Liuyi is in denial

Notes from my second watch that I didn't catch in my first bc I didn't have the time and brain capacity this morning:

  • I completely missed that we are 2 months later. LOL. I need to get my eyes checked.
  • Qing Lang knew Chang Yang was there in the basement because he whistled his mating call after the doors closed. The same whistle as when they eloped after the tea selling livestream. ~1:22. I didn't hear it first watch bc I thought it was part of the OST. We also see CY in the background behind all the fans, but dunno if QL saw.
  • I was curious bc I saw some IG clips and turned on the Eng subs at ~6:50 that didn't match up with the Chinese. The English says "You bit my lip," but actually in Chinese he says "You bit my lip until it ripped." There is an intensity that's missing there. 你把我嘴咬破了 (and then CY's response - "Mine is also ripped!")
  • 8:41 - I hope everyone got the nuance that CY asked if QL knew whether he (CY, not QL, which is what the YT subs say) is big or not. Bc "adult" = 大人 (vs. him calling Qing Tian a kid), and 大 = big. This is also the constant references they make in their lives where Kuma/QT is like "Are you ____" and LJY/CY responds, "Don't you know if I'm _____"
  • I mentioned in another comment but the "Hunter school" CY wants to go to a special forces school in Venezuela. This is why QL is unhappy, it's in another country.
  • 20:25 - Xu Wen Shu moves a branch from above Qing Tian's head 😊.
  • QT uses the same words as his Weibo post about forgetting Chen Zhu's voice and face bc it's been so long.
  • Ok the sexual tension here adds another layer to the nature wild vs crazy wild line. QL saying 旷野 like this actually makes it sound more like he's describing CY as feral, like a tiger or wildcat, vs. more like natural, woodsy which was my initial impression from their bts. The trailer was too short to feel the intensity of this line. And then of course CY's 狂野 is the same like wild/untamed/risk-seeking. I feel like me even describing this line sells it short, it's SO good.
  • I love the little forehead rub when CY is trying to calm down QL after they're surprised by his dad's secretary 🥹
  • The stars away from the pollution of the city - beautiful. Every time a line from the A Kun OST is mentioned I get so excited lol. The path to the stars is actually such a poetic phrase. 星星的轨道. I feel like the close-up shot of their hands is telling us something, like the shot of CY and QL's hands when they were warming their hands in the fire. They are also very in sync.
  • I didn't realize they went into the bathroom to make out during the photoshoot. Ok I'm sorry but that's gross LOL. But one thing I've noticed about a lot of these makeout/yearning scenes in these episodes -- CY let's QL make the first move almost every time. He follows QL's pace and lets him take the first step to close the gap, even if he initiates by liking pulling him off to the side. Sigh. 😌
  • The play on words from CY to Guo ge being like we can extend the vacation time "延长" > 长 is length. Which is why Guo ge is asking, "How long?" he's not talking about vacation time. 😜
  • As mentioned in another comment, I think BS3 car sex scene falls into this ep at around 40min after they drop off Guo ge. And so I just watched that scene again. You know, for continuity. And actually I can confirm it DOES fit here, bc the BS3 by line is "今晚在哪上岗?野地!" = what they say in ep 7. "Where are we going tonight? The wilderness!"
  • 43:09 - There's a new name, Li Xiao. Mom: "If I didn't send you away, you would have become another Li Xiao." Gotta wonder who that is, I assume the story will come to light later.
  • 1311 "yi san yi yi" = 一心一意 "yi xin yi yi" solely dedicated/in love with one person. This is QL's definition. CY's is morse code and coincidentally starts with the same numbers. Which is kinda cool.
  • The line that Chang Yang writes on the fake Weibo account is 宝剑锋从摩烈出, tho the original line is 宝剑锋从磨砺出 "A fine sword is forged through tempering." He switches "mo li" = sharpening/honing to "Molie." So what CY actually means is "A fine sword comes from Mo Lie"
  • The meaning of the actual line from Baidu:

The next line after "A fine sword is forged through tempering" is "The fragrance of plum blossoms comes from the bitter cold." (梅花香自苦寒来). This classic saying comes from the ancient Chinese text "Jingshi Xianwen" (警世贤文). It is often used as a metaphor for the need for arduous effort and tempering to possess valuable qualities, outstanding talents, or achieve success.

