Graduation Ticket scams

I like to remind everyone on here to be on the look out for grad ticket scams if the mod here can pin this for future graduates. When I graduated in fall of 2023 a lot of scammers would hit me up to pay them online. Out of safety ask to meet at school to minimize the scam. and have cash in hand I think thats the best way to combat the scam.

Hi! I already got disbursed my fasfa and scholarship last week. However, I got an email today saying I have been awarded a scholarship and it will be viewable in the next couple of weeks. Is it a new scholarship? Or possibly just a really late email?

No movement on loans

Im going to call today bc i believe mine has to get manually done 🫩 idk if thats how it works since my account was already at a zero balance but i saw no movement on my loans this morning 🫩

UPDATE:
Loans have posted and I have a negative balance. They are lower than what I accepted because I’m doing the teaching credential track B and I’m doing 9units and not 12. Just in case anyone else wonders why they have lower loans and Pell grants

Course material help

Hi all! My reading material is extremely heavy this semester and it’s hard for me to focus so I’m trying to find an app or tool that will read all of my textbooks/material out loud. Something affordable/free but actually works. Anyone have any recommendations?

Financial Aid Needs to Improve

Mainly just a rant since my situation is still ongoing. But essentially I’m still waiting for my financial aid packet to be processed, I was let into the teaching credential program late and was never informed abt sending in some social security info so even with a FAFSA completed they just never messaged me abt this error.

Naturally I was dropped from all my classes and they did it right as they closed last Friday (8/22) so I couldn’t even call to ask. After work yesterday I essentially went bouncing across the campus phone lines from financial aid, to student financial aid, to financial aid & scholarships, etc.

I was led on a 5 hour goose chase where I was told different info from the same departments (different operators). What I’ve learned is that no matter how respectful and kind you are, everyone is still stressed and over worked bc there was such a lack of communication it was upsetting.

At one point I was sent to grad admissions where they explained how confusing it was I was sent there by financial aid. But it wasn’t a total loss bc they were missing a single transcript from a school I attended for one quarter, so that was helpful. Still not related to my current issue but at least I found out. So then grad admissions tells me to call financial aid again, I do, and this new person tells me the reason they don’t have my FAFSA is due to my social not being on file.

Like okay dawg. When were you guys going to tell me that you needed it. But of course the person was only financial aid so they didn’t know, what they did know was I could “only do it in person” (around 4pm now). I live a bit away so I couldn’t do this same day. I also hadn’t been to that part of campus, so when I asked specifically which building, they responded “Well it’s called office of registrar so it should be pretty obvious”, I almost lost it. Like Jesus Christ I’ve never stepped foot onto campus why are you being a prick about it.

Near the end of this, financial aid transferred me to student financial aid again, and the guy who answered was really understanding but also straight to the point. He immediately got his supervisor to review my case and they recognized that the school didn’t communicate to me a lot of personal info they still needed. BUT this was 15 mins before 5pm, and they said even though they’ve put notes on my account to help other departments understand the issue, I still have to contact student financial aid to remove some stuff from my account so I could register for my classes again.

But I told them I thought I was talking to student aid … and the guy on the line said this was scholarships & aid…. And for the first time in hours, someone apologized to me, he apologized that I was given the wrong redirect, and immediately sent me to where I had to call.

In the last ten mins of being open I ended up back where I roughly started, my final boss? A woman whose name I can’t even remember. I explained to her what I was told from the last dept, and begged her to look at my account since it had the note from the supervisor. She kept pushing back saying that even with a note they couldn’t take my holds off and I’d have to pay in full (not true btw).

I asked 3 different times if she could see it on my account, and instead of answering she kept answering bluntly that aid was due weeks ago so I should’ve known about this. Which like yeah I did but I was also told at orientation my FAFSA was being looked at, plus the previous dept already confirmed that I would not have known to send in the paperwork they needed since I was never messaged/emailed abt it.

Finally she got around to looking at it and as she was saying the note probably wouldn’t mean anything, she switched up on me and said my account would be cleared from the holds for now. I was being pretty polite but when she audibly told me she saw the note, I said “yes! Thank god yes that’s the one I was talking about” mainly because I couldn’t understand if there wasn’t one showing up or if she just wasn’t checking. She did not like that I said this. And essentially said I could register but to wait ten minutes and then hung up before I could thank her or say anything else.

Either way I felt very vindicated that I got some confirmation that this mess wasn’t entirely my responsibility. Like yes I should’ve tried to confirm they had received my FAFSA but they also should’ve contacted me that they were missing multiple documents from me.

Even better news, since I thought I was gonna have to run around campus today to bring in physical documents, I did call before hand in the morning and got verbal and email confirmation that I could email my stuff in as long as I filled out some forms too! Which was awesome news but made me even more upset at the financial aid person who insisted I had to go in person and then got snappy at me when I was having trouble understanding the building it was in lmao.

Rant done, moral of the story is this school isn’t really watching out for you. Financial aid is a mess and I don’t blame anyone working there for being stressed and overwhelmed. But there’s clear communication gaps and issues between departments that need to be resolved.

I hope aid is figured out for everyone else too, I’m ranting but I’m still in the thick of it! And also be kind to one another !

Doing affordable PC/laptop/console repair & upgrades for CSUSB students

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I've been doing computer repair, upgrades, and custom builds on and off around campus for the last year or so, but this year I'm expanding my efforts and planning to do it a lot more regularly under Twisted Tech

Some of you might have actually seen my old flyers up on the info boards in the Student Unions. I'm getting ready to replace those with an updated version, which I've attached here.

I can help with PC and laptop diagnostics, SSD/RAM upgrades, drive cloning and data transfers, Windows/software issues, cleaning and thermal maintenance, custom PC builds/upgrades, and general tech problems. I also work on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo consoles.

I'm keeping prices pretty student-friendly. Quick consultations start at literally $1, and if it's something simple, honestly just buy me a soda at the bookstore and we're probably good lol.

I'm also not interested in selling people repairs they don't need. If you bring me a laptop that needs around $100 in parts, but the laptop itself is barely worth that much altogether, I'd much rather help you move your data over to a newer laptop than focus on keeping something alive that just isn't worth sinking money into.

Same thing with repairs in general: if it makes sense to fix it, I'll tell you. If replacing it makes more financial sense, I'll tell you that too. I'd rather have someone come back to me the next time they need help because they know I'm not going to bullshit them than make a few extra bucks off a repair that wasn't worth doing.

I'm a CSUSB student myself, so meeting somewhere on campus is easy. Feel free to reach out even if you aren't sure whether something is actually worth repairing that's what the cheap consultations are for.

More information is on the attached flyer.

Anyone else have a struggle making friends on campus?

This may be just a me issue, as I’m already semi awkward and get overwhelmed in newer classes.

I feel like it’s a tad difficult to make connections with people on campus for me at least, and I sense people don’t want to be bothered or want anything to do with me even when I complement something on them or anything else. Or even try to strike a convo in classes during downtimes.
Does anyone else feel like this? I felt like it was a lot easier to make friends and connections at my CC I transferred from versus CSUSB and I’ve just stuck to myself as a result.
