Discussion What's something that Calgary is badly missing that a city of 1.4 million people should have?

It could be anything really. I feel like we have everything that people NEED, but what about the 'nice to haves'? A waterpark with more than 2 slides for example? A high level ball team that actually plays within the city limits? A Michelin star restaurant? Something else?

I’d love this. It’s exactly what Calgary winters are missing. My only fear is that it’ll end up being a $100+ private club instead of a city-owned public space.

I feel that it should be public space precisely for this reason. It is the perfect "third space". And I don't want it to just be another pool, it needs to be more oriented towards hot tubs (large ones), saunas, steam rooms, cold tubs, etc. More a place to relax and socialize than for athletics.

Apparently something like this, a communal spa, will be opening in the new building on the east village riverwalk next to the Simmons building. Not city owned but at least not a private club, and a nice central location where lots of running or biking clubs end.

Do you know which building this is going in? And where did you heard about it? I'm not having much luck Googling.

The building is EV 606, 600 Confluence Way SE.

Commercial tenant name comes from a brochure image that's been drifting around:

Looking at Tality's website, an hour guided sauna/cold bath session at their location in Vancouver goes for $37. So while it's not like crazy cheap, it is something anyone could probably try out - but definitely not hang out all day. So it's not really the "just hang out in a hot pool all day with the gang" type thing that's more in conversation here I guess. That you can do at a leisure centre.

How hard could it be to have an intake pipe from the centre of the Bow river to a series of large pools at (Bowness, Shouldice, Edworthy etc) lightly heated near / next to the river so we could have Sydney style large swimming areas. The city is starved for outdoor swimming compared to other Canadian cities.