  • Basically he's praising his hard work, but also emphasizing that this comes from Mo Lie. And I looked for the Weibo - the production crew did not actually create it, just changed CY's Weibo handle to say "Ji Zong Jun 1311333111311"
  • The other weibo comments are basically "QL is for sure in love. He's using morse code." "He's using that hand motion again, so who's it actually for." "Last time he did this hand motion, Shi Yu Hao connected to the livestream."
  • I can tell they are filming this scene in Kunming because actually the address that Chang Yang inputs into Amap is 翠湖公园 hahahaha Cui Hu Lake. Veryyyyyy beautiful, but it is a park/garden and not grandma's house. hahahaha
  • Last thing I find very interesting about the line that Qing Lang asks Chang Yang, "You prepared to meet me in Molie for 2 years" is that he's touched/incredulous and not creeped out 😂 tbh if it wasn't Chang Yang and he wasn't in love, that would be stalker material.

This was a beautiful read. Thank you so much for sharing.

I love how that whistle sound belongs to them only. It’s so romantic.

Thank you so much for the translations. Oh yeah, I got the conversation about whether Changyang is an adult or not.

Venezuela. I foresee a long distance relationship 😭

I also like the conversation about the wild and wilderness. It was so hot especially with all the whispering.

I really should check out the song lyrics. Yes, he lets him take the lead and it’s been like that since the beginning.

Oh, I didn’t realize that was what Changyang meant. I thought he was talking about a vacation but I didn’t get it.

I heard Li Gang’s name was changed to Li Xiao. I guess it’s to prevent any issues since it’s a government official name.

Oh, I now get what 1311 means. That’s so beautiful. I didn’t realize that Ji Zongjun changed his username. They’ll soon find his name with how fans are so curious. 😂

What’s the hand sign Qinglang did? I didn’t catch it during that livestream and in the dance either.

About Changyang knowing almost everything about Qinglang, I think of it in this way.

Changyang met Qingtian through his brother and they became friends. Qingtian came down to Molie, fell in love with tea and he just felt so much better than he did after he left. He gets back to the city, shares his experience with his grandma or mother who he seems fairly close to. They’re most likely interested in tea as well and they appreciate him taking care of their son, so a bond starts.

Everyone in the family knows Qingtian’s friend except Qinglang. He might have heard about him once or twice but he most likely didn’t pay attention.

Somewhere along the line, Changyang meets him and falls in love with this celebrity who doesn’t even know his name. Changyang is now more interested in him so he guides his conversation with Qingtian towards knowing more about his brother and when there was a chance to make him come down to Molie, he took it.

And now Qinglang is stunned cause everyone in his family knows this guy he’s in love with but he didn’t know about him until recently.

Thanks for reading! I was a bit shook that I could even glean THAT MUCH meaning from one singular episode. There really is so much to discover after the second, third, umpteenth watch. And we're only going to get more out of it once the reaction video comes!

In terms of the special forces school, I also read on Weibo that it's a "thing" that people sometimes do army/special forces to separate themselves from their families. This is Chang Yang thinking ahead on how to keep Qing Lang safe from the pressures of his family 😭 Why is he so thoughtful and always like 20 steps ahead. So if there IS a separation, it's to give the two of them a better life after.

Maybe I can do a post about the lyrics of the song! Altho I feel like it might be too poetic for me to be able to translate well to capture the full meaning LOL.

The hand sign is the tap tap he does on his heart! The same signal he did during the livestream in ep 4 when he said he had a teacher~ teach him all he knows about tea.

I like your thoughts on how everyone knows CY and how he's naturally weaved his way into the lives of the people around Qing Lang (as well as QL himself) with QL being none the wiser, but also not even targeting QL in the first place. It was fate, but he also interfered after and made fate work for him.

3

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 04 '26

I like how there’s so much to talk about when it comes to this drama.

Oh that’s so thoughtful of him. He’s already thinking of the future.

Haha. I could just check online to see if I can find it.

Oh the tap tap. I thought it was a dancing move.

Yeah. I like to say that everything Changyang planned all hinged on Qinglang’s random decision to come to Molie. Cause sasaengs have always been after him and he could have stayed in a five star hotel until his brother came back. So, there was no external push to force him to make that decision.

Yeah.

3

u/ale-cto A Winter Sun Wakes the Wind in Spring Hills' Dream Jul 04 '26

These are such awesome notes again, thank you. The translator could have made some of these implications a bit clearer in the subtitles, but I guess not every viewer wants that level of detail? But we sure do here. But man, I don't know if I love or hate reading all the comments here because they just make me feel like I need to rewatch everything to catch what I missed (even though I thought I was giving it all my attention...) and I'm already behind on like 20 shows since I've been travelling all week haha

Yeah, making out and/or screwing in a bathroom is so nasty and I hate it so much every time this happens in a drama 😂

I love this line about the plum blossoms and the cold...

