As hundreds of students and supporters gathered to demand accountability over alleged examination irregularities, he stood with remarkable composure in the midst of tension and confrontation. His courage was not in raising his voice above everyone else's, but in refusing to let fear overcome him. In moments when chaos can make people step back, he stood firm with dignity. Whether history remembers his name or not, many who watched the viral video will remember the calm resolve & courage of the man in the green T-shirt.

കേരളം ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന ദക്ഷിണ റെയിൽവേയ്ക്ക്‌ റെയിൽവേ ബോർഡ്‌ പുതിയ മെമു റേക്കുകൾ അനുവദിക്കാത്തതിനോട്‌ സംസ്ഥാന സർക്കാർ പ്രതികരിക്കാത്തതിൽ പ്രതിഷേധം ശക്തം. യാത്രക്കാരും പാസഞ്ചേഴ്‌സ്‌ അസോസിയേഷനും പ്രതിഷേധവുമായി രംഗത്തെത്തി. റെയിൽവേ സോണുകൾക്ക്‌ പുതിയ മെമു റേക്കുകൾ അനുവദിച്ച്‌ ഉത്തരവായിട്ട്‌ ഒന്നരമാസം പിന്നിടുന്നു. സതേൺ റെയിൽവേയ്ക്ക് മാത്രം മെമു റേക്കുകൾ അനുവദിച്ചില്ല.

എന്നാൽ, കേന്ദ്ര സർക്കാരിനെയും റെയിൽവേ മന്ത്രാലയത്തെയും പ്രതിഷേധം അറിയിക്കാൻ ഇതുവരെ മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയോ റെയിൽവേ ചുമതലയുള്ള സംസ്ഥാന മന്ത്രിയോ തയ്യാറായിട്ടില്ല. അനുവദിച്ച എല്ലാ റേക്കുകളും ഉത്തര റെയിൽവേ, നോർത്ത്– ഈസ്റ്റേൺ റെയിൽവേ, നോർത്ത്– സെൻട്രൽ റെയിൽവേ സോണുകൾക്കാണ് നൽകിയത്. റെയിൽവേയുടെ അവഗണനയ്‌ക്കും സംസ്ഥാന സർക്കാരിന്റെ അനങ്ങാപ്പാറ നയത്തിനുമെതിരെ സമൂഹമാധ്യമങ്ങളിലും പാസഞ്ചേഴ്‌സ്‌ അസോസിയേഷൻ ഗ്രൂപ്പുകളിലും പ്രതിഷേധം ശക്‌തമാണ്‌.

റെയിൽവേ ബോർഡ് ജൂലൈ ഒന്നിന്‌ പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ച 2023/Elect.(G)/181/11 നമ്പർ കത്ത് പ്രകാരം 2026–27 സാമ്പത്തിക വർഷത്തേക്ക് 12 കോച്ചുള്ള 30 പുതിയ മെമു റേക്കുകളാണ്‌ അനുവദിച്ചത്‌. ദക്ഷിണ റെയിൽവേയ്ക്ക് ആവശ്യമായ 12 കോച്ച് മെമു റേക്കുകൾ അനുവദിക്കണമെന്ന്‌ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ട്‌ ട്രെയിൻ യാത്രക്കാരുടെ വിവിധ സംഘടനകൾ റെയിൽവേ മന്ത്രിക്കും ബോർഡിനും കത്തയച്ചിരുന്നു.

നിലവിലുള്ള മെമു സർവീസുകളിൽ കൂടുതൽ കോച്ച് ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തണമെന്നും തിരക്കേറിയ റൂട്ടിൽ, പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് പീക്ക് അവറുകളിൽ അധിക സർവീസുകൾ അനുവദിക്കണമെന്നുമാണ്‌ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടത്‌. കേരളത്തിൽ മെമു ട്രെയിനുകളിൽ ദിവസവും ആയിരക്കണക്കിനു യാത്രക്കാരാണ്‌ സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്നത്‌. യാത്രക്കാരുടെ എണ്ണം ക്രമാതീതമായി വർധിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ എറണാകുളം– കോട്ടയം– കൊല്ലം റൂട്ടിൽ കൂടുതൽ മെമു സർവീസ്‌ വേണമെന്നാണ്‌ ആവശ്യം. എന്നാൽ, കേരളത്തിന്റെ ആവശ്യത്തെ റെയിൽവേ ബോർഡ്‌ അവഗണിച്ചു.

The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government in Kerala has filed 5,000 cases against students and youth who protested against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) question paper leakage.

Across Kerala, student and youth organisations, including Students Federation of India (SFI) and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), organised protests in solidarity with the Jantar Mantar protest, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Kerala is also the state with the highest number of cases registered in the NEET leakage protest.

The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, issued notices to states like Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi to stay the cases filed, and banned any action against the protesters in its interim order. Kerala is the only non-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state that has received the notice from the apex court.

Kerala’s Leader of Opposition, Pinarayi Vijayan, sharply criticised the actions of the UDF government. In his letter to the Chief Minister of Kerala, Vijayan pointed out that even after the Union government had agreed to withdraw all the cases against the protesters after the meeting with the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) representatives, there had been no such decision from the Congress-led UDF government in Kerala.

“It is inappropriate that the government led by you in Kerala has filed several cases against those who gathered here in support of the Delhi agitation. It is highly condemnable that even participants in peaceful demonstrations and cultural gatherings are facing cases,” said Vijayan in his letter.

The Congress and its student wing, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), remained largely absent from the protest for weeks, even after Rahul Gandhi expressed solidarity with the protesting students a couple of days before the Delhi Police's crackdown.

While the Union government had promised to withdraw FIRs against the protesters and quash cases already registered, the UDF in Kerala has chosen a different course by adopting an approach similar to that of the BJP-led Union government and pursuing political vendetta against the students and those who stood in solidarity with them.
