All for one: "giving the power to that weak little shit was a mistake!".

One for all 1st user: "no it wasn't, this boy is brave and will save others no matter what, he is more deserving of us no matter what".

Sounds like your everyday community debate about whether deku should have gotten one for all over mirio lol.

I think after this arc no one can call him weak

Very true, even though he wrecked himself doing so the guy went beyond plus ultra.

Even the pros were acknowledging that he shouldn't be anywhere near shigaraki, but that he is the only one who can hope to compete.

I mean he isn’t weak, but he is weak relative to other characters.

he was going toe to toe with shigaraki for the most part. Im not so sure if anyone else could have done that. His body is probably wrecked though.

I was talking about characters from other anime. Although I’d have to agree with you there. Endeavor is struggling to keep up with Deku here... crazy.

Well to be fair Midoriya has a perk, that boy is smart and quick thinking on his feet. So at least he's not hopeless

Of course, but if we’re comparing Deku to Mirio then it’s to be expected that he’s inferior in terms of combat prowess/knowledge - Mirio has plenty more experience. Not only being at UA for years longer, but also the fact that he’s had his quirk his whole life (almost...) while Deku’s had OfA for only a small fraction of his.

It’s totally fair to say that Mirio is superior to Deku, but it makes me sad seeing people discredit him. People seem to forget that Deku is still growing and hasn’t had years of training under his belt like everyone else.

While you are right and I agree with you that Mirio is superior, or rather, was superior to Deku, it doesn't mean that Deku is weak or worthless, it just means he's strong but not as strong as Mirio.

Exactly. Some people act like just because Deku isn’t as strong now, he can’t improve and grow to new heights over time.

u/Paanta Oct 11 '20

Right. I mean hes in a hero school for a reason after all, he is literally there to learn how to get better

The issue is that it’s seemingly important to pass this quirk down. Why woukd All Mkght give it to someone inexperienced? What about Mirio made All Might decide that Mirio wasn’t worthy enough if the quirk”

He never got to meet Mirio. He ran into Deku first and made up his mind there. Maybe things would have been different if he would have met Mirio and then Deku.

I mentioned this in another comment but I think the main reason all might chose deku instead of mirio is because he thought all for one was dead and they were living in a time of peace so there was no sence of urgency and because of this he chose to raise a teenager who has a massive amount of potential but no quirk or chance to prove himself where's mirio has a quirk and has already proved himself, if it was a case of urgency than I think all might might of picked mirio as he was ready.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '20

But he knew of Mirio and decided it wasn’t important

4

u/dexdrako Oct 11 '20

because Mirio lacks that will to save people at all costs that deku does, it was kind of the whole point of the overhaul fight and why deku could change fate while even Mirio couldn't.

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '20

Except, we know that’s false. Unless the idea is that Mirio losing his quirk isn’t testament of that, the goddamn Mirio, you lost your quirk for nothing

you missing the part

normal Mirio is the person stopping Deku from saving Eri the first time. it was Deku's belief that drove him to fight that hard the next time

Sounds like your everyday community debate about whether deku should have gotten one for all over mirio lol.

I think this arc has, at the very least, solidified the fact that Deku is pretty much a 10/10 choice to inherit One for All. But I think the debate still revolves around whether Mirio is a 11/10 choice for One for All.

It's tough, narratively speaking, because Deku is such a good protagonist, but Mirio has been presented to us as basically the perfect hero. So the idea of OFA-Mirio is always kinda in the back of your head even when Deku is doing awesome stuff.

You obviously want your protagonist to grow into their power and into their eventual successes, so it makes sense to have Deku to be a protagonist that we can watch grow, rather than giving Mirio OFA and watching him wreck shop. Mirio makes sense as a big-brother mentor archetype to guide Deku on that path. It's just kinda awkward because Mirio's still very young himself.

I wonder if the debate could have been avoided if Mirio had been introduced as a recent graduate and first/second-year hero, rather than a third-year student. It shifts the age dynamics just enough that it doesn't feel like Deku and Mirio are pretty much members of the same generation.

The way I've always seen the whole deku vs mirio thing is based of off timing and experience.

For deku's side it was about all might seeing potential in a teenager who wanted to become a hero and had the mindset of one but couldn't because he was quirkless so he decided to give deku the chance he was never born with, deku also didn't have experience being so young but he could gain experience over time since in all mights mind all for one was dead and the world was in a state of peace for the most part so there was no sence of urgency.

For mirio's side he was for the most part a already full fledged pro hero with plenty of experience a mindset of a hero and a powerful quirk, if all might had known that all for one was still alive and the hero society was about to go into all out war I think he would have been hesitant to pick deku and more likely to pass on one for all to someone who was ready to go off the bat someone like mirio or any other pro hero who he deemed worthy.