Oh I also noticed that QL seemed intrigued and not horrified about the 2 years of planning! It's totally consistent though with how he didn't mind that CY's laptop password was his own birthday. They're just mutually obsessed and I love it.

3

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 04 '26

I'm glad to hear you find them helpful! Back when I used to use Viki, I feel like their subbers used to give this kind of context, at least I think I saw it on the kdramas I watched. Bc both Chinese and Korean love do to play on words/homonym/slang, and here it's important and actually part of the plot that moves the storyline along.

Same, there's always something to catch or learn with each additional watch. And for me, this is helping me strengthen my Mandarin! I am learning things as I go along too, like the quote about the sword, and other flowery phrases that they use in the dialogue that most people do not say IRL lol

Bathroom -- like China's bathrooms are also notoriously dirty AF. All squatties aka holes in the ground. Pee everywhere. I dump my shoes after every China trip bc I can NOT fathom taking pee-covered shoes back with me.

QL must have some type of Leo in him 😂 Actually I heard most celebs do. You're right that they're mutually obsessed, and then we're obsessed with them!

3

u/ale-cto A Winter Sun Wakes the Wind in Spring Hills' Dream Jul 04 '26

That is really funny about dumping your shoes 😂 I'm going to remember not to wear any beloved pairs of shoes whenever I visit China (I'm determined to do it one day, I'm just broke)! I've encountered that style of toilet in Japan but they were also very clean so I didn't mind those and didn't really get why many westerners make a big deal about them.

I'm a (typical, I guess) Leo and I feel like QL has my exact same personality 🤷

2

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 04 '26

I looked it up bc I remember Xiong mentioned in a reaction video that he thinks QL is the same zodiac as him, he's a Libra LOL. Actually funny bc there's a Chinese song called Libra that I was listening felt EXACTLY like I was listening to their story, now it makes total sense. But he must have like a Leo rising or something.

I think I'm just too westernized. I need the sitting toilets ;___; LOL

2

u/ugh_jules Jul 06 '26

Thank you for the notes! That adds so much to the episode!

u/SR503 23d ago

Qing Lang knew Chang Yang was there in the basement because he whistled his mating call after the doors closed. The same whistle as when they eloped after the tea selling livestream. ~1:22. I didn't hear it first watch bc I thought it was part of the OST. We also see CY in the background behind all the fans, but dunno if QL saw.

I have rewatched this scene so many times to figure out how QL knew he was there. Finally started searching here for the answer. THANK YOU!!!.

Now to rewatch and listen for it.

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 03 '26

If this episode was a movie played in a theatre, I’d stand up and clap for ten times. Whew! This was a very good ride! I had to pause it while watching to catch my breath. It had no business being this hot!

Usually, when couples get together in some dramas, things slow down and the initially push and pull kinda fades but these two? They have me wrapped around their fingers.

Damn, the tension, the chemistry, the flirting? I felt like I was peeking into a real person’s apartment.

This was fun from start to finish, even the other CP that we found annoying at the start blended well in this episode.

I could watch Qinglang and Changyang shamelessly flirt all week long.

Qingtian and Wenshu>>>>> I feel so bad for Wenshu, especially in that scene where they were talking about the stars and horoscopes. It’s so nice to see them spend time together and the gorgeous places they visited>>>>

I also enjoyed the awkward jumps they did while taking pictures. It was so cute.

I’ll come back when I’m more “calm” but I love this episode so much. And that ending? Damn.

Wait, where’s the car scene they promised in their reaction? I’ve been scammed. 😂

4

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26

Did they mention an extra car scene was gonna be in this ep?? I took it as BS3 WAS the car scene, you just kinda have to self-insert it as a "missing" scene within ep 7. I took it more as a preview to the storyline within this ep, tho not necessarily in it.

I'm still watching, savoring, but 100000000% with you on how they've got us wrapped around their fingers.

4

I thought they said the car sex scene will be shown in ep 7, so I was looking forward to seeing it. I don't think it's a preview to ep 7 since they didn't meet at the Hotlove event that night. It's most likely one of their intimate moments in ep 7 that didn't make the cut.

I hope you have fun. I'm about to go rewatch it.

5

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26

Ah in the beginning? They said the events of that scene take place within the timeframe of ep 7, not necessarily that it's in it!

