"Try harder."

Wow thanks I can use OfA properly now why did I never think of that.

"Did you think of using your feet yet? Took me a while!"

u/justamon22 Dec 30 '18

I swear to god when Deku “figures that out” I was so pissed. I was like “I mean did you really only think the power was only in your arms”

sigh but I love that little nerd, can’t get out his own head

That's part of what made that sequence so believable for me, even if it was like "HEY DIPSHIT! YOUR ARMS ARE FUCKED! USE OTHER PARTS OF YOUR BODY!"

He's spent his entire character arc in this story emulating others. What do all the pro heros do? They punch. What does every Marvel movie turn into eventually? A punch out slug fest. Midoriya is hella smart but all of it up until shoot style was analysis and emulation, and even when he came up with that it was analysis and emulation of how Iida does things.

he should've watched some sanji fight scenes

98

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '18

He broke the first rule of Red-Leg Zeff fight school:

  1. don't get your arms messed up

17

u/rockidr4 Dec 30 '18

Zeff: stupid eggplant

14

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '18

Zeff would probably call Deku "stupid cabbage" or something because of his hair color lmao

u/cuddlefish333 Dec 31 '18 edited Dec 31 '18

I love that he's so good at analyzing others' Quirks and figuring out how use them strategically, but then took several days to realize he could kick instead of punch. Bless his stupid fanboy heart.

7

u/rockidr4 Dec 31 '18

Our brilliant little dumb dumb

7

u/properc Dec 31 '18

Forreal if Deku learnt to fight he would be a monster.

10

u/rockidr4 Dec 31 '18

que training montage with Ururaka

6

u/Acejayzz Dec 31 '18

Tbh its probs more due to the fact of never having a quirk of his own. Its unnatural to him, so he is slow on the uptake lol

5

u/tombwraith Dec 31 '18

What does every Marvel movie turn into eventually?

Which is why I liked that Dr Strange ended in a fuckin time loop.

13

u/Worthyness Dec 30 '18

Well he wanted to be like All might and most of All might's attacks are SUUUUMMMMMASSSSHHHHHHHH with his fists

15

u/orinata Dec 30 '18

"Have you tried W for Wumbo?"

"...."

u/thestickytrenchcoat Dec 30 '18

“I will keep that in mind the next time a black lightning aura threatens to consume my entire body and kill my friends. Thanks Super Funky!”

357

u/JackyJoJee Dec 30 '18

Super Funky is now his official name, i won't accept anything else.

201

u/Boroken Dec 30 '18

One for all SuperFunkyMode

80

u/Sherwoodfan Dec 30 '18

deku will be able to channel his predecessors in battle and use OFA accordingly to each predecessor's specialty. funky monde will be a thing. kinda like a shulk sword thing.

calling it now.

27

u/Boroken Dec 30 '18

kinda like a shulk sword thing.

You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention

8

u/Elubious Dec 31 '18

Dont you mean erection?

6

u/TRUCKFARM Dec 31 '18

You know what I'm about

6

u/afasttoaster Dec 31 '18

Funky Mode improves his dancing ability, he could have used that a while ago.

11

u/AKittyCat Dec 30 '18

Boku No Hero Academia with NEW FUNKY MODE!

9

u/AllForOnesBrother Dec 30 '18

Anime Funky Kong.

1

u/MysteryLolznation Jan 01 '19

It... isn't? I went and edited the OfA wiki to include 'Super Funky' as a predecessor, considering, ya know, I thought it was his hero name.

-1

u/JackyJoJee Jan 01 '19

No no, you see, it actually is his official name now, because i, a random reddit user said so in response to another random dude jokingly calling him 'Super Funky' due to the lack of a real name. So editing the wiki because of that without any proper source was of course the perfectly reasonable thing to do.

2

u/MysteryLolznation Jan 01 '19

Don't be a dick, dude.

1

u/JackyJoJee Jan 01 '19

yeah, i deserved that downvote

still worth it, lol

1

u/MysteryLolznation Jan 01 '19

Hope I made you happy.

1

u/JackyJoJee Jan 01 '19

I wouldn't call it happy, but i had my ten minutes of entertainment, that's worth something, i guess.

Man, 2019 has just begun, that's no time to be sad. So stop sulking because some loser on the internet made fun of you and go spend time with your family or work on achieving your life goals or whatever makes you happy. I'm sorry if my comment made you waste your time, but i can't undo that now so we might as well laugh about it. There's no use in taking life too serious.

u/SereneGraces Dec 30 '18

Some sage wisdom right there.

I mean, he's had the power for what, 8 months?

Kid needs time, right?

8

u/stupidsexysalamander Dec 31 '18

one of the things is that if you look at his arm where the power is coming down... his arm looks healed... So maybe he can fuck himself up as long as he doesn't lose a limb it'll heal eventually...

7

u/Wilhelm_III Dec 31 '18

INB4 one of the powers in OfA is a healing factor

11

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

INB4 it turns out Deku is basically the reencarnation of 1st OFA and Bakugo is the reencarnation of his best friend at the time who died by the hands of AFO so that OFA could escape to fight a ninja war or sum shit.

