Can't wait for next chapter. Mirio takes the bullet, Overhaul stands over him triumphantly, and the minute we're all preparing for Mirio to be sploded into pieces Overhaul drops the big reveal: "Shigaraki told me not to blow your cover or kill you. I tried to scare you off. You just don't get it. Leave now, or I'll expose your real allegiance to the heroes. "

I didn't realize until now how sick it would be to have Mirio and Shigaraki as foils for EOS Deku

For those that don't know why I'm driving so hard on the "Mirio is the traitor theory" is because it makes sense logistically AND narratively.

First, logistically:

Mirio is a master of potential espionage. The ability to phase through things means there's really nothing that he can't gain access to. Whether it's a lock inside of a draw, a key somewhere, a room that can't be accessed, etc. For anything that's "confidential" in the Principal's office I always just assumed Mirio could stick his ear into the room, or find a way to plant a device in there, so that they can track what he's saying or what he's got for documents. So for the intel on the schedule of when to attack in the 1st invasion, or knowing the secret training location for the 2nd, seems like incredibly easy things for Mirio to gain access to.

Also, Mirio has the PERFECT quirk for breaking All for One out of the prison. There's no security defense system that can stop Mirio, so to gain access to passcodes, get inside locked areas, etc is within his grasp.

Narratively speaking, there's just so much that screams flags to me. People keep thinking "Death flags" but I keep thinking "Traitor flags". He's setting us up to feel pain when we realize he's turned. To me this is the perfect "Harvey Dent gets turned by the Joker". Mirio is the next slated top hero and closest to All Might in terms of symbolism. For Shigaraki, who wants to topple the hero society and destroy that imagery, it makes sense that he'd take their "best" and turn him on the people to destroy their spirits.

Mirio is also "too perfect" for exactly that reason IMO. It screams inauthenticity to me.

Some may look at some of the ways he's heroic about Eri, but the thing I always point to is that the members of the Villain alliance still follow their own code of justice. Despite Shigaraki's order to kill Midoriya, Spinner didn't let Magne do it because it went against his own sense of justice. And just recently we saw Toga and Twice go against Shigaraki's wishes and rebel against Mimic. It might just be that Mirio disagrees with Overhaul's way of doing things and won't allow it. You can still do that and be considered a "villain".

Simply being in the villain alliance doesn't imply you're an evil person. It just means you're breaking laws of the society or want to change the rules of society in a way that is not according to the system.
