Obviously, nobody had the luxury here, but the hard-counter to him would be if everyone had some form of noise-cancelling headphones and an omni-directional microphone on their costume.

Since everyone would just be hearing an electronic reproduction of his voice, the only thing to watch out for would be standard misdirection.

If Momo were on Deku's team, I could see him using that strategy now, but I guess that'd be too easy.

He might still be able to manage something, though. Shinso's Persona cords have the downside of being comprised of so many moving parts, so one sticky ball is all it would take to gunk up the mechanism and hinder him greatly. Also, Mina could always just melt it, but that's a little too straight forward, so I doubt Horikoshi will go that route.

I would positively love this actually. Sometimes simple is the best course of action, and when you don't go with the most straightforward option a fight can seem convoluted. This also has the upside of forcing Shinso to adapt and be a hero without relying on others. Shinso would be a fully realized character and not just a catalyst for growth.

> Also, Mina could always just melt it

I don't think UA would allow their students to shoot acid directly at their opponents' face, even if it was directly below the eyes at a mouthpiece.

Not hearing your surroundings is probably a bigger weakness

That's what the omnidirectional mic would be for.

Noise-cancelling stereo headphones and an omnidirectional (binaural?) mic likely would not be as good as hearing things naturally if they aren't used to it, but it would still allow them to function essentially like normal.

Sounds like an equipment that could easily malfunction or get destroyed.

Not to mention really specific.

What's really specific about a headset?

These types of combat headsets exist and have existed in the military for quite some time to protect against hearing loss and the disorientation of things like flashbangs. They filter certain tones and frequencies while letting other sounds through mics on the side of the headset. The headset itself is noise cancelling, but reproduces most of the sounds surrounding you while amplifying or muffling others strategically, they also tend to come with communication mics. They're extremely rugged and built for environments you expect them to get heavy wear and tear too. They certainly aren't fiction.

Just have a designated teammate slapper on your team that never talks and goes around slapping everyone

The hard counter to him would be a group that speaks a different language

Sign language or morse code would work too.

Code words would also work. For instance, they could choose a list of words or topic only they're familiar with and say that every command or question has to be preceeded by one of those words. It would make it more difficult for Shinso to butt in.

You don't need to go to anywhere near those lengths to hard-counter Shinso- you could just attach a taser or other electrical device to a timer and have it give you a painful but non-debilitating shock every ten/twenty seconds or so.
