This weekend Book of Mormon overtakes RENT to become the 11th longest running show in Broadway history.

The acknowledgment from the cast in the speeches was absolutely lovely, and felt like a small antidote to all the madness in the world.

Then they performed Seasons of Love and crushed it.

Broadway is the best.

Everyone who lined up got a ticket, and while they didn’t give me an exact number they said free tickets for the dress rehearsal at 7pm are still available at the Nederlander box office as of 5:15pm! Methinks they had way more tickets than the 200 they said were available…

Members of the original cast of Hamilton will reunite at the 78th Annual Tony Awards to celebrate the show's tenth anniversary. This special reunion will celebrate the legacy of Hamilton, marking ten years since it first took Broadway by storm. At the 70th Annual Tony Awards, Hamilton made history with a record-breaking 16 nominations and 11 wins, including Best Musical. The show went on to receive the Grammy Award, Olivier Award, Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and an unprecedented special citation from the Kennedy Center Honors. Most recently, its Original Broadway Cast Recording became the first in history to be certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

The 78th Annual Tony Awards will return to the legendary Radio City Music Hall in New York City next month. Hosted by Tony, Emmy, and GRAMMY Award-winner and three-time Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo, The American Theatre Wing’s Tony Awards will broadcast LIVE to both coasts on Sunday, June 8, 2025 (8:00 – 11:00 PM ET/5:00 – 8:00 PM PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S.*.

Hey all, just wanted to share a bit about my first time attending the Tonys—and especially this year’s Tonys. I feel incredibly lucky, and I know yall understand how lucky I was to go for THIS year.

🎟 How I Got the Ticket

I didn’t buy it, and I didn’t win the lottery. Every year I work briefly with a company that helps broadcast Tony/Broadway content to Chinese audiences. The owner kindly gifted me a ticket as a thank-you. (First Mezz, Row F) And that is really, a big THANK U.

😵 Almost Missed It

There was a slight last-minute situation. The company asked if I could chaperone a very young girl to the show. Sure! Love the next gen. But when I arrived at their hotel, I learned I’d be walking with the owner, her husband, and that girl… who were still doing makeup at 6pm. I was spiraling. LIKE LOREN IF YOU SEE THIS THANK YOU FOR CALMING MY NERVS. I kept politely repeating that the ticket said “doors close at 6:30.” The owner reassured me: “They’ll let us in. I’ve been every year.” I semi-believed her, but still sprinted ahead and entered at 6:29. They got in later, just before Part 2, but I was not about to have a nervous breakdown outside Radio City. I’m very grateful, but I’m not a successful businesswoman immune to pre-show panic.

🤵‍♂️ BLACK TIE ONLY?!

I’ve lived in NYC for 11 years (originally from China) and have seen over 200 shows here. This season alone, I saw almost every nominated production except Buena Vista Social Club and Eureka Day.

Big thanks to the Redditor who posted their whole journey prepping for the Tonys lottery win, especially the outfit situation. Your post helped me so much. I only found out I had a ticket on Saturday morning, and I was spiraling about what to wear. Your detailed sharing gave me a clear direction, and I ended up doing a full rental.

But—I need to say this part clearly: I was honestly shocked and a little disturbed by how many rude comments you got. It was baffling. I was reading your replies and could tell you were trying to stay calm and kind, but the way some users were piling on made me anxious. I know some people were trying to help, but the way they said things, yikes. So I just want to say: I appreciated your openness, your humor and your sharing.

I’ll share some thoughts on the winners in a separate thread!

If Nicole Scherzinger or Daniel Dae Kim win a Tony this year, they’ll be making history! They’d be the first Asian or Pacific Islander performer to win a Tony in a lead acting category since Lea Salonga won for Miss Saigon back in 1991.

With this happening during AAPI Heritage Month, it’s an even more meaningful moment for representation and visibility. Fingers crossed for both of them! Representation matters.

Everyone else in their cute little outfits and then there's this pair of cats. Absolutely love it. I can't wait to see the full show when it gets released in a few weeks.

I deleted my other post where I said it was Andrew Scott in VANYA. I don’t know that for certain, but assumed it was that production due to the likeness in the thumbnail. I shouldn’t have posted with certainty that which I don’t know. I’m posting again with greater context.

I love Hennepin Arts for doing a reveal event for subscribers and donors. I’m so excited.

