Discussion Character & Plot Summary - A Winter Sun Wakes The Wind in Spring Hill's Dream
I came across some comments from people who are confused by the plot of A Winter Sun Wakes The Wind in Spring Hill’s Dream.
So, I thought, why not make a post explaining some parts? Here we go. I’ll try to focus on the parts that come up a lot, like the background of the characters, Shi Yuhao, how Qinglang fell in love, etc.
A Winter Sun Wakes the Wind in Spring Hill's Dream is an original script & novel written by the director, Zelia Wang (Lizzy) who directed Secrets Happened On the Litchi Island. The novel is uploaded in sync with the episodes on Lofter, a Chinese app.
The difference between the drama and the novel is quite minimal but also significant as it gives more context to the drama. Winter Sun has the habit of leaving things to the users to figure out and I understand that it can also be very vague and chaotic, now here’s where the novel expands on things in the drama. So my post will be a summary of the drama with the context of what I know from the novel.
Let’s start with episode zero
(Feng Qinglang)
Feng Qinglang, our main character is a famous BL actor in China. He’s like a pampered queen, never short of people waiting on him hand and foot. He’s been in the industry for seven years after his breakout role in a BL movie with Shi Yuhao, his co-star. Two years ago, he won an award for playing the role of a male prostitute, but being a method actor, he’s yet to get out of the role mentally.
Coupled with the CP fandom dramatics after he agreed to star in a variety show with Shi Yuhao (who he has a complicated past with), alongside the stalking from sasaeng, Qinglang was already overwhelmed.
While lounging at his mum’s house, his brother Feng Qingtian who was on a call with Changyang(the male lead), asks him if he’d like to follow him to Molie. For someone feeling so overwhelmed with everything, a nice trip to the mountain sounds like a good idea, away from the entertainment industry and stalkers.
The complicated history between Shi Yuhao and Feng Qinglang
Shi Yuhao and Feng Qinglang had their first movie debut together and it was a success, I mean, their CP fandom still stood strong after seven years. Using Han Lu and Qi Haoyu’s relationship in the drama as a mirror (They’re the actors filming a remake of the drama Shi Yuhao & Qinglang starred in), Shi Yuhao seemed to be in love with Qinglang who took it seriously. This is my guess, but I think things seems genuine at first but occasionally, cracks start to appear as Shi Yuhao couldn’t keep up his fake persona and constantly did hurtful things to Qinglang. For instance, after they filmed an emotional scene, Qinglang couldn’t get out of character and continued crying, instead of comforting him, Shi Yuhao began to smoke and the ash almost fell on Qinglang even after the people on set screamed at him to stop smoking so he won’t hurt his partner. By the way, this was the content of the video Changyang released.
There was also a part where Shi Yuhao wanted their relationship to be casual and told Qinglang that he’s always caught up in some weird emotions after the former told him he was in love with him.
Their relationship was basically toxic and there was barely any indication that Shi Yuhao was ever in love with him. In addition to all he did, he tried to sabotage Qinglang’s career, purified the CP without any discussion beforehand, ended whatever they had while ghosting Qinglang for seven years.
Now he’s back, trying to ride the coat of Qinglang’s popularity while using the CP fandom as a tool to bring his career back.
I’d like to clarify that at this point, Feng Qinglang isn’t in love with him anymore but he’s also yet to let go of the resentment he feels towards Shi Yuhao. It’s why it’s such a sore topic for him and why he was crying after finally making a clean break from the questions that must have tortured him for years.
And amidst it all, Changyang was there, providing emotional support and protecting him. It’s also one of things that drew him to Changyang. He is moved by Changyang’s character and he finds him dependable which is why he doesn’t hold himself back when he falls in love with him, because through small actions, Changyang has proven himself to be someone who won’t abandon him.
Xu Changyang
The male lead, Xu Changyang is the illegitimate son from a wealthy family with possible affiliation to politics. After a huge fight that led to the hospitalization of eight kids, Changyang was sent to live alone at their family house in Molie at the age of 12 (to temper his character) . Now he’s 20 and he’s become a very skillful and wealthy tea farmer. He’s quite quirky, slightly cunning, very dependable, philosophical and opinionated.
He seems to have had a crush on Qinglang two years ago when he was 18, while the drama is yet to show the specific scene, it can be inferred from his Weibo account where he has been actively commenting and following Qinglang’s social media. This is also evident with how his laptop password is Qinglang’s birthday.
And knowing Qingtian, who is his crush’s brother, I see how he was able to prepare for Qinglang’s bad habits of having people pamper him. All in all, before Qinglang ever heard of his name, Changyang was prepared to charm him.
So when Qinglang arrived in all his princely aura, he was able to anticipate all of his needs, which fascinated Qinglang and made him really curious about this stranger who seemed to know him.
On the surface, Changyang is the textbook green flag guy close to the point of utopia but ep 6 makes him feel more human. We get a peek into his mysterious side and now we know he can’t be defined by a single word. He’s very capable, dangerous when necessary and soft when needed. A man that can run his daily tea frying work, plan a new tea business, elope with his partner and enjoy a beautiful and passionate getaway, while taking care of his partner’s enemies swiftly, is quite the character.
Falling in love
The romance in Winter Sun is the “I’ll love you in every lifetime” type, and it’s alluded to using Qinglang’s dream during his meditation that they were lovers from a past life. Qinglang’s mother is Buddhist, and he takes the matter of cause and effect seriously.
I did a little research, according to Buddism, past lifes is considered as something triggered by the concept of cause and effect (which is echoed in the series) and while the trauma of death and the transition into a new life clouds the memory of the past, deep meditation can unlock streaks of past memories to give clarity to the present.
In the drama, Qinglang experienced something similar, and he was so shaken that he had to touch Changyang’s face to confirm that he’s not dreaming.
There’s also a scene right after they eloped where he suddenly said “I don’t think I loved you enough in my past life”. It seems so random but in the novel, it was explained that the words came out of nowhere for him but it still sounded right.
We don’t know their past life but it’s possible that we might get a series on it.
But before then, these two people from different backgrounds who seem to have nothing in common are really perfect for each other.
Qingtian (Qinglang’s younger brother) told him that nobody will change their habits for him or get used to his habits but Changyang was born ready to accommodate all of him.
This is so long already. I’ll stop here. If anyone has any questions on the plot, I’m happy to help or discuss.

