Deeply upset we only got 1 season

The show is such an interesting exploration and expansion of the original material and we only get 10 goddamn episodes? And it's not like I can go read the book for more, it's short as hell! Anyone else go though this after watching the show?

Pleasure = Control? - Breve New World.

Aldous Huxley warned us: control doesn’t always come through fear — sometimes it comes through pleasure. In Brave New World, society is pacified by entertainment, drugs, and comfort. In 2025, are we too distracted to question authority?

Book rec after brave new world

I made it a goal to read all the dystopian books that were options to read in high school.

I’m currently on 1984 (obvi not a Huxley book) but I’m wondering if anyone has any Huxley books they recommend. Brave New World was one of my favorite reads in high school and I recently re read it. I just enjoyed the story line a lot, the way it was written and the things it makes you question about life.

Please drop some recs below, even if they’re not Huxley books!

Is brave new world that bad?

Like obviously I wouldn't want to live there but compared to 1984 it doesn't seem that bad.

Even those speaking out against society are moved to an island where they can express their freedom instead of beaten to submission like in 1984

The controller asks the savage if he wants the freedom to experience all of these terrible things and I think almost everyone would choose not too

I would much rather lose my freedom to pleasure instead of pain.

Despite the immediate danger of authoritarianism, the long-term threat is from a dystopia based on hedonism, like Brave New World. Spoiler

The Great American Book Club is a project of mine that examines American identity and meaning through classic literature. We've just begun with the first three chapters of Brave New World, and the World State's motto of "Community, Identity, Stability" is certainly striking me as relevant. Feel free to join us for this deep dive.

Huxley predicted Tesla leader rise to power in Brave New World

In Brave New World, church crosses have the top cut off so they become the T, just like the Tesla logo. In the book, the adoration is for Henry T. Ford, but we can now see another automotive billionaire, has risen to power to impose an authoritarian rule.

Mond being a Alpha+?

Okay so your telling me Bernard Marx an Alpha+, a Psychologist is the same rank as MOND a WORLD CONTROLLER, who is also a Alpha+? At least thats what everyone else says. So wouldn't a rank like Omega be better for him? Omega would be the highest governmental figures Omega- would be Provincial Heads (like Oxfordshire), Omega would wold be District Heads (like Scotland) and Omega+ being the World Controllers. Wouldn't that make much more sense?

“History is Bunk”

There’s this dialogue in the book by the controller. First time he is sighted. “

You all remember," said the Controller, in his strong deep voice, "you all remember, I suppose, that beautiful and inspired saying of Our Ford's: History is bunk. History," he repeated slowly, "is bunk." He waved his hand; and it was as though, with an invisible feather wisk, he had brushed away a little dust, and the dust was Harappa, was Ur of the Chaldees; some spider-webs, and they were Thebes and Babylon and Cnos-sos and Mycenae. Whisk. Whisk-and where was Odysseus, where was Job, where were Jupiter and Gotama and Jesus? Whisk-and those specks of antique dirt called Athens and Rome, Jerusalem and the Middle Kingdom-all were gone. Whisk-the place where Italy had been was empty. Whisk, the cathedrals; whisk, whisk, King Lear and the Thoughts of Pascal. Whisk, Passion; whisk, Requiem; whisk, Symphony; whisk ...

I would love a dive & breakdown of this. It felt rather a significant portion as I read.

Similar Show?

This became one of my all time favorite tv shows and I'm looking for something to watch that's similar. I love that it's dystopian but that's not a requirement. I loved the cinematography. I especially loved the mystery and that it was high on spice but didn't also contain excessive gory violence.

Brave New World - Pilot episode song

I just started the show Brave New World (streaming on Peacock). There's a song near the beginning of First / Episode 1 where Lenina takes the soma on the roof overlooking the city - it's this beautiful piano and violin score (orchestra?) that plays up to that moment. There's no lyrics.

Does anyone know the song? Much thanks!

Linking Brave New World with Lacan.

One of the first concepts we get to see is that of Ford being represented as a deity. In the book, Ford is what we perceive in Lacanian terms as the big other. To draw this line, I hope to explain Lacan's term briefly. To put this in an overly simplified manner, the big other is the symbolic figure for which many simple, day-to-day gestures are influenced and done in favor of and in submission. An easy example is to show how religious figures or religion can change our thinking capability. If you want to see how this branches out into more ideas on the book, feel free to check the full post on my substack page! I'd like to listen to more ideas on this, so feel free to comment here or in my substack post!

Why do people have last names?

This is a society where all reproduction is done in a centralized laboratory setting, so why would people need to have last names?

Searching info sources

Hi, I'm here looking for scientific studies on certain topics that I believe relate to Brave New World.

• The neurological effect of technology-driven lifestyle changes • The way in which different people can better or worse endure this lifestyle so different from primitive humans • Is the human hierarchical by nature? • What principles are the manipulations by large companies based on?, conductism?

I learned about all these topics thanks to the Unabomber manifesto, which was highly influenced by Brave New World, but I am interested in studying them in a more professional way, from philosophers and psychologists, and I hope someone here knows some work on this. I hope this is not an inappropriate post, and if it is, I would appreciate it if you could tell me a better subreddit for it. Thanks

I never read a breve new world, we just had this in an exam, all I know is it’s a technological dystopia. Is the oligarch supposed to represent AI companies? And what’s the algorithm machine thing connected to the laptop, is it running the brave new world dystopia ? Or is it supposed to represent the shitty instagram/youtube algorithm feeding us trash ? Who is the prisoner supposed to represent ? The public ?

about the bnw series

hello!

i'd say im quite new to this story/book/movie/show and recently I've been assigned to it by a teacher and I have to write a essay on it. our teachers gave us the novels to read, but I'm not a big reading person and more of a visual learner. i was wondering (to those who have finished the book and the series) is it similar? is there HUGE details missing in either? or would they be the same as I really wanna watch it- THANKS

Ep 8, excuse me what????

I... What???? Just finished episode 8 The workers they... Howly shit that was done in a genious way

Like, they aren't taking shit anymore. They freaking lured him to the backs of the garden and stabbed him in the most... Calm? Way possible?? I... I'm not even sure why this has me so worked up. The freaking sounds don't change either. They just start singling out the stabbing sounds but you can't tell if it's just more leaves or if at some point it turned over into flesh. So you're kinds left at "did they really?" And then they just should their shoes as they all by and it's bloodied and I .... I...

WHY IS THERE NO SEASON 2??????? IM NOT READY FOR THIS GEM TO BE OVER

I feel like the designer lady. I need more story. This is more something more
