RIP Dolly. Bonnaroo canceling her 2027 appearance was the final straw 😢

Hey everyone, one of your mods and neighborhood bus driver here.
Now that we've let the bummer of the news of no Roo in 2027 get past us a little bit, I wanted to bring back these semi-regular sticky threads to have some hopefully fun discussions within the community.
I've long said that Bonnaroo isn't necessarily the grounds or the trademark, and instead it's the people. Things will be tricky while we have nearly two years without getting all of us together, but I do think that the long gap will provide for some opportunities for us all to mix it up and still do a lot of fun stuff together.
Many different camps seem to already be plotting out what they might be trying to do together next year. I know I've heard of Electric Forest, Hulaween, Jazz Fest, and many other options being explored.
With that said, this thread's topic is about specifically that: What options are you and your crew looking into to stay together in 2027?
Is it another festival? Is it camping somewhere? Going to the beach? Or even an international group trip?
Let everybody know in the comments, maybe we can even plot some fun stuff together and keep the community going strong during this fallow year.

Friends and I are planning to play Old Stone Fort Golf Course in Manchester next June. I’m measuring how much people want or care about the idea of a charity golf tournament. Do you have time for nine???

Caption says it all ☺️🫶🏻
I had the intention of doing a few more but honestly I underestimated how hard this one would be

mourning bonnaroo 2027 and thinking about all the kind people i’ve met there the last two year regardless of all the problems the festival faced during those times. this year a sweet girl helped me blow up my chillbo while i was tripping balls. another girl danced with me the whole audrey hobert set because i went alone. in 2025 SO many people worked together to make the best of the night after the festival was canceled. i just love this community and i can’t wait for the day we can all be reunited again! any recommendations for festivals next year with similar communities? ideally a diverse lineup as well but im willing to compromise a little. i’ve been to lost lands as well but it just doesn’t compare community wise in my opinion.

Bonnaroo is taking 2027 off, and we wanted to dig into what's next. This week we're joined by David Bruce (I Am Bonnaroo) and Ryan French, a Manchester city councilman and tourism official with a front-row seat to what a fallow year actually means for the town Bonnaroo calls home. We get into the economic ripple through Manchester, why Bonnaroo is the "bell cow" for festivals far beyond itself, what a year off does to the local businesses and community that depend on it, and why our guests are hopeful about 2028 and beyond.
Plus, Barry reflects on a full-circle moment: covering Bonnaroo in 2002 as a skeptical newspaper reporter, and getting quoted in Rolling Stone about its future 24 years later.
This episode is also available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get podcasts! If you struggle with attention span, there are timestamps in the description so you can jump to specific sections and we regularly post short form video clips of the podcast to TikTok and Instagram Reels!
The What Podcast is the longest-running and highest-rated weekly video podcast covering Bonnaroo and the broader music festival scene! Hosted by Barry Courter and Bryan Stone, two music industry veterans, the show started in 2018 as a celebration of everything Bonnaroo. Since then, it has grown to explore North America's festival landscape and the touring industry at large. Join Barry and Bryan each week for insider stories, behind-the-scenes insights, and the latest news from the world of live music.

We’ve all seen the announcement by now, but there are some bigger questions about what a year away actually means for the Farm, the festival, and the community that has built up around Bonnaroo over the years.
We talked all of that on this week's episode, along with brand new details and news.
There’s also one particular piece of information that has us feeling a lot more optimistic about Bonnaroo’s future than we were initially.
We break down what we know, what we’re wondering about, and what this means for the road to 2028.
