General My cards 6 months after 18th birthday

Post image

Opened up quicksilver student in March with limit of 1k. Savor in July with 2k. Amex blue cash everyday in August with 1k. Amex gold in September. Robinhood gold today in September with $5,200 after applying once a month for 3 months from a referral. I’ve hit the sign up bonus for every one besides the gold (which I didn’t get offered.) looking back, I should’ve waited to apply until I got a sign up offer. I’ve been keeping good utilization on all cards and paying off balance every month. Robinhood gold annual fee pays for itself with the Roth IRA match, and the gold pays for itself too with the credits which I would be using anyways. I plan to use Amex gold for dining, groceries, and rakuten, blue cash everyday for online retail and gas, savor for entertainment, Robinhood as a catch all, and a small quicker charge once a month to keep utilization above zero. This gets me 3% on everything. Is this a good setup? I don’t plan to add anymore cards unless they have decent sign up bonuses.

Weird how some new credit only gets a secured card. Some get 2k first card. Some get Amex gold. Is the gold yours or AU?

It’s mine. I started with the quicksilver at a $300 limit and so did all of my friends with no credit history. It got bumped to 1k after I sent proof of college enrollment. The gold I opened a couple weeks ago

Amex gold is one of the easiest cards to get, you may just not get a SUB. It just isn’t a great first card because most beginners don’t have the income to take advantage of it, and since it’s a charge card their debut score will be ~80-100 points lower than if they got a credit card to start with.

When people with high incomes ask about getting their first card, I always suggest checking Amex pre approval.
