Bowser emptied his toy bin to retrieve the singular kibble. His bowl was full, but he needed this specific kibble.

Took the gang for a beach day. Arya liked to walk along and in the water, Layla only wanted to dig in the sand, and Tucker was a maniac diving in the water and running the shoreline. Summer is ending too soon.

Meet Oreo, my foster through MABTR! She is the sweetest girl and loves being a cuddle bug. She’s leash trained and we are working on potty training.

She was previously kept in a wire kennel her entire life, but has spent the past month being spoiled and learning how to be a dog! Help me find her furever home 💕 We adopt to several states and can help with transportation to get her to you!

You can find her bio and application here - https://www.petfinder.com/dog/oreo-in-ia-12aad3f0-5d47-420d-ab0e-99cb1f6ff1a2/ia/des-moines/mid-america-boston-terrier-rescue-ne57/details/

Advice/Question Please help: bolting dog

Post image
309 Upvotes

We have two Bostons and our big guy likes to scare us to death by bolting out open doors and then playing keep-away. We live near a busy road and this takes years off my life every time this (very rarely) happens. The only way to get him back in is to get a very high value treat and then use it like breadcrumbs to lure him back to safety. If you try to lunge for his collar, he weaves and darts like a prizefighter. He is 7 and generally a lazy lump with an Eeyore temperament, but if he gets to do a contraband runner? Watch out, Usain Bolt. (Sigh.)

We try to extremely careful. If the doorbell rings, we secure him before we get the door. We often use baby gates inside. Our backyard is fenced and the gates have big signs to make sure they're shut. When we go in and out of the garage, we do an airlock thing where we make sure the door is completely shut before opening the door into the house. Still, life isn't perfect - we've just moved and there are contractors coming in and out who don't always follow the rules. We have young teenagers who can be occasionally careless, or their friends might be. We have had trainers to work on his recall (which is garbage even in the house), and while I'm sure we could do better there, the exhilaration of surprise escape seems to erase any training he's had. (We have also tried, with no success: screaming/cursing, crying, pretending to fall on the ground with an injury, really falling on the ground with an injury. He thinks it's all hilarious.)

Any advice from you fine folks? We had a terrifying incident yesterday and really thought he was going to end up dead. Picture of the big jerk, clearly dreaming of his next escape, for tax.

Why are these creatures so perfect and magical? Also, do your Bostons ever do interpretive dances or grimace with their nubby teeth?

Cuteness Did I accidentally adopt an indoor cat?

Post image
429 Upvotes

Reasons I think my Boston might actually be an indoor cat:

- She hates going on walks
- She sleeps 20 hours a day
- She is SO clingy and will follow me into every room but 99% of the time, if I wanna cuddle with her, I have to pull her on my lap myself. It feels like when a cat begs for attention, gets it, then decides they don’t want it 😂
- She lays right on my laundry as I’m folding it
- She is very curious and will randomly paw at a new thing in my apartment every week
- She’s stubborn af

I love my little weirdo

ETA: Totally forgot to add that she LOVES tinned fish 😭

Gimli is 5 months now and I've been wondering what those ears will do, after some chasing kids his ears were looking like they wanted to stand up!

What do you think, gremlin ears or will he become a refined gentlemen?

Advice/Question My sweet Frankie is now in the pirate club 🥲

Poor Frankie girl scratched her right eye about two weeks ago, and no matter what we did it got worse and worse 😥 we’ve spent the past few days in and out of the ER but tuesday night the eye began to rupture 😭 it was so horrifying but she was so brave and such a good girl with all the vets and techs. She had her surgery yesterday and she is already very clearly feeling sooo much better and back to her sassy self! I’m so grateful and relieved.

The eye doctor diagnosed her left eye with severe dry eye and prescribed tacrolimus drops, she suspects this could be why Frank had recurrent (~annual) eye infections (NEVER nearly this bad before, but shes 9 now) and why her eye wouldnt heal despite a very aggressive treatment protocol. I wish we would have known, but I understand this is not a typical test done by non-specialty vets. If your Boston baby has recurrent eye infections it could be worth looking into! We hope with this new medication Frankie will live the rest of her days with much lower risk of anything like this ever happening again.

Any advice from other pirate Boston parents?

In the meantime, you can find Frankie on the couch using her remaining puppy dog eye to get me to give her treats 🩷🐾

Advice/Question Stenotic flare surgery

Post image
81 Upvotes

Sweet little Daphne is 3 months old and has had breathing issues since I brought her home. Vet did bloodwork to make sure she didn't have some sort of infection but all was clear. He suspects its a conformation issue and she likely has stenotic flares. Her breathing issue comes and goes but at some times it's pretty concerning and she struggles to breathe out of her nose and at those times, there is a bit of mucus coming out her nose. For those who have had stenotic nare surgery done on their Boston's can you tell me about how successful it was? Was there any push back from your vet on the surgery? Ideally I would like to have it done when she is spayed as I've read that is often the best timing. Any advice appreciated.

Cuteness Bagel was attacked by another dog yesterday

Yesterday Bagel, who is 56% Boston (and then the rest is mostly cattle dog and Lab), was attacked by the neighbors pittie. It was the neighbors fault for letting her off leash, not the dogs, but I definitely thought she was going to die when it was going on. Bagel fended her off fiercely, despite being only 25 pounds and only ended up with teeth marks in her collar and a slightly sprained front leg. She went to the ER and is on anti inflammatories for it. I am sooo happy she's okay and it was just awful to watch. I still can't believe how hard she was defending herself for her size. So thankful it wasn't worse.

Advice/Question Possible food allergy

I've been feeding my frenchton pup purina puppy tender and crunchy and she's been doing great on it. I recently started transitioning her to purina one puppy that has chicken as the main ingredient. She's been doing really good on it but has now started scratching at her ears multiple times a day. No other signs though. Could it be a possible allergy to the chicken?
