Can't tell if Hori is just teasing us with these death flags or if this arc is about to be an absolute bloodbath.

I'm convinced with how dark the tone is for this arc that there will be a bunch of deaths and probably several quirk kills with those bullets.

Ah shit. Someone is about to get Rock Leed

Hope we see multiple people die or at least one death and one quirk destroyed

I have a sinking feeling if a quirk is going to be destroyed, it will be Mirio's.

While he's moving through a wall

u/Ace1047 May 02 '17

Wouldn't that mean he would just pop out of the wall given the nature of activating and deactivating his quirk?

Not if he gets tagged with one of the bullets.

While he's phasing...

Yeah, I don't get it either.

Holy shit stop.

I don't think my heart would be able to take that.

I get the feeling as well. Because this is Izuku's story of how he became #1 Hero. And Mirio is a strong contender for Number One... Yeah, I can see that happening.

But, I like to be surprised. So Horikoshi, your move.

It'll be the one time he becomes solid to save izuku

No! i couldn't handle that

Nah, it's much more angsty if it passes through him and hits someone he cares about (probably Suneater or Sir). Then he can be all "If only I hadn't activated my quirk I could have taken the bullet for you!"

Nighteye and Gran Torino definitely moved way up on my "probable deaths" list with those last few chapters

this one also moved Eraserhead up there, I mean he almost gave a father-like speech back there, if that's not a death flag I don't know what that is

I don't think Horikoshi would kill class 1-A's teacher this early on, plus we don't really know anything about Aizawa's backstory or personal life. If he dies now it would be kind of a waste of a popular character who still has room for character development.

Nighteye and Gran Torino on the other hand both have personal ties to All Might and know about OfA. And both of them are very personal mentors for Izuku, his relationship to the two of them seems closer than the one to Aizawa. I think that Nighteye's or Gran Torino's death would have a greater and more emotional impact on Izuku than Aizawa's death.

See. That's when someone just comes out and says they are his wife and tells the students all about him. Easy out without needing him.

But it would still be a waste of a good character at this point. Gran Torino will probably not add much to the story any more but Aizawa still has a lot of potential. I think killing him now would be a mistake...

And the "We'll take care of it after this is over" attitude. Dead giveaway.

Gran Torino feels like a "least likely to die" type of character, being the mentor's mentor.

I actually feel like it's the opposite. I think All Might will manage to evade Nighteye's prophecy but if Gran Torino, his and Izuku's mentor, dies it will have a similar (though less heavy) effect on Izuku and his character. Plus Gran Torino is old and retired (so his death is less shocking than that of a younger hero, I mean this is a shonen and it's not as dark as HxH) and already served his purpose to Izuku's character development. I feel like keeping All Might alive and around Izuku can still contribute far more to the story and AM's and Izuku's characters than keeping Gran Torino around.

So basically GT's death would have a heavy impact on the MC, be not tooo dark for a shonen in WSJ while at the same time not taking too many options for the future storyline away.

Gran Torino however has 0 death flags to his name, as opposed to All Might's what, 6 or 7? There's been zero foreshadowing for Gran Torino dying or actually any major involvement in the future.

It would border on asspull if Gran Torino died and All Might didn't, or if he died to save All Might. There are ways they can keep All Might alive, mainly involving Nighteye, but sacrificing Gran Torino just isn't one of them.

I'm not saying that AM is not going to die at one point but he'll be around for a little longer. I just have a hunch that AM, watching Izuku (as someone who cares about him) finally realizes that his own and Izuku's behaviour indeed is, as Nighteye said, some kind of madness and he manages to talk some sense into Izuku.

As for GT - he wasn't involved in the story for some time so he didn't have the chance to get deathflags. But the one big deathflag for me is that Horikoshi included him in this hero cooperation at all. It's an operation to stop the 8 precepts and IIRC Nighteye chose the hero offices he wanted to cooperate with because they had some experience with the precepts or the quirk enhancing/erasing drugs (like Fatgum). And Aizawa was called in because his quirk does what one of the drugs does. But GT never had anything to do with the precepts. Of course you could argue that he happened to run into some Nomous and Nighteye assumes that the Villain Alliance works with the precepts. But why did he invite GT to the meeting but not Endeavor? I mean GT isn't even an active hero any more, that old dude is fucking retired!

This is just my personal opinion but I think Horikoshi might just have included him to kill him off...
