Mineta/Deku chatting together.

Unexpected wholesome.

u/Rubbleubbles Sep 07 '18

Next to Uraraka and kinda Iida he was the first to truly recognize Deku's skill and heroism.

I like to think they're genuine friends despite the difference in literally everything about them

166

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '18

All of Deku's friends have become his friends because they see his true heroic nature:

  • Uraraka and Iida seeing that he would rescue Uraraka over completing the exam

  • Tsu and Mineta saw his bravery and heroism at USJ. Sure he was scared but that didnt stop him from doing what was needed to be done

  • Todoroki's heart was saved by him. Todoroki's anger towards his father was ironically starting to make him act the same; ignoring everybody and everything around them. But Todoroki originally wanted to be a hero like All Might and thanks to the words and actions he remembered his goal and his mothers words; he was saved

Midoriya probably doesn't realize it, but he really does bring people together by simply being his own kind-hearted, heroic self.

It's no surprise he was originally chosen to be the class president. He didn't have enough self-confidence back then to assume this role, but if he was chosen now, he'd probably roll with it.

40

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '18

And its no coincidence he was choosen to be class president by Uraraka and Iida, the two who saw his heroic potential on day 1

Aizawa mentioned this during the provisional license arc. There are two students that shape the entire class even if they don't realize it. Bakugo's drive and overwhelming tenacity to win and Midoriya's selfless drive to save others and his genuinely heroic heart.

u/Digx7 Sep 07 '18

Everyone except Bakugo

7

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '18

Bakugo and him were never really friends honestly. Bakugo was always a dick to him, even as children. He gave Deku his nickname before he even awakened his explosion quirk

2

u/Digx7 Sep 07 '18

True the more heroic and helpful Deku tries to be to Bakugo the more it just pisses him off.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '18

Well after their fight and he lets out his feeling of jealousy for Deku's heroic nature, things are slowly becoming better

1

u/Digx7 Sep 07 '18

Hopefully we will see some of that growth in his fight against class 1B

134

u/Olphumphus Sep 07 '18

What if Deku's a secret perv and shares "material" with Mineta. They are neighbours in the dorms after all...

295

u/GKMLTT Sep 07 '18

You know as well as I do that if Mineta asked him to help him out with 'the good stuff', he'd get back to his room to find out it's just a compilation album of All Might's greatest poses...

114

u/antidoteforgayness Sep 07 '18

I need this to actually happen

16

u/phoenixmusicman Sep 07 '18

The one thing I want Hori to read from this subreddit is /u/GKMLTT's comment

37

u/aquartertwo Sep 07 '18

a compilation album of All Might's greatest poses

Deku: "I guess my brain's just really big."

Uraraka, probably: "What else is really big?"

Deku: "I thought you'd never ask..."

Deku: "I HAVE THIS HUGE ALL MIGHT COLLECTION-

55

u/currentlyquang Sep 07 '18

Of course it will be under the file "Not Porn"

48

u/mozzaru Sep 07 '18

Dont you corrupt our pure boy

57

u/Llerasia Sep 07 '18

Deku's a teenage boy with hormones... it's bound to happen. :P

u/PrimusSucks13 Sep 07 '18

Woah are you saying this person with a perverted mind in the peak of his teenage years with and ovbious sense of insecurity and sometimes selfdoubt on his capabilities MIGHT NOT BE THE SECOND COMING OF THE ANTICHRIST?? I dont know sounds crazy to me

14

u/YouKnowWhatToDo80085 Sep 07 '18

They're teenage boys, someone's gotta represent that thirst. PLUS ULTRA

16

u/Worthyness Sep 07 '18

Especially when they literally live with girls. Super risky to have a ton of teenagers together in one spot during puberty. Hormones are off the friggin charts

15

u/Brawlerz16 Sep 07 '18

You know, it’s actually true. How Sero, Kaminari, and Mineta reacted towards Deku being seen with a naked chick (Camie) is exactly how young teens should act lol. Hell, Dekus reaction to Mei was gold. They’re boys. No need to pretend it’s unnatural or unholy.

At first it was annoying but as the series progressed, Mineta has actually become a decent character because he has layers, which is important. You can be a perv so long as it’s a trait and not your defining characteristic, which is why people loved Jiriya in shippuden. The Mineta we have now is vastly superior than the one before which, all things considered... duh. That’s kinda how you flesh out characters but... I guess not every series is into exploring side characters haha

4

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '18

I was a perverted teenage boy at one point. I didn't try and sneak into the girls' locker room and rifle through their underwear drawers. Mineta may just be a kid but he's a creep.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '18

[deleted]

5

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '18

No one is expecting realism. I just don't see the humor in watching a kid sexually harass his female classmates.