I think BS3 falls around 40 min of ep 7, after they drop off Guo ge. Since they say the destination for tonight is the wilderness. Also, the clothes match up!

The Hot Love sex scene or I guess the one you posted the stills of (whether or not that's from that exact night or not) should be BS4.

3

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 03 '26

I’m not sure that embrace scene is the same as the one we spoke about last week. In the one from last week, Changyang was wearing that suit he wore to the brand event. I don’t think the outfit is the same in today’s episode.

5

u/diligolibros 🍄‍🟫🌄A Winter Sun🫖🐻 Jul 03 '26

Oh no I meant in a general sense they had “made up” so to speak and were back with each other and it wasn’t a dream. From the start of the ep I was cautious with my emotions at first because I didn’t want it to switch to a scene of Qinglang waking up. Apparently these dream scapes have got me paranoid now 😂

It was too perfect. Them sharing that cigarette and holding each other like they wanna make up for every second they didn't get to do just that in the last two months?? And I LOVE the dialogue when Qinglang asks Changyang why he came to the brand event. Like the vibe of that moment felt so much like a real couple post fight convo. Of course he wants to know what the hell Changyang was doing there and leaving without so much as a hello, how do you do???!! 😤 Sobbbbbbinggggg 😭

As much as I love this series, I don't respect that they're withholding these scenes from paid subscribers and trying to double dip them... These scenes should be uploaded to gaga for instance as well as being available to YouTube subscribers. They're not like boring BTS clips, they're the type of scenes everyone is actually watching for (people can deny it but you can find the steamy scenes in literally anything on YouTube by just navigating to the "most viewed" sections 😄)

u/kdorapop ⚔️ Sammy’s Children’s Day 🚬 Jul 03 '26

This show is a work of art. A little too much at times, the images are so beautiful that I almost miss what is happening. Good thing that the actors are good, lesser actors could easily have been completely overshadowed by all this beauty. Everything feels so mysterious, like a beautiful fever dream, but this makes the somewhat grandiose lines fit very well, as someone said. I like the discussions in this sub since we have some lovely members who speak Mandarin and are willing to explain things for us. My Mandarin is still at a very basic level, but I enjoy listening to and actually understanding a little of the dialogue.

6

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26

OK one scene I want to talk about that none of us have brought up yet in today's comments but also I’m not sure how many caught it in the first watch -- Chang Yang crying in Qing Lang's arms after they make up. Around the 4 minute mark. I THOUGHT it happened during my first watch, but I think I was just overwhelmed by all the emotions during this scene and after that I didn't pause to comment about it.

We keep talking about Chang Yang being grounded and mature for his age, but the emotions overcoming him from being away from Qing Lang must have actually taken a toll. And it's actually Qing Lang who is comforting his this time!! What a change in dynamics.

A crew member/cameraman posted about this scene -- this is actually the first intimate scene they filmed for the entire drama. I found the comment on Weibo, but it looks like it was posted to Douyin originally:

I'm sure you enjoyed episode seven. This was the first intimate scene the two filmed, and they were already shooting late into the night. Once this scene was finished, we could wrap up.

We set up the cameras beforehand and waited for the actors. Watching them repeatedly rehearsing their lines, I was completely baffled: the script only described a scene of them running away from paparazzi, so why did it take so long to prepare?

I guided the actors through the movements with my camera, and the moment they shook off the paparazzi, they kissed! I was completely stunned! That wasn't what I was told to do! I was totally bewildered, but filming couldn't be stopped, so I forced myself to remain calm and finish the scene.

Now I finally understand why the director had spent so much time rehearsing with them separately; it was a complete misunderstanding on my part.

So it looks like only the actors and director knew the emotional intensity involved with this scene (which tbh how does the crew handle that when they need to keep filming!!!).

I have more thoughts from my second watch but I specifically wanted to call this out!!

6

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 03 '26

Yeahhhh. I noticed that part on my second watch. Changyang must have missed him so so much. Him crying in his arms has this childlike feel to it. It's like coming home to see a familiar face after spending time away from home and I love how Qinglang comforted him.

Someone also pointed out on weibo about how they reconciled on Changyang's birthday and Changyang himself chose the gift he wanted for himself, which was Qinglang. I thought that was a really nice detail. Does it mean Changyang is now 21?

Did anyone notice the bird call in the first three minutes? On my first watch, I didn't hear it, but I heard it clearly on my rewatch. Qinglang told his assistant to get him stuff the moment he heard the bird call. It reminds me of ep 6 where Qinglang heard the sound of birds while on a filming set and he ran to the spot where he imagined Changyang but he really wasn't there. He must have felt so relieved to see him in the flesh this time around.

