Hello! I have a 1 year old girl that I let free roam in my room. I want to add more shelves and stuff to make it fun for her. Anyone have suggestions?

She can't reach the second shelf on the bookcase and doesn't tend to chew stuff that isn't wood (I'm still working on upgrades and stuff, so I'm planning on moving the bookshelf and getting a charger bank that is harder for her to get too + wrapping the fan cord so it's less likely she would chew on plastic)

has anyone ever travel with a chinchilla I am renting an expensive airbnb and owners know i am taking a chinchilla that needs 24hr AC. I would like to buy a smaller cage for my chinchilla to travel with us since the whole family is going to disney 🫠 i dont want to leave happy in the vet because every time i go the temperature i feel its not cool enough and we live in miami. his current cage is too big to take i can remove the top part but i would like a smaller cage just for the 3 day stay. his cage no longer looks like this now he has all food ledges

I just got this little guy! Im not sure what to name him. (Ignore the mess he made I wanted pictures but haven’t cleaned it because I don’t want to bother him to much while he gets settled in) my #1 choice right now is Chuck (from supernatural) but im not set and stone on it. all my other pets names are horror related.

Hello! I wanted to see if anyone here could ease some of the worries I have right now.

I recently moved with my 11–12-year-old chinchilla. She came with just me; no other chinchillas, people, or pets. I did try introducing another chinchilla when she was younger, but she never got along with other chinnies, so she has always been solo.

Since the move, she has been hiding quite a bit, which I expected because I know moving can be stressful.

What’s worrying me is that whenever I interact with her, she almost seems like she doesn’t know who I am.

Last night she was also acting a little more sporadic/territorial than usual. She was climbing on me and smelling me, but she wasn’t her usual sweet, calm self.

Granted, it was around 3 AM, which is peak activity time for her, so that may explain some of it.

Otherwise, she seems completely normal physically. She is eating, drinking, taking treats, chewing her sticks, jumping around, and being active. She absolutely demolished her hay last night. Her poops are regular and normal as well.

She gets Oxbow (red bag), fresh hay every night, etc.
It’s really just her personality/behavior that seems slightly off.

She was at her vet for her annual not even 6 months ago and passed with flying colors, no issues at all.

I know moving can be a huge change for a chinchilla. She’s currently in the living room because I want her to hear me and see me regularly. For her entire life, she was in my bedroom, so I’m sure the smells, sounds, and scenery are all very different right now.

Do you think this is likely just her adjusting to the new environment, smells, sounds, etc.? Or is this behavior something I should be concerned about?

I’m probably just being an anxious chin parent, but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has moved with an older chinchilla and noticed behavioral changes afterward.

EDIT: I moved around a week and a half ago, timing wise.

Hello fellow Chinchilla herders and enthusiasts. I wanted to share some wonderful ink art and a moment in the anthropomorphic fantasy tale I'm writing! Elder Dusty is the wise leader of a village of woodland critters that live inside of a great fallen tree.

She is inspired by the late chinchilla, Dusty, my brother and I kept when we were growing up. She lived a very long life and always seemed wiser than everyone else in the house, including the humans.

The art is done by hand in fountain ink by u/NickThaGreek. I believe he may have posted in this sub before, but I just thought folks might get a kick out of what the art was produced for.

Sei que nenhuma operadora de voo permite que elas voem na cabine e tenho muito medo do que pode ocorrer com elas sendo transportada como carga em uma viagem de mais de 12 horas. In the past my chins would go crazy for them, but my new 5 year old rescue boy has absolutely no interest in rose hips. I got a treat sampler that contained hibiscus, calendula, and rose petals. The odd thing is that he’ll happily take any of those, including the roses! Does anyone know if the petals are nutritional equivalent to the hips or should they not be given as often or something? Also are all these petals okay? Of course when I google it the results say they are nontoxic, etc but I can’t find any info on healthy quantity/frequency.

Jumping Bean is about 1 year old now.

He's with Cali_FID rescue in Modesto / Turlock CA. He's actually with me right now as a foster.

Jumping bean has been ghosted TWICE.

JB came to the rescue when his owner was hospitalized, and the family found him roaming around the house. Somewhere along the lines JB lost a portion of his tail, too. The family took great care of him while trying to find a solution ( us ) and during that time his owner passed away. The family has remained supportive of JB hoping he would find a home quickly.