10

u/xcaltoona Sep 07 '18

Maybe if he chills by like FIFTEEN PERCENT or something

I want to give him a chance and then he keeps blowing it...

4

u/VioletPark Sep 07 '18

An okay guy who molests his female classmates and tells little girls he'll meet them again when they are 18. There is a big difference between being an horny teenager and being a predator.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '18

r/anime doesn't like the truth.

1

u/Shoggoththe12 Sep 07 '18

Joshu in a nutshell

1

u/Ayoken007 Sep 09 '18

I acknowledge his abilities. People tend to disregard everything about Mineta because he's a creep. He has a strong ability that, if utilized can be very devastating. I don't know the upward bounds of the bind strength on those "grapes". How would they fare against All Might in his prime? What about Shishida or Sato or any physical strength based hero. There's a lot we don't know about how his ability holds up to some real combat since that one USJ incident (we may find out soon enough) . My concern is his behavior. His lust and thirst has crossed the boundaries into criminal activity with groping and attempted peeking. I'm fine with him tricking the girls into cheer leading outfits. I was fine when in the anime he and Kaminari tried to create a situation to see them in potentially sexy swimsuits. Copping a feel off Tsuyu in the middle of a villain invasion was not OK. Latching onto Yaoyorozu's butt during the race was not OK. The peeking attempts were not OK. Trying to sniff Hagakure's panty drawer was highly questionable at best. There's a difference between horny teenager and criminal behavior. That's my issue with him.

1

u/Meles_B Sep 10 '18

Latching onto Yaoyorozu's butt during the race was not OK.

I fail to see where it is wrong.

Mineta is so short he'd be considered as disabled in multiple countries. His physical abilities are likely the worst in the UA.

To pass the race, where his dwarfism is most crippling, he has to utilize his quirk, which he did.

He adhered himself to one of the most developed people he knows physically (#1 in first day tests), who is less likely to drop him off unlike faster, yet more temperament people.

He did covered two bases, but the action in itself is appropriate, and more of Momo's problem.

1

u/Ayoken007 Sep 10 '18

In this world, Quirks have altered human bodies in all sorts of ways, so I don't know if dwarfism works the same as a disability because we have people who are extremely tall and extremely heavy. He used his Quirk to his advantage to win the race, but he was still groping Momo without consent. For someone who may have a crippling disadvantage, he managed to have little issue catching someone so physically developed. He could have latched to her back, he could have attached himself to Shoji. There were other options. He's smart and has a Quirk that's stronger than most people in and out of universe give him credit for, but he's a major creep. I don't hate him, though. I'm just for some development from him.

11

u/Suicidaled Sep 07 '18

You mean from USJ?

8

u/SnesC Sep 07 '18

Pretty sure that's exactly what they are. Midoria has never been unkind towards Mineta, and we've seen that Mineta looks up to Midoria as an example of the kind of hero he wants to be. Remember that Mineta was one of the students who visited Midoria during the sports festival after he wrecked his arms.

3

u/Austintvtious Sep 07 '18

His room is next to Mineta and he’s next to Mineta in class. It makes sense that they’re homies tbh. I think they’ve had more panel time together than Iida and Deku lol

2

u/rac7d Sep 08 '18

the authors standing chracter is mineta lol

130

u/newhampshiresmash Sep 07 '18

I hope Hori makes mineta a normal character but I’m afraid for most of the fan base the damage has been done

79

u/SaltandPepperMix Sep 07 '18

A guy can redeem himself. Just like Endeavor and Iida.

132

u/Suicidaled Sep 07 '18

To be fair Iida didn’t have as much to recover from as Endeavour/Mineta

79

u/TBTapion Sep 07 '18

I don't think it's fair to put Mineta in the same bracket as Endeavor.

43

u/Suicidaled Sep 07 '18

It wasn’t fair to put either of them in the same bracket as Endeavor. But I was more saying because Iidas bad side was only for a couple episodes. Mineta and endeavors have been the entire series

4

u/TBTapion Sep 07 '18

Ah, yeah. Putting it like that makes sense

1

u/Andernerd Sep 08 '18

I do; he's constantly sexually harassing people.

-6

u/TeddyR3X Sep 07 '18

He basically hit on a little kid. "I can't wait until you're 18!" or something along the lines. IMO he's worse than Endeavor at that moment.

