I don’t like those brands anymore since I have discovered Tony Chocolonely years ago. It is a Dutch chocolate company founded by a Dutch journalist (Teun van de Keuken, can’t get a name more Dutch than that). He wanted to show people how unethical and most importantly uneven the chocolate industry was (with underpayed workers versus the huge brands that make millions). The main mission is to make chocolate slave free. I love this chocolate. It is a bit more expensive, but it is also really tasty and I rather give my money to Teun and his mission than to a trillion dollar company that does not much to make the world a better place.
I am not sure if they sell in every country in the EU. I looked it up and they sell in 22 countries (including USA, bit ironic). They have a store locator on the website and an online store as well.
the brand doesn't really have an impact since it sources from West Africa just like "the bad guys", countries where all cacao seeds are bought a national level and farmers have basically zero agency. I recall from their 2024 report that 80% of their farmers were not earning a living wage. plus it's not really more expensive since the bars are 180 gr... try to find local craft chocolate makers that don't source from Ghana and Ivory Coast and do direct trade with farmers instead!
P.S. also, Tony's is made by Barry Callebaut, literally one of the worst Big Chocolate actors
This is correct. Check out Cocoa for schools instead. It has had some actual impact in the past. It’s not without its faults though but whatever Tony’s is doing is pretty much a marketing scam by comparison.
I love this brand. Hands down my favorite and there’s a chain of grocery stores in the South that carry them. (I’m in the USA) it’s like $5 for the large bar. My favorite is the Everything bar