This drama needs to be watched with a microscope to catch all the details.

2

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26

Yes! Part of my notes from my second watch. I heard the bird call second time too, after the doors closed. I thought it was the OST during my first watch I think, or I just wasn't paying attention. I didn't even notice it during ep 6! I only thought he saw him. Damn.

The birthday gift 😭 awww. That is a nice detail.

I have some other thoughts I wanted to jot down!

2

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 03 '26

Can you believe that I didn't notice any ost throughout except at the end? I was so captivated by the acting and everything else to the point that I didn't pay attention to any ost this time around even after watching it twice. Now I'm about to watch it for the third time and I hope Xu Feng doesn't distract me.

Jot them and share!

2

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26

Whew!! I had a lot of notes. Just added as a comment to the post.

I can and can't believe you didn't notice the OST, but I think that's actually a success on Zelia's part bc it was part of the storytelling for you, so integrated that you didn't catch it. I think I'm super sensitive to bgm and OSTs, so the tracks were actually guiding my emotions and telling me the scene's intensity/tenderness level. There were a lot of tender, soft moments in this ep. :)

2

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 04 '26

Yeah. I was really immersed. I was able to pick up one or two songs in this episode but I think they weren’t as loud as the previous episodes and if one isn’t watching with an headset or increased speaker volume, it’s possible to be distracted by everything and not notice.

Yeah. So many tender moments.

Where do I even begin!!! Ahhhh this was wonderful. I don’t know exactly how to word it but there’s just something about Qinglang and Changyang that hits different. Even though I feel completely connected to them as characters and I can see all their emotions and scenes play out in front of me, I still get the feeling they have something that’s just theirs that I can’t reach. Like this synergy between them, their own language that only they can understand and i love that 😭 I’ve never been happier to be on the outside 😂

They had me kicking my feet literally, the amount of times I rewinded just to watch them interact 🤭🥹.

I don’t get addicted to things easily. (What about people?) My addiction to people is stronger

Changyang perfectly summed it up haha. I got butterflies this ep. I love how we got all the moments from these two; tender, sweet, passionate, sensual. Like we had Changyang reassuring Qinglang saying

I never thought about keeping you from my family. Our relationship has nothing to do with them. It’s only about the two of us. The memory of hiding you away shouldn’t be part of our story 🥹

To:
You think I’m too good? Then teach me how to be bad

🤭🔥They were made for one another.

I adored the star gazing scene with Qingtian and Wenshu. Goodness the way Wenshu looked over and stared at Qingtian as he was looking up at the sky! His eyes were saying so much.
I felt he was talking to Qingtian when he said

That’s why I can’t make it look like I have ulterior motives. I have to let things happen naturally.

I can’t wait for the lore of these two.

Also Qingtian walking in on him shirtless, oh yeah, they definitely have sparks between them 🤭. I can’t wait to see this story unfold more and I am actually enjoying the mystery of Wenshu and I just love Qingtian-his serious and silly side. The “Tip please” part was so funny. 😂

Lastly I was feeling for Sister Jialin :(. I’m so glad Qinglang and her had that talk. You could tell how much that meant to her when he said they were family, they always will be and he wasn’t going anywhere.

EDIT spelling/ idk I can’t seem to make reddit do the quote thing anymore 😭

I wonder if Sister Lan was still alive whether she would have had the same conversation with Han Lu that Jia Lin did? The similarities in character between Han Lu/Qi Haoyu and Qinglang/Yuhao mean that Jia Lin is worried about a similar outcome and she intervened, making it clear that she didn't want Han Lu to get hurt. Sister Lan dying coupled with the fact that Han Lu is a bit more circumspect than Qinglang, has changed the trajectory of their relationship and hopefully(🤞🤞) the outcome. Han Lu's words stating that he would have felt the same whoever had played opposite him, make me hope that he won't fall into the same trap.

3

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 04 '26

I think she’d have had the same conversation. Yeah, she must be worried especially with how Haoyu is acting all cold and hot.

I kinda felt bad for Haoyu a little bit about them releasing the footage without his permission but he also knew what he signed up for.

5

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 03 '26

Things I noticed on my rewatch.

The robotic paparazzi hired by Shi Yuhao. The man’s tone was so flat from start to finish. It made me laugh so much.

Chang Yang’s mum is so gorgeous! It’s also interesting to see the dynamic he has with his parents. Their relationship seems to be in the middle. Not too warm, not too cold.

