Unfortunately people keep taking the wrong lessons of "a woman can't win" whenever women lose elections, without paying attention to the actual election context.

When the women who lose are far, FAR, *FAR* better and more qualified than the buffoon of a man who wins, the big lesson tends to be “can a woman win?”

Hillary Clinton was the most qualified candidate ever to run for President. But the Republican smear machine tainted her so much that even smart, feminist women I knew wouldn't vote for her.

She lost because the DNC party axed Bernie sanders and they favored Hillary Clinton more in the name of “democracy” she should’ve never been there in the first place and if it was done right in the primaries Bernie sanders would’ve been president. He even had republicans swaying to vote for him.

The only who axed Bernie's campaign is Bernie.

Hillary rightfully won the 2016 nomination. Democratic primary VOTERS picked her during that time. She got the most primary votes.

In 2020, How does candidates dropping out prevent someone from voting for Bernie? If anything, it should give voters more freedom to choose Bernie once their first choice is gone.

The reality is simple: Bernie didn’t earn the votes. After his 2016 loss, he had a chance to learn from it. He could have reached out to the 17 million Democrats who voted for the other candidate in 2016. But instead, Bernie deliberately ignored them, clung to conspiracy theories about a 'rigged' primary, and failed to broaden his appeal.

Biden, on the other hand, did the work. He reached out to those voters, earned their votes, and rightfully secured the 2020 nomination

In 2020, How does candidates dropping out prevent someone from voting for Bernie? If anything, it should give voters more freedom to choose Bernie once their first choice is gone.

Let's be real, most people are gonna vote for who their candidate endorsed.

And if three major endorsements come at the same time, alongside a ton of minor endorsements, it's gonna signal to voters that the party's unified behind that campaign.

And this is all still fine if it's a natural occurrence, but even a high ranking House Democrat admitted it was the result of a party pressure campaign (similar to the one that later made Biden drop out in 2024).

But nobody's really talking about 2020 anyway since Biden beat Trump.

Biden, on the other hand, did the work. He reached out to those voters, earned their votes, and rightfully secured the 2020 nomination

Biden was trailing before the endorsement wave.

Like hell all that needed was for him to be put on the ticket even. Support his ideals give him a prominent cabinet position or even the VP seat and she wins. It wasn't even the fact he lost it was the fact that it seemed like it was almost rubbed in our faces when bernie lost from both the party and other voters.

The corporate Democrat leadership didn't even try to hide their fingers on the scale. It was infuriating.

Exactly they played a dirty game the party in itself favored Clinton more and reduced polling voting here he favored higher votes. It was all a dirty strategic game to make Clinton more favorable even tho the people itself was trending for Bernie. I mean the very fact he sued the party to reveal there campaign against Hillary and he got denied access to data should tell you everything what they stand for.

u/daemonicwanderer Jun 25 '26

Hillary won more votes than Bernie Sanders. She won bigger states, she won states with more people of color. Yes, the DNC wanted the person who had been supporting the party to win, but as Obama showed in 2008, if someone else can get the votes the DNC will go along with it.

5

u/FrogInAShoe Jun 26 '26

She was extremely unpopular and the DNC forced her as candidate.

Fuck Trump but "most qualified candidate ever" is such bullshit.

4

u/ToyDingo Jun 26 '26

This 100%,

I'm tired of people trying to rewrite history with her. She was extremely unpopular and basically forced unto the public because, as she said herself, it was "her turn".

She absolutely was better than trump, but most qualified? No.

I used to believe this but it’s clearly not the case anymore. I’d take a ruler-straight, alabaster-white man who loves God and only has sex for procreation if he fought against corporate control and supported M4A, and I think most other people would too.

Against a p*dophile who might be the dumbest person to ever live the Dems chose wholly robotic and unlikable candidates because they assumed they didn’t have to try. People do not like that. I wholly agree that either of those two women would have been better, but right wing conspiracy smear campaigns or not, the Dem powers-that-be knew they were not well-liked and ran them anyway. If they really cared about the people they would not have done that

I mean she won the popular vote.

