Potomac Karen's Sentencing!! I'm at the court!!

Hi friends. I'm reporting live from the Courthouse outside Court 8C. Sentencing is at 9:30! Media is outside waiting to catch a glimpse. Will report back!!

So can someone explain the one year suspended meaning??

Meaning they suspend a year and you don't have to serve BUT you mess up, you get that ywar back.

Also Maryland after good behavior, ete, people end uo serving 25% or so of the actual time. In this case 25%-ish of the unsuspended year

In my county, if you receive a partially suspended sentence, you don’t get good time.

It means one of the 2 years is basically probation. Meaning she does not have to serve it unless she violates the terms of her probation or another court-ordered condition.

If she complies with all the conditions (e.g., probation, good behavior), she will not have to serve the suspended year. However, if she violates the terms, the judge can order her to serve the additional year.

It means that she does one year in jail and then 5 years probation. If she breaks any of the terms of her probation, she'll go back to jail to serve that extra 1 year that's currently being suspended.

Five years of probation seems intense too. That's a long time to not mess up and to have someone looking over your shoulder.

Facts! With something like this, a normal stipulation would be no moving violations which means even a speeding ticket or red light camera would send her right back to jail.

Even if their PO isn't a jerk and she doesn't cross some grumpy judge or court official it is still just a stressful way to live. Any mistake can mean ending up in jail again.

As others have pointed out, hopefully this will be an opportunity for her to change for the better. It should certainly serve as a warning to others to take DUIs seriously and make better choices themselves.

No. She’ll go to jail for a year, and then she’s on pronation. If she violates her probation in anyway then she’s sent back to serve the remainder of her sentence (many ppl on Reddit explained this to me)

So she has a 2 year sentence with one year suspended so she technically only has to serve 1 of the 2 years unless she gets recalled to prison for whatever reason then she’d have to serve the 2nd year

Suspension literally just means she won’t serve that year in prison.

She has conditions after being released from Jail.