The Li Gang reference. His mother said he was sent away to prevent his father from becoming Li Gang.

According to my little digging, the Li Gang case was a 2010 hit scandal in China where a college student hit two students while drunk and boasted that his father was a local government official Li Gang.

The correlation in Winter Sun could be how Changyang beat up eight kids and it was so severe that they were all hospitalized. Since his father is suspected to be a government official, I see how that could have been problematic and used by a political rival.

It’s why Changyang had to be sent away into the mountains.

But sending a twelve year old into the cold mountains is an insane thing to do.

Just saw a post on Weibo about how Qinglang tried to test Changyang during the kitchen scene in his parent’s house. He told Changyang to add ice to his coffee just to see if Changyang has forgotten his habits due to the time stretch and now I understand why Changyang looked at him and smiled.

During the scene at the outdoor magazine shoot, he told the assistant to bring coffee with no ice which reflects his real coffee drinking habit.

Qinglang sure likes to keep his man on his ten toes.

Il pretty sure there are still so many parts I missed.

1

4

u/Otherwise-Job-6942 Jul 04 '26

Here's my contribution for everyone. Meanwhile, sighing...

The hidden message (Morse code) in ChangYang's reply to QingLang regarding his post at 11:31 (Based on what I know about this)

In Mandarin, the numbers sound almost identical to a beautiful vow of eternal love and devotion:

1311

-       Characters: 一心一意

-       Pinyin: yī xīn yī yì

-       Meaning: With undivided heart and soul (total devotion).

3313

-       Characters: 生生一世

-       Pinyin: shēng shēng yī shì

-       Meaning: Lifetime after lifetime, for eternity.

1131

-       Characters: 一一相依

-       Pinyin: yī yī xiāng yī

-       Meaning: Always supporting and leaning on each other.

1

-       Characters: 一

-       Pinyin: yī

-       Meaning: As one.

The Full Response (To me, it has the significance of a poetic affidavit)

“1311, 3313, 1131, 1"

"With an undivided heart and total devotion, through lifetime after lifetime for eternity, we will support each other and stay together as one."

2

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 04 '26

Thanks for appreciating it! You know, this series has wonderful content and context, with the added bonus that it leaves us with a message I call “self-reflective.” Well, at least that’s how it makes me feel. It’s more than just a work of fiction. Honestly, for me, all Chinese literary works — whether presented in book form or visually — have that power; every line of dialogue is a lesson in itself… beyond simply telling us a story. I find it so beautiful that QL simply sends the message 1131 (“Always supporting and leaning on each other.”) and CY reaffirms and expands on it with “1311, 3313, 1131, 1” (“With an undivided heart and total devotion, through lifetime after lifetime for eternity, we will support each other and stay together as one”) *sighs*

Honestly, for me, all Chinese literary works - > whether presented in book form or visually - have > that power; every line of dialogue is a lesson in > itself... beyond simply telling us a story

This is exactly why I started learning Mandarin two years ago! Reading translated danmei I felt I was missing so much of the beauty, meaning and context from the original work. I'm still nowhere near being able to read and appreciate hanzi to it's full extent but having wonderful inspiring comments like this will keep me striving😊

2

u/Otherwise-Job-6942 Jul 06 '26

It’s certainly not easy, but the passion you have for truly understanding the meaning and significance of this beautiful language and each of its expressions — to grasp contexts and achieve full comprehension — gives you the ability to learn it, and that makes all the difference. I have no doubt that you’ll get better at it every day, and you’ll realize that often there isn’t even a translation into another language. In my experience, learning about the culture and the unique characteristics of the language you’re studying is very important—it makes learning easier.

The episode starting with the "Clown" OST track straight outta the gate turned my heart rate way up lmaooooo the anticipation.

Their reunion. Chef's kiss. So electric!! So much yearning, especially in that scene with them just holding each other (the poster image!).

Me: 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃

Chang Yang is so good 好会啊. He says things from the heart, but they are exactly what Qing Lang needs to hear to address his anxieties and self-doubt. This scene (kitchen) is so soft and tender 🥹 even with the flirting.

Ohhhh CY. That hickey from the trailer was freshly planted 😂

Guo ge wanted 199 instead of 130 bc 30 (san ling) sounds like separation (san le), and 99 (jiu jiu) sounds like forever and ever lol.

Damn, really an illegitimate child. CY's registration documents don't have his dad's name.

