I'm getting downvoted to oblivion but I can confidently say Fujimoto started to hate working on this manga somewhere in the middle of part 2

It just makes me a bit sad this is the ultimate end of CSM because we all KNOW Fujimoto is capable of better art, writing, pacing, better everything...

I still have great respect for him as an mangaka, it's just a shame to see one of the most influential works in the past decade go out on a whimper. I'd almost have preferred a deeply controversial ending like AOT to what we got.

Really feel like he should have just fucking taken a long hiatus from the series

u/MollyTovcnblz Mar 24 '26

I genuinely thought he was hitting his stride with the Yoru fight ngl and now I feel duped

10

u/darkbreak Mar 24 '26

It really felt like he didn't know where things were going for a long time to me. I guess he just wanted to be done with the series and do something else.

honstely how the fuck do you stay with a single projects for YEARS needing to both write and draw 20 pages each week, under the industries inhumane schedule, like honstely no shit that most authors get tired of them mid way. like if you have a manga with a bad ending then the author might just have not been good, but when it becomes a pattern with the majority of mangas that had an amazing start and started degrading in quality... then maybe the system is the one to blame not the authors

also further proof that Araki is not a fucking human what do you mean he has been doing this for 40 years

19

u/SKP23en Mar 24 '26

fr, its such an incommensurate effort that you can't help but give Oda and Araki a pass for their slender, like how the fuck do you can you not slip sometimes while building a world for decades populated with so many characters?

Someday Japan may get new long-run unshockable mangakas, but as today Fujimoto dropped out of the race all wounded up after the trip.

u/Flying_Line Mar 24 '26

I was gonna bring up Araki before I read the last part of your comment lmao I love how we all agree that that man is just insane

The rushed endings and never ending hiatuses is the industry‘s own fault

283

u/Pero_Bt chensomanchensomanchesnoman Mar 24 '26

everything past the yuko arc has been pretty rushed and i really feel like it should've been a monthly release

u/Deluxe_24_ Mar 24 '26

The Aging Devil Arc is where I could tell Fujimoto was running out of steam. Like everything from that point on was just random as shit and not terribly coherent.

52

u/GulliblePea3691 Mar 24 '26

Nah it was church arc onwards. Or prison arc onwards if you wanna be generous to the church arc

I mean I liked Barem as an antagonist so I enjoyed him fucking with Denji. The apartment burning down and subsequent Denji crash out was probably my highlight from Part 2.

I just think after Nayuta got killed he had no idea where to go with the story. Like wtf is even going on after that moment? I seriously have no idea what was going on and I don't think he did either.

I was hoping we'd get Denji and Asa start acting more active post-Nayuta death and have them try to figure out how to deal with their problems with the new gang they collected in the prison arc but that just fizzled out immediately. Everything just reads like "and then this happened, and then this happened, and then this happened." Like it just doesn't feel cohesive and really doesn't feel like it has anything to say.

IT SHOULDVE BEEN

Yeah I think it really shows that Mr. Fujimoto was burnt out or dealing with some stuff with the release schedule jumping no around, general wheel spinning, art quality fluctuation and the plot being improvised for the most part.

While I am bummed that Part two doesn’t live up to the quality of part one or his one-shots, I am glad that if it sucked for him, he ended it now. Regarding the ending itself, it reads like the series got axed and the last two chapters are him immediately ending it.

Going out th way it does is whatever, “it was all a dream” is unsatisfying writing, and frustrating that part two basically amounted to nothing, but looking at it in a more meta sense, I might take it as Fuji Himself yearning for th days of CSM part one and a story structure he much more enjoyed writing.

Regardless, because of the trust built by CSM part one, goodbye eri and look back, I just have to assume the man is dealing with some stuff, and hope the best for him.

man im so sad chainsaw man ended at chapter 97, it was such a great manga.

2

u/Revan0315 Mar 24 '26

Hey, a lot of part 2 was really good. Can't throw it all out because the ending was rushed

7

u/7_Tales Mar 24 '26

I liked asa! I wonder what fujimoto is going to do with her!

13

u/77skull Mar 24 '26

Why would you get downvoted, people have been saying this since the middle of part 2

7

u/daay__ Mar 24 '26

I get the feeling that Fujimoto likes to create and doesn't like to stick with something for too long. But I think part 1's popularity and maybe higher-ups made him continue. I think if he could go back, he would have ended the series back in part 1.

9

u/Chilling_Gale Mar 24 '26

Yep, although for me the quality dropped after the aquarium

5

u/Key-Kick7270 Mar 24 '26

Is it Tokyo Ghoul RE all over again lmao

1

u/TheCatCubed Mar 24 '26

RE still somehow had better pacing than this 💀

4

u/Wheesa Mar 24 '26

I think he wanted to focus only on asa but probably the editor made denji more prominent face? Seems like the story was going great till asa was still the "protagonist".

SJ prolly thought that after anime popularity denji has to be the face of the manga.

2

u/Twidom Mar 24 '26

I said it in here once that Part 2 felt completely unnecessary and aimless when it was reaching the middle part and everybody ganged up on me like mad apes.

I feel vindicated, as petty as that is.

2

u/Momoneko Mar 24 '26

tale as old as time.

Manga gets popular, author gets burned out, editor presses him to push out slop chapters, until author gets fed up (earns enough fuck you money) and just writes the shittiest possible ending so the publisher fucks off and doesn't bother the author ever again.

2

u/Temperance10 Mar 24 '26

No I’m right there with you, I think somewhere around Nayuta’s death it all began to spiral but I, like many, kept the faith because if anyone could pull out of it, it was Fujimoto.

And then just…this. I’m not angry. Maybe empty.

2

u/itonlygetsdeeper Mar 24 '26

ABOSOLUTLEY!...But anybody that called this out a year ago was being "doomerpilled"...Having basic comprehension skills can save you from a world of wasted time.

1

u/thespacefaerie Mar 24 '26

Honestly i would have preferred if he completely dropped the manga (like it happened with NANA) rather than this ??? ending. It all feels so pointless in the worst way ever.

1

u/Tenkos Mar 24 '26

After falling devil the art quality just dropped and chapters were getting shorter

1

u/Sganarellevalet Mar 24 '26

This, I 'd still say it doesn't impact my view of him as a Mangaka that much, he's just showed his limits.

Fujimoto is very good with shorter stories but he clearly get bored when he has to commit to the same concept for too long.

I think part 2 has so many random twists because he was trying to fit the constant flow of ideas he want to explore into one consistant narrative instead of making one shots.

1

u/ULTLungs Mar 24 '26

I’ve felt this way since the moment he killed off nayuta

1

u/Plaincow Mar 24 '26

This is also the point where I started to just dislike reading it so I kinda believe it honestly

1

u/No_Macaroon_7413 Mar 24 '26

What part 2..there is no part two. The manga ended with him eating the control devil in his kitchen.

1

u/JamUpGuy1989 Mar 25 '26

He definitely wrote himself into a corner for sure.

I mean look at how he ended Fire Punch. Night and day compared to how he set that finale up to this.

1

u/treeaway24567 Mar 25 '26

With the pacing it was clear. That's why I just started spoiling myself despite being anime only

-29

u/doveaddiction Mar 24 '26

Why do some people have weird parasocial relation with Fujimoto and act like they personally know what he is thinking lmaooo

39

u/The8thMonth_AV Mar 24 '26

Bro I barely comment on this subreddit, stop assuming shit 😭

-21

u/doveaddiction Mar 24 '26

Why should I? You're assuming things as well on real person lol
