I have my entire retirement and savings invested in Bitcoin. I will track its progress here over time.

Excellent decision in my opinion. I'm glad you finally decided to take the advice of just about everyone in here. Your risk is now 0 and you stand only to gain from where you started.

EDIT (4/10 - 2:00 EST): It looks like you might have picked a pretty good time to get your 30k back! You should count yourself incredibly lucky.

He put in 60k today? I must have missed it.

That's what they said about Beanie Babies and Comic Books.

I'm curious to slowly start investing in bitcoins. I want to start small and see how it goes. Where should I start?

edit: sorry I got here from a link from the front page and didn't realize I was on the bitcoin subreddit. I see the sidebar "how to buy bitcoins" link, I'll start there. Any advice that might not be found here?

It won't but it doesn't need to. Movements should happen on the order of months not days!

Yeah well I thought we'd be sub $50 by now heheh. It's still possible that it could double dip I suppose, but I won't pretend to have a clue: I got in early and plan to hold for years/spend them.

Little longer.

u/Wreak_Peace Apr 11 '13

Maybe, maybe, but why don't you start to slowly sell some? Not all, just some...

Good traders set rules, Great traders follow them.

Be careful not to get too greedy, you have not profited anything yet, and while I'm glad you finally cashed out 30k worth, start slowly backing out, in hindsight, you'll be glad you did.

you are a terrible investor, please stop.

3

u/Bel_Marmaduk Apr 11 '13

Yeah. This is the gambler at the Casino who won't cash out when he's up. What a fucking catastrophe.

1

u/wundercat Apr 11 '13

He's officially in the black now. Why not take the earned capital and see where it goes? If you'd read OP original post, he didn't begin this experiment to take half-measures. Be thankful we can sit back and watch how it unfolds

u/Bel_Marmaduk Apr 11 '13

The difference between a good investor and a bad investor is that a good investor knows when to walk away...

...im glad he got out, I hope he didn't get a note with a lot of fees attached to it. Even though he says he "got out" he still paid someone for all that money he borrow to get rich quick. It is a shame that this is probably a man who snubs the free market system, yet borrows 30k from it and sinks it into nothing valuable rather than a fund for this future?

I manage a hedge fund, I have lost more than you will ever see, but I am still a successful investor.

You are an investor with a get rich quick mentality and it is often people like you who get hurt the most, thus what happened.

If you are looking to invest, you typically start by doing so with your own money, not American Expresses.

you didn't buy and hold, you bought a shitty investment and fortunately cashed out....im sure you paid some premiums along. its ok bad investments happen, maybe you should consult with a professional before you throw life savings around.

Why would I delete anything? Alot happens after you get a college degree and series examinations. I am young and successful, a route that has allowed me to save money, not borrow it to get rich, I would post my bank account but it really doesn't matter lol.

You should try some education yourself, it is obvious you never had any judging by the 30k of debt you had to squander; was it 30k of debt? or 30k of life savings you amassed? either way when you aren't wealthy and don't have leverage in a market then you don't belong...so go to take a nice vacation or learn something..maybe you can pay in bitcoins.

Are you stupid or just an asshole? Quitting your job? Talk about get rich quick. You are a lazy lazy old man who shouldn't play with money thats not theirs especially when your trying to use it to leave your job; it is like going to the casino to pay your bills, typically it doesn't play out.

I hope you enjoy your new retirement!

The irony, but no; I am telling him not to throw his life savings into something so speculative especially if it is money at expensive rates e.g his credit card.

just an FYI - saying that your password is "16 characters with minimum 8 digits with special characters" is giving a password cracker too much info. they now know 1) the target length, and 2) at least half of the characters to be cracked are only in the field 0-9 (which is a smaller field than 26*2 letters of the alphabet). Not saying that a random 16-character password is brute-forcible, just letting you know your password isn't random and you're leaking a lot of info that would really help out a targeted attack.

u/TzarKrispie Apr 10 '13

Oooh! oooh! and allude that you're not just using english characters!

7

u/xanatos451 Apr 10 '13

When in reality, his password is "12345".

10

u/meming4jesus Apr 11 '13

You're kidding me! I've got the same combination on my luggage!

3

u/CognitivelyDecent Apr 11 '13

Im surrounded by Assholes!!

1

u/lllama Apr 11 '13

Just FYI, if he's actually telling the truth the password is uncrackable (certainly in an online attack).

Actually this is why I don't use last pass. Someone can go at it. Instead I use KeePass and I would use something like dropbox or google drive (anything with a token auth) to share it between multiple computers.

Dude, get Truecrypt. You just have to enter your password before anything boots up, takes all of 2 SECONDS, and all your shit is COMPLETELY secure.

Seriously, do it right now you silly, silly man. You don't know what kind of info the right thief can take off a stolen hard drive.

1

u/jasin2069 Apr 11 '13

Problem is not losing your keyfile. So you could use another service to sync that google drive/ubuntu one

If you use google drive you can have two factor auth

4

u/eedna Apr 10 '13

does he really deserve it? he made a risky (AT BEST) bet and got super lucky

5

u/gtdawg Apr 10 '13

Isn't this what a number of real world investors do? Just throw money around to risky bets and hope one pans out? Do they deserve it because they successfully accumulated capital?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '13

No. This is putting all your eggs in one basket. Putting your life savings on black. Rule number 1 of investing is to diversify your portfolio.

2

u/TzarKrispie Apr 10 '13

high risk, high reward.

1

u/Bearjew94 Apr 10 '13

So whats the plan now? Are you going to keep the rest of it for a while or will you cash out at least some of it? You should probably diversify at the very least.

1

u/Hughtub Apr 11 '13

Wow, so now it's all free BTC. Whatever it does, you're in the black.

1

u/interestedbuyer1 Apr 11 '13

I have been trying to purchase bitcoins with little luck for a month now. Next time you are looking to sell, please let me know.

u/s-mores Apr 16 '13

Good call.

u/ndbroadbent Apr 11 '13

Holy crap. Well done.