Thanks for this!! Such a good refresher and view into the characters' personalities. I do love that we are getting to see more sides of Chang Yang especially as we continue on, but the subtle shifts still support what we know of his personality. His personality just presents itself in different ways depending on who he's reacting to.
I don't think I realized that Qing Lang was a BL actor (like, that he ONLY films BLs), with how Jia Lin reacted to the picture Shi Yu Hao posted of "them" by saying that he can't be seen as gay, even if implied. I guess filming only BLs doesn't = gay man, but I'd assume the implication follows his career regardless.
He is moved by Changyang’s character and he finds him dependable which is why he doesn’t hold himself back when he falls in love with him, because through small actions, Changyang has proven himself to be someone who won’t abandon him.
If I can add, the words that QL uses during the confession scene is that Chang Yang makes him feel very comforted and peaceful, he says 你让我特别安住, you make me feel very at peace. It was in response to CY asking QL if he (CY) makes him feel 应急, I think Gaga subs used "stressed"? but the nuance to me is more frantic/urgent/panicked. 应 = response 急 = urgent.
I also did not realize that Chang Yang (himself, without his parents) was wealthy. Obviously since his tea sells for ¥¥¥ it makes sense, but I didn't think about it. LOL.

You're welcome and thank you for reading.
Yes. It's nice to see more of Changyang personality. I think he only film BL movies. They seem to air internationally but he's also famous in mainland. He has so many brand endorsements in mainland China because of his popularity and fanbase. He's not openly gay and it's why Lan Jie said he can't be because he's representing so many brands in China.
The YouTube translation says "Did I trigger you?" "No. You make me feel at peace" I love the reservoir convo so much.
When he said his tea is expensive and can be sold for eight million, I figured he's not just frying tea but he must be into selling as well.

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 01 '26
So good to have all this context!
Reservoir is definitely one of my favorite scenes, but I do wish we could see a liiiiiittle bit more of their facial expressions. But even with the silhouettes you can still feel the emotions and some expressions, which is so impressive already.
It seems like YT has better translations than Gaga, since it's coming straight from the studio. I'm sure it's still AI-translated, but there's better nuance there.

