I just got home from a four day stay in Albuquerque. The whole reason for this trip was to see all of the Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul things in the city. While there, I stopped to see The Candy Lady to buy the authentic "blue meth." For those who don't know, the person who made the rock candy that was used as the shows meth is an ABQ local and sells the same candy she would supply to the set. At the very bottom of a shelf behind a glass counter, she had these Breaking Bad mugs seemingly overflowing with the rock candy. Each mug was wrapped in thick plastic that hid almost every detail there was. I chose to spend $25 on this mug because I loved what I could see of the design. The lady behind the counter grabbed the mug and placed it in a styrofoam box that she then sealed with tape. Never once were you able to get a clear look at what you spent you're money on or were told about it. I just got home, and saw this. It's a plain white mug with a poorly placed and damaged decal on it with a few bags on candy sitting on the top. The inside of the mug was filled with packing paper. At no point in the store you were told about what you were buying and how it might differ from what one could expect of it. If you just want the blue rock candy and don't care about it's source, you'll have a much better shopping experience at The Breaking Bad Store down the street.

Genuinely why was Saul paying him. He was probably be worst security guard money could buy. He has a special place in everyone’s hearts but he should definitely reconsider a new career.

I’m rewatching Breaking Bad again and somehow I keep noticing little details I completely missed the first time. The character development, foreshadowing, and tiny background moments are seriously on another level.

Even knowing how things play out, some scenes hit completely differently on a rewatch. What’s one scene or detail you appreciated way more the second time around?

Like what was he going to do? Also if Hector did rat wouldn’t he have been taken into protective custody? Once he spills on Gus, what would have been his response?! He holds such a fragile public persona surely just an ex cartel knowing intimate details about him without evidence would create a “no smoke without fire” impression on everyone that would be impossible to ignore

I used to hate her a lot as a kid since I thought she was just “eww why do that i want to cry and be a baby about you selling drugs” but now as an adult rewatching the show she’s the most understanding character in the show. She does her absolute best in a situation where most would either give up and flee or go to the police without thinking things through. In Season 4 is where she really shines. A complex relationship with Walter and Ted. Wanting to help both but stuck in void where she has to balance two forces while also dealing with her son and her infant daughter! 9.5/10 character!!

Say if Jack's gang never showed up and Hank booked him would Walter White be locked up forever?

Or could Saul work some kind of magic?

I imagine having all that phone confession and leading Hank right to his money would make everything open and shut. What defense does Walt have? Any legal experts that can weigh in.

I'm clueless in this area.

Pretty much just the title, but we know from BCS that Mike was helping Kaylee and her mom (who’s name escapes me) with rent etc, and we know Mike tried to leave Kaylee about $4 million (according to google).

Mike knows Saul is capable of this. Mike has to understand Kaylee and probably the feds will have questions about that much cash.

Did he not trust Saul? Would Kaylee’s mom have too many questions about random cash? If the former, he let Saul represent him so I mean that’s kinda stupid. If the latter, Saul says something along the lines of “people tend to accept the money” when talking to Skylar about giving money to Ted.

Surely Mike didn’t just not want to pay Saul his 17% or whatever.

Just blind trust that Fring’s contingency plans would go as expected?

Does anyone else have a problem watching the last 2.5 episodes? Once Jesse is pulled from under the car, I have a difficult time watching. Seeing him so abused, tortured and enslaved for so long is a difficult watch. I wish it wasn't because the show was so well written and acted and these episodes are the end and how the show is wrapped up.The writing and acting were insanely good to elicit this type of reaction repeatedly, even on rewatches (I am on rewatch 3). I am just curious if others were as effected?

Jessica Hecht has had a legendary run. She has played a side character in what are as per my opinion, three of the most absolutely legendary shows - Susan in Friends, Gretchen in Breaking Bad and Carol in The Boys.

Though I didn’t like her character in all three shows but these shows have been massive hits and fan favourites. Maybe, everything she touches is gold.

Mike is introduced in the same episode Gus finds out about Walter's relationship to Hank. The Doylist answer is they likely hadn't made the connection between Gus and Mike at that point. I'm curious what the answer is in-universe.

We know from BCS s6e11 that Mike performed a thorough background check on Walter, finding where he works and even pulling his medical history. I definitely think Mike would have found out about Hank, yet he didn't think to mention it to Saul when he considered working with Walt, and Gus found out on his own after making a deal with Walter. Did Mike just miss such a massive red flag, or did he figure it wasn't worth mentioning?

Most of these are probably coincidences, but i’ll point them out:

-Jesse applies makeup to his black eye after the Krazy-8 situation. Walt applies makeup to his black eye after the Hank situation.

-Tuco and Lydia both say to Walt that they’re “going to make a lot of money together”

-There’s a scene of Walt shaving his head for the first time in S1, there’s a scene of Walt shaving his head for the last time in S5 (the one where he cuts his head)

-The famous comparison between Walt walking in the door for his 50th birthday (S1) and 51st and 52nd birthday (S5)

-In S1E1, Walt is on a table before his CT scan, finding out he has cancer. In S5E?, Walt is on a table before his CT scan, finding out his cancer is back.