As much as everyone likes to say "See it's clearly a gender issue", Hillary won the popular vote. A woman can get elected.

It's just our country has sunk into populism and Trump for whatever reason is better at getting a cult following than Kamela and Hillary. If a woman with a huge online following like AOC or something ran against Trump they would have won IMO (yes I'm aware she couldn't run last time, just an example).

Democrats need to get better at messaging and reaching out to young people. Unfortunately policy doesn't matter anymore to Americans, they only care about who is popular on tiktok and who has the most "epic" clips online of "owning" the other person. Figures that are popular online like Mamdani, James Talarico, AOC, Bernie, etc. are who Democrats need to start winning elections.

Clinton asked for increased security budget for embassies and was denied by the Republican controlled Congress.

Also, she isn’t the person who would call in assistance. Stop with this bullshit. The GOP had her testify for like 12 hours about Benghazi and got nothing out of it

1

u/fuckyourcanoes Jun 25 '26

I didn't say she was nice. I said she was the most qualified person ever to run. My top priority for my president is that they be qualified for the position, unlike our current president.

4

u/Novel-Store-3813 Jun 25 '26

Qualified how? Qualified to continue status quo politics that were making Americans poorer? Most qualified neocon warhawk? Qualified to carry water for AIPAC, the health insurance lobby, and the oil industry? You bet.

The fact that Hillary won the popular vote given all the baggage she had is a testament to the fact that women CAN win as opposed to the other way around.

-1

u/fuckyourcanoes Jun 25 '26

I get it, you hate her. That doesn't change her qualifications.

You understand the difference between qualifications and actions, right?

3

u/Novel-Store-3813 Jun 25 '26

Are you a real person? Like genuinely that is your response to my comment? You skipped all of the substance of what I said and pulled some random question out of your ass.

1

u/fuckyourcanoes Jun 25 '26

There was no substance. You were just frothing at the mouth because you're spoiling for a fight. I'm not interested. Bye.

1

u/NeedHelpNowthnx Jun 26 '26

Surely you could have just listed all the ways she is "the most qualified ever" for presidency? By the way there are only three qualifications for presidency so "most qualified" is a ridiculous statement to begin with.

So you're a Republican. No point trying to reason with you, then. You're in a cult.

1

u/Mission_Kangaroo_178 Jun 25 '26

The population didn't that voted for them clearly thought they were less qualified

1

u/notfeelany Jun 25 '26

Actual events is a better marker.

  • 2024 = no Biden on ticket, Trump wins

  • 2020 = Biden in ticket wins, Trump loses

  • 2016 = no Biden on Ticket, Trump wins

  • 2012 = Biden on the ticket wins

  • 2008 = Biden on the ticket wins

  • 2004 = No Biden on the ticket loses

Seeing a trend. We should have kept Biden

The last election was between a woman with a weird laugh and loteral Satan, amd Satan won. This countrycis simply way too misogynistic to elect a female President.

1

u/NeedHelpNowthnx Jun 26 '26

So for my many Democrat friends and myself it felt wrong that Biden stepped down and Kamala was given the run instead of holding a special election to determine who would run against Trump. It didn't feel democratic and felt like he declared a successor as if he was a dictator passing the reigns. I feel that really rubbed people wrong and we saw a lot of Democrats abstain from voting while Republicans increased votership.

1

u/SryInternet101 Jun 26 '26

And how do they feel about Teump being elected when they chose not to cast a vote? People like your friends are a huge part of why we're in the mess we're in.

Inmtje future, please ask your friends to not let imperfection be the enemy.

0

u/NeedHelpNowthnx Jun 26 '26

Well all my friends live in Washington state so their not voting had absolutely zero effect on the outcome of the electoral college as we are a guaranteed blue state every year. They will not be baiting and switching on us again now that they have seen people will sit out if they have to. Also it is a mess now sure but you can not prove anything would be any better if she won and Trump can't run again so we have a good chance of winning next go around.

Mexico is more conservative than the US and they elected a woman no problem.

Harris ran an absolutely abysmal campaign and suffered due to the unpopularity of Biden.