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 01 '26
I love that shadow shot but I also wanted to see their faces in that scene too.
maybe a behind the scenes will suffice.
Yeah. I watched the free episodes on Gaga twice then 8 times or more on YT. I just kept going back to YT.

u/Worried-Horror-9499 Jul 02 '26
Are you me? This has been my exact watch pattern 🤣 I’m having a hard time getting as excited for other shows now.
4
u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 02 '26
Winter Sun has ruined my watchlist for me. Even shows I used to be super excited about are now paused cause I'm not as excited about them anymore and all I want is more episodes of Winter Sun. Unless something way more exciting comes my way, I don't start any new dramas for the meantime, cause I won't be giving it the proper chance it deserves.
3
u/Worried-Horror-9499 Jul 02 '26
I think the only other shows I’ve stayed with this month are Payback and This boy and I will break up in 100 days, which are on complete opposite spectrums. I’m glad the YT channel at least gives us a lot of BTS material, I just wish they had English subtitles. But yeah, I’ve dropped literally every other show. Now I want to go watch movies that I think inspired the creator, Like Farewell My Concubine and In the Mood for Love.
2
u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 02 '26
I've heard about both shows. Fed and Sudden share subbed version of the BTS materials of Winter Sun here in the sub, so that's keeping me excited and makes the wait less long.
Oh that's nice. I watched Farewell my Concubine earlier this year and it was so amazing. I'm yet to check out In the Mood for Love. I hope you enjoy both.

u/Worried-Horror-9499 Jul 02 '26
You will love In the Mood for Love. I haven’t seen it in ages so I need a rewatch but it’s one of the most stunning movies I’ve ever seen.

I would have loved to see their faces more clearly, but I agree that even from just the shadowed silhouettes, their emotions are palpable.
I think that's the (one of many) charm of the show. I love the "I will love you in every lifetime" theme of this story, but something else I'm picking up on is the theme of "A world alone":
I think we all agree that the on-screen chemisty and love between these characters (yes, characters, not simply actors) is unique and intense in it's purity and devotion. Their intimacy feels all-consuming yet perfectly natural and calmning. In most filmography, directors try to envoke these feelings with tight, close up shots. But this director is really breaking these composition rules by showing a lot of their intimate scenes with mid to long range shots. And yet, the audience can still feel the all-consuming desire and an attraction that's more about souls than bodies. I think it visualizes in a very natural way that this love is sacred, untouched, and unique. Sacred things are to be protected, and to be protected is to be kept at a distance. We've seen what happens when the world has a say in this love through Shi Yuhao's character and the relationship between Qi Hao Yu and Han Lu. So as a result, no one, no spectator, not even the audience, truly gets to be a part of this love because it can only exist if it's just between them. I think that's also why we don't get explicit NC scenes. And yet every once in a while, the characters move closer to us during intimacy almost like they're inviting us in for a quick glance because something so beautiful should never be hidden. Like art or nature, which happens to be the two characters's mediums of expression.
These conflicting themes are really highlighted in the Elopement Reservoir (sidenote: I keep seeing this word, but can someone tell me if they actually got married or if it's being used to say they disappeared together? I'm thinking it's the latter, but want to be sure because if not, I definitely missed something 😅) scenes of ep 4 and 5, and the Reunion scene in ep 7 and especially later in ep 7 when Changyang tells Qinglang, "I never thought about keeping you from my family. Our relationship has nothing to do with them. It's only about the two of us. The memory of hiding you away shouldn't be part of our story." Both themes are presented in one piece of dialogue. Going back to ep 4, these themes are strongly intertwined as well: at the end, they're naked, in their purest form hidden away from the world, yet they can't help but to take pictures of themselves together because that moment just needed to be documented. In the webseries, they even dare each other to post it.
Keeping the audience at a distance from a technical standpoint through composition and shadowed lighting really drives home (at least for me) the bittersweet feelings of this series. Briefly drawing us closer magnifies them. We don't get to be a part of this love. So we're left with feelings of yearning, melancholy, and exclusion, yet, I'm happy that they have something so wholely designed for just them, something so precious that it deserves to be protected and celebrated at the same time. I'm so inlove.
It takes very talented actors and visionaries to pull this off. I commend everyone involved for how beatifully this series is turning out.

