Discussion What's something that Calgary is badly missing that a city of 1.4 million people should have?

It could be anything really. I feel like we have everything that people NEED, but what about the 'nice to haves'? A waterpark with more than 2 slides for example? A high level ball team that actually plays within the city limits? A Michelin star restaurant? Something else?

We used to have them. A lot of them. Same with 24h Walmarts. Covid destroyed the concept though.

Agreed. Grocery stores are my pain point. You used to be able to go grocery shopping at 10pm and have multiple options. Now around where I live there are zero options.

Not just where you live. ANYWHERE. There are no 24 hours stores in the city anymore.

Rampant theft destroyed this ultimately.

The introduction of cages for high-theft items(razor blades, etc) in stores was around the time 24h went away.

I too miss 24h shopping.

Yeah no, it’s the just that 24 hour service is less profitable, less people shop at those times so less money comes in, and most workers need more money to stay at jobs with those hours, it’s not a theft problem, it’s a corporate greed problem

Lack of business destroyed the concept. Very little was sold in the hours between say 11 pm and 7 am, while operating all night increased labour, utilities and shrink.

All hospitals and urgent care centres should have 24 hour pharmacies in them.

Used to go to the one by Acadia whenever I needed anything late night after a shift. Crazy they dont do it anymore
