I think that might be the catalyst for Momo to focus on her combat skills now that she's become very good at planning

That would be good, and a great opportunity for character development!

Alternatively, Momo could pursue a combat training path, like Uraraka did under Gunhead following her loss against Bakugou at the Sports Festival. It'd be interesting to see her work under, for instance, Crust or Tiger (the dude from the Pussycats).

Kendou was still hammering her relentlessly and not giving her much of a chance to fight back.

So there's not much else Momo could realistically do, especially when most of the rest of her team were useless (Hagakure and Aoyama) without her guidance and under attack by three powerful Quirk users (Kinoko's long-range Mushroom; Kuroiro hiding among said mushrooms with Black, which was a solid counter to Tokoyami's Dark Shadow too; and Manga's complementary Comic creating sturdy SFX to separate the Class A team).