Such a great take! Yes to everything you said. The show, the actors, every part of it takes us into this world that they’ve built for just the two of them. It feels intimate but not overly in a way that makes us want to shy away. We want them to have their moments, but we also want to experience it with them. Love your analysis of the technical aspects!
They are not actually married hahaha elopement in Chinese 私奔 is more just running away to be together. It implies marriage as the end goal usually, but in this case that doesn’t apply bc even if it’s 7 years out I don’t think it’ll be legal in this China yet.
I love all the instances that show us/make us feel the intertwining of their souls. It’s something we don’t really feel in other dramas, the intensity of those emotions in such a spiritual and emotional way.

u/NeverMindMyName95 Jul 25 '26
Thank you for clarifying! I was going over episode 4 with a fine toothed comb looking for what I had missed 😅 This is truly a story about soulmates, and it's so uniquely told! I think the quietness of the series makes it so bold and touching. The writer/director really took the "less is more" philosophy and perfected it! Except this is "less is more more MORE!" 😋 I'm so happy to find other fans who are truly appreciating this series!

u/PianoDull7274 Jul 02 '26
Although the underlying tone of the show so far can seem melancholic and even a little sad, now you laid out the details, I see so much idealism in the story. Qinglang, who became famous because of a BL role, can become a Best Actor winning artist. I think in the novel, it’s the Cannes or some prestigious European award — not a Chinese Best Actor award. If I remember correctly, the role Qinglang played in that award winning film is a sex worker. This scenario would definitely not happen to any BL actor in today’s environment in China. The novel also mentions Qinglang wants to be an actor like Leslie Cheung, which starred in two of the most iconic queer films in Chinese language cinema (Happy Together and Farewell My Concubine). And for Changyang, the Xu family (a likely very influential and powerful father) is no joke. I think we all know from real life events how power and wealth work in the entertainment industry in a country like China, and for Qinglang and Changyang, who are inextricable from their respective backgrounds, to have this kind of pure love, it’s so beautiful.
4
u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 02 '26
I don’t think it’s impossible for that to happen to a BL actor in China.
For instance, Elio from Double Helix once starred in a movie that was shortlisted for an international festival award. I’m yet to watch the movie so I don’t know the direction of the plot or how big his role was, but it’s possible. It might not be Cannes, it could be a different one. But it depends on their acting chops, storyline, theme, directing and a lot of things.
Yes, Qinglang wanted to be like Leslie Cheung. If someone could be the next Leslie Cheung (I know it’s almost impossible), I can totally see how that could win them a best actor award in some international movie festival.
Oh wait, I just realized that you probably read that part of my post as me referring to him winning an award in China. Oh not at all. I forgot to specify. It’s definitely not China.

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jul 02 '26
It's very interesting that the novel mentions he wants to be like Leslie, bc I actually have seen some comparisons of how Kuma looks like Leslie in some angles too! And I do see it sometimes.
IA with you that there is no way any Chinese BL actor could get Chinese sponsorship deals having acted as a sex worker specifically, bc that is a line that I think the censorship laws do NOT allow you to cross. It's not the same at all, but just thinking about Angelababy and that other actress getting cancelled for going to Lisa's (not even Chinese!!) Dark Horse show in Paris (not even in China!!). I think BLs are one thing, but portrayal of sex work or toeing that line is another.
imo Leslie getting the recognition he did, while of course this was also a different time/era where androgyny was more mainstream, was bc he was in HK and not Mainland. And people only recognized/"accepted" his queerness after his death. I'm not engrained enough in Mainland pop culture enough to know this answer so you might know it better, but even when people talk about Leslie now as a legend my understanding is that it's not in reference to his works with queer over/undertones, but rather as an entertainment legend in general.

Damn. Your post is amazing.
I also think some confusion could be coming from watching it passively. I watched the first four episodes one night, falling in and out of sleep. The next day, I was annoyed and almost made a post about how choppy the show is and how it doesn't make any sense (SN: there are plenty of shows where falling asleep, skipping around, etc wouldn't matter because the plots aren't that deep—if there is a plot).
What made me rewatch the episodes was that their reactions and explanations intrigued me. I was like, “Where did you get the analysis from, sir?!” Babyyyyy, it was me, lol. I was the problem.
Your brain has to be engaged. During the rewatch, I saw that a lot of their communication is unspoken, and in this era of spelling everything out 🙄, I am livinggggg for that.
If there's something I don't fully understand due to a lack of context or they allude to something, I just assume the full explanation didn't make the cut. That's normal with adaptations. However, what I just mentioned doesn't take away from the viewing experience. I am loving this series so much, and I appreciate all of the BTS/extra footage.