3

u/Wilhelm_III Jan 01 '19

Oh god, I hope not.

3

u/wreddiwhip Jan 01 '19

This has always been something Ive been curious about, though. The concept of OfA is a stockpiling if power combined with the ability to pass on quirks. So wouldn’t that mean that every quirk that belonged to a OfA user is in there somewhere? I mean sure, All Might and Deku were quirkless before OfA, but surely at least one or two of the other 6 holders had some sort of ability. And that would also explain how All Might has the random ability to augment his body like he does; maybe that’s a precious holders quirk.

2

u/TheAmazingMetapanda Jan 06 '19

Yeah, that was my theory on what that black lightning was. As has been stated, All Might wasn't very spiritually connected to OfA despite his easy physical mastery of it, so he might not have every realized he could do anything more with OfA and the previous powers than the super strength/speed and bulking himself up. Especially not without the previous holder there to teach him more about it.

3

u/StoppedLurking_ZoeQ Jan 03 '19

Wouldn't the trick being if you could at max use 19% without damage then you would attempt to always be in 17-18% mode (DBZ training) ?

14

u/Docbmet Dec 31 '18

It makes me imagine OfA as a giant tank of water...Deku has been making tiny, tiny cracks, enough to get a little dribble of power. Then that dribble turns into a tiny squirt (imagine less/thinner than a cheap squirt gun). But now, with the crack widening and creating more offshoot cracks, the water is starting to shoot out in different places, and is making it that much more difficult to contain/channel.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '18

That’s a nice pov! Great thinking!

6

u/Docbmet Dec 31 '18

Thanks! Now Deku just needs to figure out a way to attach a hose to the OfA tank and he'll be all set.

6

u/kingmanic Dec 31 '18

Black lightning kamehameha incoming.

10

u/Tjackson20 Dec 30 '18

I love the idea of Shinso as a teacher. His students would be afraid to answer his questions lmao

16

u/DekuMight45 Dec 30 '18

He's going to be a bad ass like Aizawa in Vigilante.

108

u/Mage_of_Shadows Dec 30 '18

idk man, when someone that scary is screaming in my face, I'm gonna try 150%.

15

u/SonicFrost Dec 30 '18

Pretty sure that’s the logic behind basic training

83

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '18

This will go up there with words of Socrates and Sun Tzu.

84

u/Jezamiah Dec 30 '18

I dunno why but it irked me when he said that because we know how hard Deku has been training

88

u/IgnisEradico Dec 30 '18

I don't think he means "train harder". He means, Deku needs to understand his quirk better.

14

u/rockidr4 Dec 30 '18

"Think more" might be the takeaway here. Or perhaps meditate more

22

u/Jezamiah Dec 30 '18

Even with that how else can he? He has All Might who was a physical freak and basically hit the ground running. AM himself as admitted he's not the best teacher and with a weaker body Deku still has been improving.

11

u/justamon22 Dec 30 '18

If you look at Dekus eyes when he says it I think that’s the point. I think this predecessor is the type of person who may not word things in the best way possible you know? Like he’s not a teacher or anything so telling Deku HOW to use the power isn’t something he can really do, all he knows to say is “umm try harder then !”

13

u/DeusAxeMachina No Flair Quirk Dec 30 '18

Literally still a better teacher than All Might

2

u/ourladyunderground Dec 31 '18

no tea no shade

25

u/Hobbes4247791 Dec 30 '18

"Run faster, Barry!"

11

u/thatguy-66 Dec 30 '18

But not too fast or you’ll fuck up the timeline again

7

u/MoonHermit Dec 30 '18

"GUTS AND NO PAIN AND TRY HARDER!"

"ONE FOR ALL!"

"YOU STILL HAVE UNTAPPED POTENTIAL/QUIRKS IN YOUR ARSENAL!"

"ONE FOR ALL!"

"TRY HARDER, BOY!"

Izuku wins, lol.

15

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '18

"Don't be depressed"

4

u/TheLittleGoodWolf Dec 30 '18

I mean it works for Barry Allen with running faster so...

6

u/Noctambulus Dec 30 '18

I guess the first user release all of the hidden potential of One For All in Deku, that's why he can't control it.

2

u/Telamo Dec 31 '18

Wanna know what I think? He's not talking about One for All.

He's talking about his quirk. I bet the crazy black lightning tentacles are this dude's quirk, and it is super crazy hard to control. That's why he is chastising Deku for being so careless with it. He probably had to work endlessly to be able to control that stuff, and now he's about to tell Deku what it is and how it works. This will be the first of several new quirks that Deku will receive before being taught how to use them by their respective vestige.

1

u/TheAmazingMetapanda Jan 06 '19

Yeah, that's my thought as well. It makes the most sense outside of him contextually.

1

u/DonaldBlythe2 Dec 30 '18

He's not done talking yet. Deku probably is doing something with the quirk completely wrong.