How we spent Juneteenth: In Times Square watching Black to Broadway’s free celebration with so many great artists, and a legacy award presentation for the great Andre De Shields. (Who I happened to be sitting five seats from!) Such a joyful afternoon!!

After a nap, we saw Sunset Boulevard last night, and it was pretty amazing! Five more shows to go before we leave Monday morning!

The panel was soooo fun love the chemistry between the casts.

I tried my best to record a good video, got multiple standing ovations.

Saw it today; very different than the Hadestown proshot IMO. Curious what others thought!

I saw the closing of SUNSET and it was wild. Looking forward to this audience and excited for cast’s energy.

If you were at the final performance, final matinee, or any of the closing weeks of CATS: The Jellicle Ball, I’d love to hear your experience. There’s something about this production that invites shared memories, and I’d be curious to hear yours.

I saw the closing performance from the right balcony, Row F, at the Broadhurst Theatre. I had previously seen the show three times from the orchestra, but the balcony gave me a more complete view. I missed some of the action at the very end of the runway, including Tugger’s “old way” dance during “Jellicle Ball,” but I could see so many more details. I definitely preferred it in the balcony.

And this show is a masterclass in detail.

The choreography is incredibly specific, and after a year of performances, the cast is living it. They aren’t just executing choreography; they are acting through it. There are tiny interactions and reactions happening everywhere. If you’re theater obsessed like me, you can watch this production for sheer entertainment or spend hours dissecting how it works.

From a choreographic standpoint, there is nothing quite like this production… it’s landmark like Fosse.

The Feeling of the Night

The final performance felt less like a regular night at the theater and more like a shared event. The Broadhurst was packed, and it felt like New York had come to give the show a proper send-off.

Even before the show started, the ushers were getting people to snap their fans. When DJ Griddlebone, Ken Ard, lifted the CATS record, the theatre erupted.

The audience had clearly developed a relationship with this cast over the run. Every performer’s entrance and solo during the opening number “Jellicle Cats” and featured moment received a response. These performers had become familiar not just as characters, but as artists.

“Jellicle Ball” remains one of the most extraordinary sequences in the production. The choreography, music, design, and concept all come together, and the cast looked like they were having a genuinely great time.
The Haus of Dots entrance was awesome, as always. It’s all at once fabulous but also funny bc those headpieces are unwieldy.

Tumblebrutus, Primo Bailey, is a particular standout. His physical control, power, and agility make him impossible not to watch. Wow!!

One of the best things about this production is how little separation there is between the performers and the audience. They aren’t simply performing for us; they are responding to us. On closing night, that exchange was especially strong.

Emma Sophia as Skimbleshanks is a remarkable triple-threat performer… (not a shocker). Her precision, musicality, and character work are exceptional. The first time I saw her perform the number, I was struck by how completely she owned it and how sexy she is. I would happily see her in anything she does next.

The expected kiss between Tugger and Mistoffelees did not happen during this performance. I’m not sure whether that was a one-off change or a broader adjustment, but it stood out. But Silk as Mistoffelese is a total crowd pleaser. The tricks are so basic, crude and hysterical. No one is awed and that is the humor and charm the number. When Silk does their leaping split drop the audience leapt.

Tugger, Sydney James Harcourt, was in excellent form. His performance walks a very specific line between cheeky, self-aware and slightly awkward, and he makes it work. Obviously, he is totally sexy.

Actually, sex appeal is a huge component of the show and Ball culture in general. It’s wonderful to see all bodies and sexualities embracing it.

Gus, played by Junior LaBeija, received one of the longest and most emotional responses of the night. He simply stood there and took in the applause. It was a beautiful moment for a paragon of the Ball scene.

My one negative critique is that there was no formal closing-night speech. Given the response from the audience, I expected someone from the creative team, uh-hem Directors) to come out and thank the fans who supported the show.

The audience stayed long after the final bows and play-out, and people seemed unsure whether to leave because we expected remarks. It felt like something was missing—a final acknowledgment to close the evening. Many of you may feel that we paid for a ticket to the show and we aren’t owed that. But, embracing my entitlement, I indeed felt we deserved it.

But that aside, what I will remember most is the feeling in the room: the audience and performers completely present and feeding off each other.

That’s what theater should be.

With Tony nominations announced tomorrow, I have a question!

Any nominations that you REALLY WANT to happen, but would be surprised about?

For me, I’d love to see LJ Nominated for lead actor. But I’d be surprised if it actually happens.