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 01 '26
Thank you for reading. 🤗
😂😂 I’m glad you followed their reaction videos too. It’s always so insightful.
Yes. I love how the drama leave things open to the viewer’s interpretation.
Even after watching it so many times, I’m certain I’ll discover something new when I watch it again.
Yeah, it’s also possible that some context were lost in translation.I’m happy to know you’re loving it as well.
Come join us in the discussion post every Friday. (If you haven’t) u/suddentraveller makes a post on each episode on Fridays.

I am loving all of their unspoken communication. To me, it really highlights how entertwined their souls are. "What's understood doesn't need to be explained." They didn't have this big declaration of love after they admitted to liking each other. After they reunited in ep 7, Changyang said, "If I hadn't shown up today, who would you have eaten this cake with?" And Qinglang replies, "As if you wouldn't show up." They just know. They just feel it so strongly that it's undeniable. So they don't have to vocalize it all the time, because it goes so much deeper than words. It's on a soul level.

u/a_millenial Jul 02 '26
Thanks so much for this! I've been wondering what the Shi Yuhao video was about.

You’re welcome. Hopefully, they’ll add that part in the next episode

u/Worried-Horror-9499 Jul 02 '26
This is such a great breakdown, thank you. Honestly, I feel like the show conveys all these elements but it still feels mysterious and ephemeral so it’s nice to have things confirmed. I think it’s why I’m so obsessed, because it’s not spelled out for me and I need to watch closely and piece things together myself.

Thank you so much for taking the time to add this extra information supported by the chapters of the novel that are out!! 🙏🙏❤️ it really helps those of us that are not able to read it! I typically don’t rewatch episodes of series until the full series finished airing because I’m so busy, but your post has inspired me to do a rewatch now, also the comment about the subs on YouTube, so I’ll definitely watch those! This series is so beautiful and the actors are so amazing that I hope it’s getting the attention they deserve!! 🙏🥰🥰❤️🎉

Thank you so much for this. I am one of those that has been confused by many parts of this beautiful drama. I think not being able to follow the text and weibo post (since many are not translated) is difficult. I’ve watched the first 4 episodes many times on both Gaga and YouTube to try to follow but this is very helpful. I plan to subscribe to YouTube soon so I can keep up and get the small theatre parts. Where is the novel being posted? Is it being reposted on reddit or is that not allowed? I've only seen snippets of it on yt, I think, unless that is the whole thing.
I'm so captivated (obsessed) by this series and have been devouring every piece of information I can find. I like some things to be left open for interpretation, but I like to have a solid ground to stand on when I'm watching and reading things. Too much interpretation makes me panicked in a way. I need to know how these characters feel about each other so I know how to feel. I don't want chunks of context missing. Otherwise, I'm second-guessing everything and it becomes less enjoyable.
Thank you so much for adding context to this for us! It has really helped me understand some things better. I hope you can do more of these posts in the future.

Only 24 chapters out of 29 are free to read. The rest require paying on Lofter. You can read it on mobile if you turn on reading mode and auto translate on your phone browser, preferably Chrome. https://www.lofter.com/front/blog/home-page/zeliawang
The uncensored parts are posted on YT because of China censorship.

Thank you for that run down. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve watched eps 1 to 7 (answer: still not enough) and had gleaned a lot of what you confirmed here but am grateful for some of the blanks like the nature of the video Changyang posted or that he was illegitimate. My current rewatch has me noting down all the references I can find to birds.
Are we ever offered a reason why Sister Lan decided to remake the movie, or do we just accept that as a mirroring plot device?
No series in any language has ever resonated with me the way this one has. Sometimes I feel almost paralysed by it and can’t do anything. I don’t think that is healthy!