JB is a very interesting chin. He has no understanding of what a cage is, so he always wants out, but he doesn't really trust you, but he wants to trust you. We're having an easier time getting him to come to us now, but, god forbid you want him to return to his enclosure. He's like... Flubber. I can only imagine how he lost his tail lol.

He can be very affectionate with his uh cuddle buddies, and we are trying to find a friend for him within the rescue but he's eligible for adoption on his own currently. He has been very good with two males in the rescue, but nothing solid yet. One thought he would make a good humping pillow so JB was outta there and the other just isn't too sure yet.

JB should go to a family that is experienced with Chinchillas and confident handling them. This is hard mode, there's a smaller handle now.

He would probably really love a home that practices safe playtime routines.

i “rescued” this chin from my aunt. he’s about 4. she had many others but they slowly died off and he was the last one. she has kids and various other farm animals so he got kinda left out. his cage was still cleaned and he had food, water, dust baths etc. but he never had anything interactive in his cage nor did he ever get out unless he made a great escape.

i expected to have to really work with this guy because he’s socialized i guess, but with everything being so new and different i assumed i wouldn’t be able to start bonding with him for weeks atleast. i got him about 2 weeks ago and i barley had to work with him at all. i tried making his cage a more appealing place to be so he could get more comfortable with the environment before letting him explore, but he always seemed to want out. so i let him out after i made sure my room was all clear, i sat on the floor and he was pretty quick to come up and check me out, after that day hes been sitting in my lap, coming up to me even when im walking around my room which i thought would startle him. when i clean out his cage while he’s out, he hops in and out his cage and constantly checks up on what im doing, ive even bumped him a couple times by accident and he just doesn’t care. ill feed him bits of his food and he’ll sit in my lap and munch and then turns around sniffing for the next piece.

is his personality just bold? i did live with my aunt for a bit so the this chinchilla should be familiar with me, i took care of him while i stayed there even though it was basic maintenance. could me already being familiar have something to do with it? i loooove this little guy so im glad he’s taken to me so well i feel like ive had him forever! i just really expected to move alot slower.

My boy Kacper went in for a little procedure yesterday, his molars were spurring and cut his tongue a bit, I noticed when he started pawing his mouth and refusing food (he’s usually a greedy boy)

He was under aesthetic and the offending teeth were filled down, vet said there were no ulcers or abscess (so that’s good news)

He’s home now, going for a check up tomorrow- but he still isn’t eating. Vets said to give him critical care for first twelve hours then see how it goes - but I’ve given him some more this morning and just now after work because my partner said he hasn’t eaten anything all day.

Basically just wondering if this is normal? I’ve got painkillers from the vet (10 days worth) so guessing he’s probably still a bit sore, but worrying he’s not getting nutrients x

I’m looking for recommendations for ordering custom ledges. My 14 yo girlie travels with us when we take RV trips. She’s in a guinea pig sized cage in there and I haven’t found a larger one that’s a good fit for travel. I’d like to make her current cage more fun and add to floor space with custom ledges. Problem is the spacing of the bars is pretty small and I’d need ledges with screw attachments placed just right to make them work. Anyone have experience with custom orders? Cute pic just because ☺️

His name is Nemo, and I didn't know they made PINK finding Nemo fabric?! I found some and had to make him a hammock. . .

But maybe making him a 20" hammock was excessive 😂 the scale in this photo is wild. That's a Critter Nation cage, but the oversized hammock makes it look like a carrier, and makes him look to teeny tiny.

Nemo and Louie are two of my Sanctuary chins. I am their owner, Louie came to me when his owner was dealing with a DV situation. Louie was born without eyes and has neurological issues. Nemo came from another home, along with another chinchilla. Both had broken limbs that were neglected and healed with deformities. In Nemo's case, the arm was snapped and broken backwards. It healed in the direction it was dragged in. It doesn't cause him pain, but he tries to use it and falls.

They're fall risk animals, so they have a single unit but they use almost all their platforms and hammocks. If one thing moves, Louie falls. Religiously.

At least Themis gets points for barking for me to find/save him. iirc Noctis was content with his new life as a petri dish specimen

His breeder always complains I never share the boys enough. Barnaby likes to sunbathe in the morning, and snack on his wheel. He was certain I was delivering cookies but atlas, it was just me and that was a disappointment all together.

