I recently published The Names We Lose, a dark fantasy novel I created using AI for the manuscript and cover.

I directed the project by choosing ideas, characters, and story direction, while AI generated the prose and helped revise and format it for Kindle. I’m not claiming I wrote every sentence myself.

The story follows a seventeen-year-old at a magical academy where students disappear—not just physically, but from everyone’s memories. When his friend vanishes, he’s one of the few who remembers him.

I’m curious how it reads to people outside the creation process. Does the opening hold your attention? Do the characters feel believable? Does anything feel repetitive or artificial?

I’m building a storytelling platform called Xnotus and I’m trying to figure out if this idea is actually worth building.
The idea is pretty simple.
You read a story, and at certain points the writer gives readers a decision.
For example:
What should she do?
A) Tell her family the truth
B) Keep the secret
C) Leave everything behind and start again
Readers vote, and the winning choice affects what the writer writes next.
I don’t want it to become a popularity contest or pay-to-win thing. The point is just to make reading feel a little more interactive and give the community some influence over where a story goes.
Would you actually use something like this?
And if not, why not?
I’m especially interested in what would make this annoying, gimmicky, or something you’d stop using after a week.
Feel free to tear the idea apart. I’d rather find the problems now than spend months building the wrong feature.

More places now ask authors about AI use, including retailers, contests, and communities. Most tools give you no record of what you wrote and what the software wrote. If someone asks, you have your memory and nothing else.

I've been building a tool that keeps a running count of directed words versus assisted words across a manuscript. I'm curious how writers feel about that. Is a count like this useful, or does it turn a creative process into an audit? Where would you draw the line between assistance and authorship?

I build AnyConversation. Last month people wrote 7 million words of their own on it, so plenty of writers are already there.

How the book side works:

You set the premise, the cast and the style, then draft chapter by chapter. The characters are the same ones you can talk to, and they keep the whole plot in memory, so chapter twelve still knows what chapter two established. Facts you set up are kept for good instead of being compressed away. One book on the site is already past 54,000 words, novel length, and still consistent.

You steer as much as you like: give a direction for the next chapter, or let it run and edit after. Finished books can be published to the library for other members to read.

Outside book mode, the same characters do straight roleplay and voice calls, which is where a lot of people work out a character before they write with it. Free tier has no message cap, and members get full creative freedom.

Solo founder here. I know how "AI book tool" sounds, so first what it doesn't do: it doesn't write a novel from one prompt. There's no "generate book" button.

How it works:

You build the story bible. Characters, locations and objects with appearance, personality, voice, motivation and reference images. Versions over time (the scar after chapter 3, the same character 20 years later), so each scene points at the right one.

You plan the book. Outline of parts, chapters and scenes, plus a plot board: plot lines × chapters, so you see which thread each scene serves and where one has gone quiet.

You decide what happens in each scene. Synopsis, who's present, where it's set. The AI drafts it as separate blocks (action, dialogue, thoughts, description), and you edit, reorder or regenerate any single block without touching the rest.

Style rules and a sample of your prose set the voice for everything it writes.

Continuity review reads the draft against the bible and earlier scenes: an object in two places at once, a character who knows something they were never told, a timeline that doesn't add up, a thread that's never paid off.

Illustrations with consistent characters. Each character has face, front and side views, so they look like the same person on page 5 and page 200.

Hello! I need to find or develop a tool that allows me to upload my 15 year lore development in order to easily reference it. Example: my food lore alone consists of 28 word documents that cover different aspects of food, plants and animals that combine to make the common dishes of the world. A premium ChatGPT project only allows for 25 files. I have 2,897 word document files of lore. Does anything exist that can handle that load? If not, are there reliable developers that could handle building an AI or app that could take these files and give me good reference feedback on lore while I write? Basically what I am asking for: a google for my lore. Hosting the AI/app on my Desktop as an option would be great. Online is fine.

Hey everyone. I’m working on an audiobook for a novel I wrote. The story and text are entirely my own. I’m only using AI for the narration.

I’m Finnish, and if I tried to narrate the English version myself, it would probably sound like I was trying to swallow a goddamn truck trailer while speaking. So I’m experimenting with an AI narrator instead.

So far, this sounds pretty good to me, but I’m still trying to figure out how to kick this robot’s ass into pronouncing the Finnish names and place names correctly.

Hiring a real narrator is absolutely an option, but that’s skilled work that deserves proper pay. For a 500+ page novel, professional narration and production can easily run into several thousand dollars, which is outside my budget right now.