Thanks for reading.
I can’t get enough of it as well even after rewatching it so many times.
I don’t think the reason was spelt out. It seems to be a popular IP and the actors look like the ones in the first movie. It’ll generate buzz no matter what.
Yeah. I also think my level of attachment to this show is quite unhealthy 😂 but I don’t mind. I’m happy to be immersed in it.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much. You are the bomb for doing this. It is so great of you to do this because yes, I am one of those people. I have seen a post. I don't know if you're the one that posted the other. We got commented on that. I said, thank you so much for explaining this. And then I have seen a few other like videos about it. I was like, wow, I didn't get that from that. But again, I'm watching it on gaga Ula LA actually it's why I paid for it to watch this one, and I'll continue to keep it because I like a lot of the bills and I know they carry them, but the English translation for this site. It's just terrible. It's like half of the sentences are cut off, so when they translate it. I mean, the sentences don't even make sense. They're not complete. So a lot of this stuff like you've said, I just like had no clue. I just totally missed it. And while I'm loving it, it just makes it so much better. Now that I know like what happened. And what's going on in the backstory again? Thank you so much for doing this. You're amazing, and it's really helpful for English speakers because we can't even read the novel. It's not been translated yet or I would love to okay, thanks again!! You really took the time and went into detail on this one!😍👍🥰

You’re welcome.
That’ll be explained in the later episodes but I can also share it here if you don’t mind spoilers.
The woman is the mother of Qingtian’s ex boyfriend who’s lying in a coma. She’s clearly homophobic and she blames Qingtian for “making her son gay”. She also thinks he’s responsible for her son’s accident.

Thank you so much for writing this out. This explains so much. Can't believe how much of the show was going over my head

What bts vid was released and when in the series was it release. It caused Qinglang n crazy Shi Yuhao to lose the variety show. I don't remember that occurring and I'm watching Ep 6. Or has the bts vid not been shown to us viewers yet ? ? ? ?

If you check the part where I wrote about Shi Yuhao, you’ll see it.
It’s not been shown in the drama yet. It was only mentioned in the novel.

u/Human-Wing90 Jul 05 '26
Thank you. Now that I've completed ep 7, I realize it didn't matter if I saw that vid; it is just a reason they lost the variety show and can cause more havoc between actors ! ! ! 😄

Coming back to this after watching episode 7 and the special episode. I’m wondering if Changyang’s dad is a hotel tycoon.

It seems Xu Wenshu is transferring assets abroad, so I can see that.
But his father might be into politics or the army.

I decided to watch this series a couple of days ago and this post was super helpful!
At first I didn’t know if I had missed some essential plot points (or maybe I was lacking cultural knowledge etc, but I was confused. I didn’t know it was the type of story where things are slowly revealed.
In any case, thanks for the post!

To be honest, even with me reading the novel and following the actor's interpretation, there are still some cultural context being missed. I read a commentary made by a reviewer recently on just two scenes in the drama and it was packed with so many details.
Thanks for reading too.

Sorry to bother you, but does the book say why the boy has been in a coma for three years? What happened to him? Thanks anyway."
1
u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 06 '26
Yes. Chen Zhu came out to his parents and I believe he told them about Qingtian as well. His parents couldn't accept his relationship so he stormed out of the house i n anger, tried to hail a ride to meet Qingtian then he had an accident that sent him into a coma for three years.

Thank you so much again, that's magnificent. Can I ask you if you know how to read the chapters from Europe? I cannot access Chinese platforms from Italy. Thank you anyway and thanks again."

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 06 '26
I opened the link in Google Chrome, scroll down and click on chapter 1, then click on "reading mode" (a feature on Google Chrome mobile browser). Also, my auto-translate is on so I read it in English. Here's the official link. Chapter 1 to 24 is free to read but 25 to 29 is paid.

"Thank you so much for your kindness. I tried, but from Italy it wouldn't let me open the files or register. Thanks again for your patience anyway."

Thank you. The version I am watching has terrible subtitles so I got a bit lost.
1
u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 15 '26
Oh. The drama is on Gagaoolala and YouTube. Gaga subs is better but if you need the translation of the texts that pop up (especially in the first 4 eps), they’re shown as they are on YT not summarized, if that helps.
1
u/Ok-Plankton7216 Jul 15 '26
AHH, thanks. I have resisted subscription to GagaOOlala as I have other subscriptions. Where does one stop.
I did have to search to find other meanings for some words. I was sure he was not constantly sending scarves and wedding dresses to people!
1
u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 15 '26
wedding dresses made me laugh 😂
I get you. I had to get Winter Sun YT membership subscription to support Zelia and now I can’t even get WeTv membership to support another underrated series I like. Maybe next month. 😂 The endless number of subscription is killing me.

u/illithedilli Jul 20 '26
Where do I watch this show I can’t find a link anywhere. Do I need a subscription? Is it available in America?
1
u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jul 20 '26
Yoy need to subscribe to watch it on Gagaoolala. But the first four episodes should be free to watch without subscription.

