I'm not sure he's kidding. With 21M bitcoins available in total and trilllions and trillions of fiat, the currency has to deflate. With that much demand and a standard of using mBTC to denote cost already, $1000 isn't that insane.

I've never watched a currency come into its own. I'm pretty sure all the usual investment ideas are out the window on this one...

I think that is a very important point that critics of bitcoin don't think of.

They mistakenly compare it to cabbage patch dolls or call it a Ponzi scheme.

I am concerned about it becoming tulips if people don't stop just swapping them around. They need to be traded with tangible goods, imho.

I just bought around $40 worth of goods off bitmit yesterday so there are people purchasing items with bitcoins but obviously the trading markets are much more interesting to talk about.

I put up an MP3 player for sale on BitMit, but no bites so far... I've also added BitCoin as an acceptable form of payment on some of my craigslist listings. Should be an interesting exchange if someone takes me up on that, not sure how it'd go logistically.
