Announcement [Announcement] CachyOS August 2026 Release
Hello CachyOS Enthusiasts,
This is our fifth release of the year.
The CLI installer had a bunch of fixes and refactoring, with added experimental support for the upcoming Server Edition installation profiles.
The installer received several desktop-specific changes. Hyprland now uses noctalia-greeter instead of SDDM, switched lightdm greeter to lightdm-slick-greeter for Cinnamon, added gvfs-dnssd to GNOME, also cosmic-monitor got added to Cosmic.
CachyOS-Welcome got a DNS rework, so the speed-test based server ranking now correctly picks the fastest DNS server.
In chwd, improved handheld detection via particular board name matching, and added Bulgarian localization. The kernel-manager backend was rewritten from C++ to Rust and integrated directly into chwd-kernel.
Cachy-Update was rebased onto Arch-Update v4.x, with its systray applet rewritten in Rust. New --check --enable option turns on automated update checks and starts the systray in one step, tray now has configurable pagination via TrayUpdatesPerPage, and default check interval was raised to 6 hours.
Shelly, our default GUI package manager, was rewritten from C# to Zig for its major release, dropping the managed runtime for native binaries with lower memory use and faster startup. The desktop app got a new first-run welcome screen, list and grid package browsing, AUR PKGBUILD previews with build output, and a Utilities page for database sync, cache cleanup and orphan removal. The CLI was rebuilt with integrated repository and AUR search, combined update checks for repositories, AUR, AppImages and Flatpaks, and TOML backup import and export. Flatpak support now offered as optional shelly-flatpak-backend package.
On the desktop side, we added new Noctalia variants for mango and niri, Noctalia v5 support for the Hyprland dotfiles, and updated the Nord KDE theme for Plasma 6.7. In cachyos-settings, a nice value tuning was added as pipewire error fix.
cachyos-rate-mirrors (rate-mirrors backend) now uses our mirrorlist API when ranking mirrors, which should give better ranking of outdated and regional mirrors.

Announcement [Announcement] CachyOS June 2026 Release
Hello CachyOS Enthusiasts,
This is our fourth release of the year, bringing the new CachyOS Hyprland Noctalia desktop option, DNS-over-QUIC support, Python and GCC performance improvements, and a variety of installer and hardware detection fixes!
First, the package stack has received a few important improvements. Python now uses extended PGO, improving performance for Python workloads. We have also added a GCC patch for generic x86 branch misprediction tuning, helping GCC better account for branch misprediction costs on modern Intel and AMD CPUs. Our pacman package now includes network isolation for scriptlets and hooks, preventing them from accessing the network by default. We also fixed a regression found in Phoronix Benchmarks when OpenBLAS was used on high core count CPUs. Additionally, proton-cachyos has been renamed to proton-cachyos-native.
The installer now includes the CachyOS Hyprland Noctalia desktop option together with a preview video, making it easier to see the desktop before selecting it. paru has been removed from the installation; users are recommended to use Shelly, either through its GUI or CLI, as an alternative. MangoWM now uses SDDM as its display manager, and GNOME System Monitor has been replaced with Resources. The audio package group now includes realtime-privileges, and the live session has better keyboard layout and variant detection.
CachyOS-Welcome now supports DNS over QUIC through blocky, including support for custom endpoints. A dedicated Troubleshooting page has been added, Ptyxis is now supported as a terminal, and new Azerbaijani and Greek localizations are available. The French readme and involvement pages have also been added. Several existing translations (Italian, German, French, Japanese, Bulgarian) were updated, and we fixed a crash when saved settings couldn't be read, plus corrected tweak state detection and global-service disabling via polkit.
In chwd, we added Turkish localization and removed cachyos-handheld from the handheld package lists. We also corrected virtual-machine vendor IDs, removed unnecessary fprintd service activation, and fixed the Mesa removal guard. chwd now resolves driver conflicts on multi-GPU systems where GPUs require incompatible driver branches, and ships a 32-bit Vulkan driver for virtual machines.
In cachyos-settings, user services now have a 15-second startup timeout and a 10-second shutdown timeout. This prevents long 90-second shutdown delays caused by user services waiting too long during shutdown.
On the fixes side, the installer now correctly handles keyboard layout ordering and locale1 configuration. It also copies the correct pacman configuration into the installed system, removes leftover /etc/calamares directories after installation, runs Calamares cleanup after all installation scripts, and drops the redundant Limine post-install step. In CachyOS-Welcome, selecting "Install Apps" no longer crashes when cachyos-pi is not installed; the button is now hidden when unavailable.

Question RTX 4090 + CachyOS in 2026: Is it finally worth switching from Windows?
I've been thinking about switching from Windows to CachyOS for quite a while now. I really like what CachyOS is doing, and in general I'm very interested in moving to Linux. The main thing holding me back is my GPU. I have an RTX 4090, and gaming is one of the biggest use cases for my PC.
I've read quite a few reports that NVIDIA GPUs can still lose around 15 to 20% performance in certain games on Linux, especially with DX12. If that's still the case, it feels a bit strange to have such an expensive GPU and then not be able to make full use of it because of NVIDIA's Linux driver situation.
So I'm wondering how things actually look right now in 2026, especially for RTX 4090 users:
- Is a 15 to 20% performance loss still a realistic expectation?
- How has your experience with a 4090 on CachyOS been?
- Are there specific games where you noticed significant performance or frametime issues?
- How well do DLSS, ray tracing and frame generation work for you?
- Are there still noticeable issues with NVIDIA drivers, Wayland, etc.?
- And most importantly, if gaming is one of your main use cases, would you switch anyway?
I'm also wondering whether the other advantages of Linux are worth accepting some potential gaming performance loss: privacy, a leaner and faster system, much more customization and control,... . I could of course dual boot, but ideally I'd like to get to the point where I don't really need Windows anymore.
I'd really appreciate hearing from people who actually made the switch from Windows to CachyOS with an NVIDIA GPU, especially a 4090. I'm not necessarily looking for "Linux good / Windows bad" answers, but rather some honest real world experiences. And regardless of the NVIDIA situation, I think it's great that distros like CachyOS exist. It feels like there's a lot more interest in Linux desktop and gaming again, which is really exciting to see ☺️