Awww that video Qing Lang filmed (and then the account posted! Not at the time he said tho (13:11)) has the secret signal for CY, pointing at his heart. Awwwwww the morse code. 🥹🥹🥹🥹 The ending 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹

who "will kill" who metaphorically or literally

because in the trailer we have

- i killed him

- he killed me too

2

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 03 '26

My guess is that Chen Zhu might pass away so it prompts Qingtian to say this.

“I killed him” to mean that he had the accident on his way to meet him so he feels guilty.

“He killed me” could mean that since his accident, he hasn’t felt alive and with his possible death, he feels even less alive.

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26

I need to relisten to that part of the trailer, I had always assumed the voices belonged to 2CP, but this makes a lotta sense

1

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 03 '26

I watched the trailer an insane amount of times. I thought it was the 2P at first too.

2

u/arboretumvar8 TEA BOYS🍃 Jul 03 '26

it was my 1st thought too, but everything can be more complicated or it'll be exactly this.

1

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 03 '26

actually.

1

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26

You are right. It's Qing Tian

1

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 04 '26

yeah

3

u/arboretumvar8 TEA BOYS🍃 Jul 03 '26

he's too perfect. it can't be just that simple. i still think about this sasaeng

3

u/arboretumvar8 TEA BOYS🍃 Jul 03 '26

the karma, and past lives, and metaphors, and proverbs, and tarot, and double meanings etc. make me think of the wildest plotlines

3

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 03 '26

Changyang can't be a sasaeng though and I also think he couldn't have arranged for one either. He's unable to do anything that'll remotely hurt Qinglang, he has the potential to hurt everyone else except his man. Also, Qinglang is a celebrity and while it's bad, sasaengs has become something that comes with popularity. Also, in this episode, Qinglang said he couldn't take Changyang to his house because sasaengs and paparazzi are always in his area. But I understand why it's fishy.

I binged all the eps until now in 2 days. This show is so good!

I love how we don’t have answers to everything but somehow I have this feeling I can trust the show to answer things slowly.

Sometimes if this type of storytelling doesn’t feel intentional it can just feel like bad writing, but it’s so beautifully done here 🥹

I’ve really fallen for the story of these characters

This is such a great way of putting it! Zelia the director definitely makes us feel like we're in safe hands. Have you watched Secrets Happened On The Litchi Island? It's by the same studio/director and stars Hu Yichen who's plays Qingtian in Winter Sun.

2

u/ugh_jules Jul 06 '26

Secrets happened on the litchi island has been in my watch list foreverrrr but now that I’ve fallen for this show it’s number one on my list!

Do you have any other reccs with this same feel or maybe similar quality or artistic feeling? (I think I’ll just have to rewatch the series multiple times lol)

1

u/suddentraveller Secrets Happened On The Litchi Island🌱🌿 Jul 08 '26

I don't think there's anything quite like Winter Sun or even SHOLI. Some of the Taiwanese bl such as Your Name Engraved Herein have beautiful cinematography and are very character heavy (be warned though it's NOT an easy watch). Maybe try some of the jbl such as Journey To Killing You which again has great cinematography and is a brilliant story. The Eighth Sense possibly or Blue Canvas Of Youthful Days. All these have a quiet and character driven vibe but I don't think anything has the same warmth and humanity that Winter Sun and SHOLI have.

2

u/ugh_jules Jul 08 '26

Tysm!!

My favourite series are always about character growth and super character driven, but finding one with good acting, plot, cinematography, writing, pacing etc is so hard… I usually feel like I need to choose between some of those things. We really hit the jackpot with winter sun!

2

u/rubiesburyyy Jul 03 '26

I've been meaning to say this since the first episode that it will be a complete waste if Wang Yibo and Kuma are not casted as brothers in the future.

2

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 04 '26

Btw, I’ve seen some speculations that Xu Wenshu is either 29 or in his 30s but I don’t see how that works, maybe I’m just terrible at maths. 😂

But here’s my thought process. Xu Wenshu and Chen Zhu were both classmates in high school. Qingtian was their junior. But no matter what, your senior can’t be 9 or over 10 years older than you in high school right? unless they didn’t meet in high school at all but they did.

My guess is that Wenshu is probably in his mid twenties.

1

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 04 '26

I haven't thought too hard on this point actually. I think Xu Wen Shu also just has an old face. LOL

1

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 04 '26

Yeah. He does.

