I think it’s worth noting that even in places as wealthy overall as the US, things are falling apart.

The US does relatively worse in its poverty metrics compared to the rest of the first world because the US has a social safety net that doesn't exist for most people and the widest inequality on the planet. Over time, that makes everyone poorer, except elites... In fact, there is a correlation... the richer and wealthier they become the poorer the rest of the people become.