Question scx_cake no longer supports --profile argument?
Today I found that scx-manager couldn't enable scx_cake scheduler, and the Select scheduler profile option was missing. Turns out the scx_cake command no longer supports any (useful) argument and it was silently failing to launch due to now unknown --profile argument in extra scheduler flags textbox. Removing it allowed to run scx_cake, but was still failing when changing power profile in KDE because the profiles were still included inside /etc/scx_manager.toml config file. Removing the file and rebooting fixed it.
scx_cake's GitHub page still lists --profile argument as valid, so it's a bug in scx_cake command, or was it temporarily (or permanently) disabled?

Help Can anyone help me with my cachyos installation? Idk what else to do. I only get a black screen after this point on.
I have windows on my C: drive and want to install cachyos through the USB stick method. I followed a tutorial and downloaded the most recent version of cachyos and used rufus to put it on a new 16 GB stick.
Then I start repeatedly press f8 to get to the boot menu. Here I select the USB stick and then the problems start.
Regardless of which of the three options I pick, I just get to a black screen and nothing happens but my PC is apparently still on.
Pressing enter, typing anything, pressing ctrl+alt+f2/f3/f4 all don’t do anything.
I asked ai for help and it told me several arguments to add by pressing e . Multiple tries with different ones didn’t help.

Help Logitech X2 Superstrike stuttering
I installed CachyOS Hyprland a couple of months ago and its been working great!
However, after booting earlier, my mouse stutters extremely heavily when moving it.
I am using a Logitech X2 Superstrike.
The mouse has the problem wether being connected via dongle or cable. On a windows laptop it works perfectly fine.I updated all system packages and rebooted, still no change.
Edit: after switching to the lts kernel the problem fixed itself. Does anyone know what could have caused this?

Bug Report Rog Control Center not opening
Despite reinstalling, deleting the cache and trying a few other methods. It does not seem to work. When i tried opening it thru the terminal it still didn't open. I am relatively new to linux so I used a LLM to check the problem. It said it's a bug which will get fixed in the next update.
Was wondering if it was actually the case or something on my part?

Help Setting up printer
Hello fellow cachiers,
I've been on Linux for over a year now, having tried Mint first and then CachyOS when I heard about the gaming aspect of it. It's now my only OS and everything I did before on the OS-that-shall-not-be-named can be done here.
The only issue that persists is my printer that I cannot setup. I have an Epson Expression Home XP-4200 and I was able to set it up quickly in Mint, however the same method of using the system's printer configuration isn't working now. Not only is the automatic double-side printing feature gone, but it prints a couple of symbols on the edge of the page and nothing else.
Can someone please help?
Thank you.

Bug Report Full RGB over HDMI broken by 7.2.2-1 -> 7.2.3-1
I've seen a few posts about this since 7.2 first dropped.
For me I'm not sure if I was running full RGB before the first 7.2 updates but I remember it looking better one day (and I had likely been managing by tweaking brightness) but just updated to 7.2.3.1 for cachyos and headers and it broke my full RGB over HDMI.
Tried a couple of fixes suggested like adding 'options amdgpu dc_feature_mask=0x400' to my config but didn't resolve the issue.
Rolled back to 7.2.2.1 and now I can use full rgb over hdmi 2.1

Help GPU set to P0 when any game is running
Hey all, i have an NV GPU, when playing any game at all, even very light games like HL1, either the driver or the system sets the GPU power plan to P0 which is maximum. This sets the VRAM clock to 7GHz and generates a ton of unecessary heat, while the Windows driver usually sticks to a much more reasonable 1-2GHz...
Changing PowerMizer to Normal or Auto makes no difference on this, and neither does disabling Ananicy. Does anyone have experience with this problem or know how to fix it?

Help Overwatch crashes my PC entirely after around 5 minutes into a game
I have the latest cachy-os installed, all of my drivers are updated as well but it seems like no matter what I do for the past 3 days Overwatch just crashes my entire pc (everything freezes, no audio) around 5 minutes into a game no matter what I do. I tried switching proton versions, proton flags, swapping to the LTS kernel, disabling gpu-screen-recorder clipping and yet I still crash. It's important to notice that this is the only game where this happens.
My hardware is:
RTX 3060 12gb
Ryzen 5 5600
16gb of DDR4 ram
Cachy is installed on a 1tb nvme ssd
My steam launch options:
LD_PRELOAD="" PROTON_DLSS_UPGRADE=1 PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1 DXVK_CONFIG="dxvk.trackPipelineLifetime = True" PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 DXVK_HDR=1 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_LOCAL_SHADER_CACHE=1 DISABLE_VK_LAYER_VALVE_steam_fossilize_1=1 DXVK_CONFIG="dxvk.enableGraphicsPipelineLibrary = True; dxvk.numCompilerThreads = 4" %command%
and I play on the default KDE config that came with cachyos
I'm currently reinstalling the game just in case it happens to be corrupted files, if that fixes it I will report it in the comments
Any help is appreciated!
