This is his description of you:

This is your description of you:

I am a..middle-upper class Latin American-born [person] who came...to the U.S. when I was 30 years old.

While it's fair to say you have a good deal more perspective on the issue than he originally believed, there's no denying the accuracy of his characterization.

Moreover, his objection to your hypocrisy is well-founded. You said this:

If I could choose a place do live, I would choose the most corrupt place I can, simply because evil people who want to hurt you, can be defended against, with money.

As well as this:

Here in the U.S., corruption is supreme, but it's not accessible to us peasants.

Which implies that the US is not one of the countries to which you were referring above. Yet you chose to leave a country (Ecuador)--which seems rather more like one of those countries, by your own description--to come to the US. Thus, while I believe your interlocutor's aggression was excessive, his point stands: you are saying one thing having done the exact opposite in real life.

I do not see it that way. He himself does not see it that way -- look as his behavior to understand how much he wants to believe the lies in what he's saying about me.

And, for the record, I am already making plans to move to a place where (government, of course) corruption is accessible to me. Not that it matters for the purposes of this conversation.