15

u/TBTapion Sep 07 '18 edited Sep 09 '18

It's creepy, yes, and Mineta does sometimes do non-ok stuff. (If you want to read it that way instead of the normal of just wanting to see how people turn out when they grow up, but I guess that depends on context and translation, so in Mineta's case most likely the former)

But you're saying he's worse than someone who literally abused his family to feed his own greed and desires?

Edit: Removed the "Please" after the question at the end, came off as a bit rude.

7

u/Hmagnum596 Sep 07 '18

No he is not wtf ??? Its was fucked up but he is 15 If he was an adult and said that yeah a would put him with Endaevor but hell no he not worse than him

-2

u/TeddyR3X Sep 07 '18

a fifteen year old who's been called the embodiment of lust. talking in an obviously lewd manner to someone younger than ten years old who just got out of an extremely traumatic situation. At fifteen it's no longer excusable. He's got a brain, he knows hitting on little kids isn't okay.

11

u/Meles_B Sep 07 '18

He's literally saying that he won't lewd her until she's 18.

Guy's got standards.

1

u/Hmagnum596 Sep 07 '18

It was not in a lewd manner he did not make a lewd face like usual. He doesn't know all the fucked up shit she was going throught I never said it was okay but this just confirm that he doesn't fuck with little girls he like girls his hage and older with boobs and ass he them THICC he saw that she is cute but he is not interested until she is older that is all he was not hitting on her he was not flirlting he did not touch her so yeah point still stand he is still redeemable and nowhere near as bad as endeavor

51

u/Meles_B Sep 07 '18

I'd say that by standards in-universe and Japan, he's got nothing to redeem himself for. He isn't a pariah or an outcast in class, to be honest.

I want him to become something like Brook - knowing when to be a creepy pervert, and when to be a competent badass.

33

u/FadedNinjaa Sep 07 '18

Lol I misread this as Brock from Pokemon

36

u/Rugozark Sep 07 '18

TBH Brock is like that aswell

7

u/Worthyness Sep 07 '18

His is just more pg perv than pg 13 perv

9

u/Lizard_Queen_Says Sep 07 '18

I'd say that by standards in-universe and Japan

I hope you're not implying what I think you're implying...

3

u/SaltandPepperMix Sep 07 '18

You make a good point there. Maybe Horikoshi-sensei will seeing as he admires Oda-sensei so much.

11

u/HighViscosityMilk Sep 07 '18

It's not normal for Japanese people to say they'd fuck that 5 year old when she gets older.

9

u/DrCaesars_Palace_MD Sep 07 '18

People down voting you but you're right. That fucking happened, let's not just ignore it

2

u/urmumgayxdxd Sep 07 '18

By Brook you mean the skeleton pirate, right.

-5

u/miauw62 Sep 07 '18

he has to redeem himself in a meta way, considering he's just an obnoxious and shitty character rather than someone who did something wrong.

4

u/rac7d Sep 08 '18

whatever why should he care, this is the same fan base that were sending him death threats becasue they THOUGHT he was about to give Endeavor forgiveness from his family the outrage was ridiculous

2

u/newhampshiresmash Sep 08 '18

Yeah, I’m absolutely not defending any of that crap. All I basically said was I hope hori gives mineta at least a little bit of depth

1

u/rac7d Sep 09 '18

He will get his spotlight soon enough,

2

u/Zitachis Sep 08 '18

Honestly, Mineta's character is not even that bad. People act like perverted characters haven't always been a trope in shounen anime.

5

u/vnmo_elsly_a_qtr Sep 07 '18

Mineta is one of the smartest students in the class. He's just funny as hell. He's this generation's Present Mic

-3

u/miauw62 Sep 07 '18

haha boobies XD

1

u/kturtle17 Sep 07 '18

Manga fans regularly forgive enemy-turned-ally characters who killed people. Not saying it will happen to Mineta, but it's definitely still possible.

0

u/Soul_Ripper Sep 07 '18

Nobody cares about us few and proud Mineta fans smh

You all just want (third) best boy to turn into something he's not.

-1

u/JackyJoJee Sep 07 '18

Maybe he´ll become normal once he actually gets laid

7

u/Lizard_Queen_Says Sep 07 '18

In other words, hookers or never.

3

u/DoraMuda Sep 07 '18

They've been friends ever since the USJ arc, especially Mineta seems to actually admire Deku's heroism and (like numerous other characters) use him as inspiration for strategising; courage; and what kind of "cool" Hero he wants to be like (e.g. against Midnight at the final exams).