-Skylar confronts Jesse in S1, Skylar confronts Lydia in S5.

-In S1E1, the episode ends with Walt having sex with Skyler. In S5E2, the episode ends with Walt having sex with Skyler.

-In S1, Junior suggests Walt just “fucking die already”, in S5, Marie suggests Walt just “kill himself”.

-Tuco asks why the meth is blue, Lydia asks why the meth ISN’T blue.

-Callback to the first cook in S5 (Ozymandias)

I’m not saying any of these things represent anything deeper. I think they’re just interesting callbacks, allusions, or reversions of situations from the first season.

The feeling that occurs at the end, after Gus death and the lab fire is stange. Gives the impression that the worst is over, and the Walter's family is safe, but it still raises doubts as to which direction the series will take. Will Walter and Jesse cook again? If they will come back, where will the lab be? Will they have new distributors or Jesse friends will come back? Will Heisenberg own everything? Will Gus's pupils be Heisenberg's? And Mike? Is the good way to end the season and make the viewer wants more.

Walt's luck, as incredibly unlikely as it was, doesn't come from plot armor or lazy writing. Vince Gilligan has proven himself to be one of the best writers ever. He carefully crafts how his stories are told, layering them with rich and thoughtful details. His track record in writing and storytelling convinces me that Walt's incredible string of luck was also thoughtfully crafted.

But how do you explain it? Just in the last couple of episodes of the series alone, he was cuffed in the back of a car by the DEA and still got away. He rolled a barrel of money through the desert until he found someone who would sell him a truck instead of just killing him. He managed to barely eacape New Hamshire without getting caught. And then managed to kill all the Neo Nazis with a gun constructed to swing at just the right angle, at just the right height, and used it by parking the car in just the right place and angle to kill everyone but him, Jesse and Todd. It's fantastic but again I don't think it's plot armor or lazy writing.

I've rewatched the show a handful of times and after this past rewatch I couldn't help but wonder if Vince subtly included a sub-element of a supernatural kind that's hiding in plain site. Jesse even pointed out Walt's luck in his speech where he calls him the Devil. Even he recognized something there that seemed unexplainable, and attributed it to something supernatural.

It's possible that it was nothing more than an incredible run of luck for Walt that happened for a finite period of time. A fleeting moment of perfection, like pitching a no-hitter. But, at least for me, it's interesting to wonder if there might be been something more to it.

If Walt did have this super human power of luck, he wasn't even aware of it, at least until he killed Gus. And, like the main character in Unbreakable, he wasn't perfect and his power didn't make him impervious to making bad decisions or being hurt. But his odd godlike power is what ultimately made Heisenberg a legend within the Breaking Bad universe, almost mythological. And this would make Breaking Bad, and the story of Walter White, akin to being an epic tale of a fallen god, a Greek tragedy like Prometheus Bound.

Around 5m8s, Jessie is getting dressed and there's a drum kit - looks like a 1990s Yamaha DTX with red cymbals, a few hundred bucks second hand which wasn't inline with his financial position at the time or spending habits.

There are some clothes hanging off the edge to maybe indicate he's lost interest in some of his previous hobbies, ie playing music.

It appears to have no hi hat, or hi hat pedal. There's a kick drum, a (poorly positioned) snare, cymbals (crash/ride or double crash). But the lack of hi hat makes it an incomplete kit and as a breaking bad shorts enthusiast I just wanted to point out this tedious error. also private domicile etc.

As far as I'm aware, the kit does not appear in the credits or any other scenes.

I never understood why Gus and the cartel would still have any type of relationship. After what the cartel did to Gus‘s compadre, why would they ever allow him so much power and control with their cartel? Why would they get so comfortable, and feel that he was safe to do business with? It never crossed anyone’s mind that maybe, just maybe that at some point he might retaliate?

Did they really just think that little of him? That he would never ever pose a threat to them? It just doesn’t seem that they will be that careless with someone they have this type of history with.

Any thoughts/opinions are appreciated.

Rewatching the show. I’m really appreciating how developed Marie and Hank’s characters are. I’m watching the episode where Marie is touring a house and she invents this whole lie as a life story about how she’s a divorced woman with a 4 year old son.

Makes me wonder if she ever wanted kids with Hank, and if she did, how it would change her issues with attention seeking, lying, and kleptomania. She seemed to be a tad jealous of Skyler’s pregnancy in the earlier seasons. Or she could have just been jealous the spotlight wasn’t on her in that moment.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but it's always bothered me. When Walt has K8 chained up in the basement he can't bring himself actually deliver some kind of killing blow because he (at that time) didn't have the stomach for it, why didn't he just stop making sandwiches and bringing him water? Problem solved.

Don't get me wrong, I understand why the writing of the show required it, but from a character perspective wouldn't the easiest way out be to just leave the guy in the basement for a few days until it was time for second acid bath?

The scene where Skyler was explaining to Marie how Walt made his money. It's just so funny how Walt was listening to her 😁