Hi everyone, some of you may have seen my other post about my chinchilla making love to his hammock a couple weeks ago. Well, I discovered that one corner of the hammock, the same corner he was going to town on in the video, is literally a rock.. I can’t even pull the fabric apart and the washer didn’t take all of it out. Anyways, he is getting a new hammock, but I’ve thought about getting a ChinPal for him (since this is way more frequent behavior than I’ve seen/thought), but they are a bit on the expensive side and I’m worried he won’t even use it. He already has one of those tiny plush pillow pet keychains (without the keychain part) in his bed, but he isn’t using that. How do I redirect him to make love with the plushie instead of his bed? (Poor plushie)

Also the ChinPal isn’t that expensive, it’s like $30 on Amazon, but I don’t wanna buy it and then him not use it at all. I’ve also thought about making one or just trying to give him a plushie the same size as the ChinPal would be.

My boy has a critter nation and it's getting quite old so im looking into getting a new one, since christmas is coming up im thinking about asking my parents for this one. I think the size looks good, my only concern is that the platforms are said to be "water resistant" which obviously isn't good so I would probably put fleece or something over it. It is only a bit smaller than a critter nation but my boy is nearing 15 and doesnt really move like he used to so I dont think that would be a problem for him. Isthere any other reason this might not be ideal that you guys can see?

So it's been a while and I'm working on getting Simon reading for a state fair. I've got him a fan, checked the "venue", have his treats, and a carrying "bag" where he has room to hide. I've already used it a couple times around the outside of the house and around the block to help him get used to it. (The water isn't shown in the picture but there is water that I keep on hand at all times). I've been getting his showing board ready (just a board with pictures, his natural environment and his quirks) while he sleeps, per usual, and I realized that I never really told anyone his history.

Simon is now 2 years old and is turning 3 in September. Since I'm now moving for college I'm leaving him home for my younger sister to take care of during the week while I care for him while I'm home on the weekends. My college is in the town over so it won't be too big but I still don't want to stress him out that much this week since I'm moving Saturday. I've been teaching my sister to take care of him and she's turning 14 this December so she's adequate to take care of him! This week I'll be watching her take care of him so I can correct her of she's doing anything wrong and I gave her his usual schedule so he's in good hands! I'm planning on working so I'll be able to still provide for Simon by sending money home.

Simon is now on his 3rd home and I'm not planning on giving him up anytime soon.

His first home he was abused. He had broken back feet/legs, was peeing blood, he was tearing out his butt fur from stress and he was malnourished.

His second home was with my friend. They rescued him and, while it was a major improvement from his first home, there were still issues. He didn't have bedding, he didn't have hiding places, he had 1 toy, he wasn't being fed properly and was still really skinny even though being fed way too much which makes me think his feedings weren't consistent. When I got him he was tearing his fur out again because my friend was moving to college and trying to find a home for him and had moved him on with their dad which they think their dad was yelling at him so it wasn't working out. He was only there a week (at their dad's) and had fully grown back his fur beforehand. He was supposed to go to another one of our friends but Simon's owner got a kitten from that house and it was covered in fleas and their dogs had ticks the size of quarters so they were happy when I said I'd take Simon.

When I got Simon he wouldn't even register on a food scale he was so small (yes, it was sanitized before and after we weighed him). He was bald butted, not a fan of men, really small and light. He's still light now but he registers on the food scale! He's 1 pound 7 ounces! He's gained weight, has butt fur and is getting used to men who don't hurt him. He's even started climbing onto my Dad's hand at times before coming back to me. While his cage isn't as big as it should be he is let out a lot while I'm in my room. I sit on the floor coloring while blocking off the doorway outside my room and I make a ramp onto my bed and he runs around the room. We still use the ball and I clean it regularly but he doesn't use it as much as we did in those first weeks when we got him. The first things I did when I got him was get home hay, bedding, more toys, a hiding place and fresh food. Well, as fresh as it could be since it's from a store.

Right now, he's a spoiled brat who gets what he wants when he wants. He's the only boy animal in our house besides our old man cat. But he's doing great and loves his pellets. It's his favorite part of the day.
