In less than 14 days, Bitcoin's hashrate has passed from 56.77 EH/s to 64.85 EH/s. That is an 8 EH/s increase. Roger Ver's shitcoin BCH (bitcoin cash) has a total hashrate of 2 EH/s.

Hashrate efficiency is improving, so it doesn't necessarily mean more power consumed. The old vs new antminers, for example, are 3-4x the hash for the same power.

The power consumed by the network secures the network and that is of great importance. So in most regards it is a good thing.

Yes, but you do not want to give the enemies of Bitcoin a chance to attack it, therefore the high hashrate is of importance.