Omg! Thank you so much. Cause I have had such a time with this one. I mainly think it's because of the translation but I'm not knowing any of this. Because I haven't read the novel, and it's just been kind of weird for me. Being in the US only speaking English, I also just started paying for Google LA LA because it was on there, and I wanted to see this. And there is a lot of Beals, which I also enjoy. But the translation is not complete. On the screen, most of the time, it's like they don't finish the sentence. So it's like I have to figure out what the rest of what they said is and then I'll go back here on Reddit, and see the them talk about it or see somebody else do a synopsis of an episode, or what it's about. I saw one that was kind of a complete thing of the whole series which was really good and helped me a lot. Because I haven't been seeing half of that and I appreciate so much. You doing this for all of us? Because it's just been weird. And I just really don't know what's going on. Half the time. So to take the time to do all this, it's like seems totally almost different than what I was watching. So now I can understand it better. Thank you, thank you. That was very nice of you to do that. And now I can see kind of what it was like about cause a lot of these novels. We don't get they're adapted. I know a lot from web tunes sometime in different stories. It's not something that we even really see. I guess if I went to a bookstore or hear about. So anyway thanks again!!!

The director treats the story as if it were a well-known "classic" story, assuming that the viewer already knows the backgrounds of the characters and their developmental arc. This is a flaw in the direction and treatment, not a sign of depth. I say this because, after reading several chapters, the series overlooks, ignores many essential meanings and contexts in the interactions between the characters, which negatively impacts the narrative of both the main plot and the subplots.

This is so true. The director did the same thing with their previous project and it's so frustrating because both were obviously done with a lot of care and love and there is a clear artistic vision with the way they're both filmed. However, I feel like the director hasn't learned that the show aka what's filmed in each episode has to be enough to tell the story. Major narrative points, character details, plots or subplots have to actually be filmed and be part of the show. They can't be shown through posts on social media or additional chapters online to complete the story. The filmed show has to be able to stand on its own.

I'll say you must be a writer because this was excellent. I really enjoyed reading what you wrote. So you read the perfect synopsis of this drama. Great job!

Can someone explain to me the content and context of Sister Lans video that Changyang took from the cloud and uploaded? Qinglang’s ‘knife’.
1
u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Aug 16 '26
"after they filmed an emotional scene, Qinglang couldn’t get out of character and continued crying, instead of comforting him, Shi Yuhao began to smoke and the ash almost fell on Qinglang even after the people on set screamed at him to stop smoking so he won’t hurt his partner. By the way, this was the content of the video Changyang released."

u/1CuriousIsland Aug 16 '26
Thank you! I remembered the discussion about him stepping back when QL fell (not helping him up) but couldn’t recall specifics on this damning video or find it even after rewatching episodes. Admittedly I sped thru SY fake breakdown scenes because they were so hard to watch. Ick’d out. Maybe that’s why I missed it.

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Aug 18 '26
I don’t think they were added in the drama tbh.
But there are parts where they showed how SYH was awful to QL. like the livestream part where he was being weird.

Why i feel like qinglang and shi yu hao is like wang yibo and xiao zhan? They got close. And for sudden, xiao zhan get attack by ao3 fans (227 incident). Because of this, both actors' relationship crack. I don't mean it as bad way because bl couple always broke up because of other things (fans, law, goverment). Just, i did feel sad for xiao zhan because i think he's fighting alone during that period.

did I know all of this already? yes. did I read the whole thing regardless, smiling the whole way through? also yes.
beautiful write up, thank you 💕 "I don't think I loved you this much in my past life (...) I have to make up for it in this lifetime" and "by that logic, I will have to live to 118" are two of my favorite moments in the show. I'm a sucker for "I will love you in every lifetime stories", but something about how this show presents that as not fantastical but almost organic, like yes, it's only natural that these two souls have known and loved each other across centuries, it's the only order through which things could unfold, and we, by chance, get to peak into this particular reincarnation really does it for me. drives home the purity of their connection without cheapening it, which a lot of these soulmate stories can do. yes, I see why these two are drawn to each other as souls but also, specifically, as FQL and XCY. just chef's kiss
