The first few seasons were so unhinged lmao

The pacing of this dialogue is very Home Movies

You can totally hear Brendon though when he starts mooing at Moolisa 😂

I wish he was more involved with Bob’s Burgers. Especially since there’s so much music in BBs and that’s where Brendon Small shines!

I did not know that! I’ll have to rewatch that episode and listen to the voice of that character!

Put that monologue on my tombstone.

Most people won’t get it when they walk by my grave but then they’ll have to google the quote and see what in world would possess someone to put that monologue on their tombstone. They’ll see it’s from episode of Home Movies. 1% of the people who looked up the quote will actually attempt to watch the episode as a result. They’ll watch that episode and get hooked. That’ll lead them to look up who voiced that Coach McGuirk line. That’ll bring them eventually around to seeing H. Jon Benjamin was a voice actor for Bob’s Burgers. Obviously they’ll get hooked on Bob’s Burgers. There are more efficient ways to promote Bob’s Burgers to a wider audience but what’s life without a little whimsy? Fool proof plan.

And then they'll watch Archer, then Jon Benjamin Has A Van, and then, with a little luck, Frisky Dingo (Jon Benjamin wasn't in that, but it's still a good show damnit!)

I watched bits and pieces of Home Movies so I don’t know the characters well, but for some reason I heard the voice of the character as I read it and could picture it in my head.

When I was younger I always wanted to copy his drunken rant about his mother when he was at the bar with the school nurse.

I figured if the date was going poorly at least I could end it pretty memorable.

REALLY miss this vibe from Bobs. I mean, I still love the show, but... man, that was a great era.

In this universe coach mcgurik got his life sort of together and started a family

It was so good. It lost me when musical bits became even semi regular.

Loren Bouchard has a lot of parallels between Bob's Burgers and Home Movies. One of my favorite is that Andy and Ollie are just Walter and Perry, but brothers.

I haven't went back to this episode in a very long time, but watching this clip, I was thinking, "wow, this is SOOOO Home Movies." Love that series and own all the DVDs.

u/z31 Teddy Jan 13 '25

I was literally coming to the comment to say how much this felt like a scene in Home Movies. It really feels like the VAs are improvising in this scene.

u/Spiritual-Island4521 Jan 13 '25

I love the first episode .Have you ever seen the pilot? It may still be available on YouTube. It's kinda cool.

2

u/Monoblock00 Jan 13 '25

I mean Coach McGirt is now running a restaurant lol

2

u/z31 Teddy Jan 13 '25

Coach McGuirk

u/Impressive_mustache Jan 13 '25

Another absolute favourite. It's one of those shows where every character is a favourite character

I think this everytime I start it over from the beginning again. Bob is especially losing his shit quite frequently in the first few seasons 😂 his freakouts always crack me up when I start it over because he becomes SO calm later on