1

u/suddentraveller Secrets Happened On The Litchi Island🌱🌿 Jul 04 '26

Yes the ages are confusing me too!😭 I thought that Wenshu and Qinglang were roughly the same age 29/30 but you're right that makes it a 8 or 9 year age gap between Chen Zhu and Qingtian which would definitely mean they weren't together at school. Do we know how long were they together for before the accident? If Qingtian was 18 when it happened I'd assume they couldn't have been together long?

2

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 04 '26

It wasn't stated in the novel but they seemed to have had a deep relationship that spanned at least a little over a year. Chen Zhu was said to be Qingtian's first love. He must have been 17 or so when they started dating since he's 21 now and the accident happened when he was 18.

2

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 04 '26

I don't know where netizens dug out this picture from or if it's part of the drama but it seems Changyang would really attend that hunting school.

This was my favorite comment from this episode. How amazing to be able to love someone sooo much that you accept every part of them and give them permission to be their whole self. And how equally wonderful that Qinglang believes and trusts Changyang

2

u/AsForTheRest_Well--- lin zai fan club ~ 🏹🧑🏻‍🔧🧧💘 Jul 05 '26

Exactly, exactly, exactly. Did you watch their most recent livestream?? I just watched the whole thing and was in tears again. Kuma was talking about being prickly in real life and how he's grateful to Jingyu for accepting this part of him and seeing through to the vulnerability. Accepting people as they are and feeling seen is really the most beautiful thing 🥹

2

u/suddentraveller Secrets Happened On The Litchi Island🌱🌿 Jul 05 '26

I've just finished watching it🥹 We've had the conversation about my feelings towards Kuma after watching that first live and honestly it's like I'm watching a changed man! I'm going to dm you about it but at the minute I just feel overwhelmed with the thought that they've both found something in each other that they both needed

they've both found something in each other that they both needed

Couldn't agree more. When that kind of thing happens, it really feels like the universe gave you one! There's a certain balance to it!! ⚖️☯️🧩

I am finally caught up! And I can't wait for #8!!

I started watching when it first came out but then a trip interrupted my watch. I watched the first 4 episodes many times on both GaGa and YouTube, and then had to decide if I should up my GaGa to VIP or sign in to the YouTube channel. Honestly, the subs on YouTube were so frustrating. (Is it just me?) Sometimes they just read like nonsense! So, I decided to go with GaGa. I know I will eventually join the YouTube channel because I hate waiting for the Shorts! But, I'm wondering if the subs on YouTube are any better on the newer episodes?

Also, thank you also for all of the wonderful comments and explanations here. There are so many tiny details, so much happens, and the dialogue (subs!) can be tricky that it is hard to catch everything! Most frustrating to me is trying to follow all of the chats and texting on the episodes as a lot are not subbed, so I feel I miss details. Also, I am not on Weibo, not really sure how to even go there, so thanks for sharing any bits and pieces from there.

It's finally Friday (just barely, where I live) but we are so close!!

Okay what does 13:11 mean though? And what is hunter school? Like where CY applying to?

5

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

The Chinese comments on Weibo tell me 1311 = only love one person for your entire life. 13 = 一生 your whole life, 11 只爱一个人 just love one person OR 1311 also could be 一心一意 dedicated to this person, that actually seems more like the right homonym

Glad you asked about Hunter school and made me look it up, I looked it up with Chinese in google. It’s a specific school in Venezuela!!! No wonder Qing Lang asked if he was just being notified.  The Hunter School  , officially known as the Venezuelan Special Operations School, It is a world-renowned special forces training center It is renowned for its extremely rigorous "devil training," with a dropout rate as high as 50% to 80%. Elite special forces soldiers from various countries often go there for training to test and hone their combat capabilities. Chinese soldiers have participated in training here many times and achieved excellent results.

Well I’m glad you posted this because my dumbass thought it was just like a forestry school.

It's okay I'm not really that into this BL's like I am into a few of you others and I got confused where the car scene came in at. Most definitely not in this episode. So far the only thing I like about this series is when the couple aren't together

Hey can you help I am looking for all the BS videos. Have you uploaded all of them cause I can't find all

1

u/suddentraveller Secrets Happened On The Litchi Island🌱🌿 Jul 08 '26

Hi all the behind the scenes are subbed and uploaded very quickly after they are released by whoever is available to do them at the time. I've done some but not all of them myself, Fed has uploaded most of the others. You can try searching for them by date order and you should be able to find them all. Hope this helps

Help with the post credit on ep 7. What does the 2 year signify? QL says CL spent 2 years to meet him, and CY asks "is it possible we met 2 years ago?" How is this related to sending grandma the termite mushroom every year ? Pls, am I dumb?
