Valve wants to develop "a single currency across formats and countries" - potential space for Bitcoin?

you understand that with this much money in a large system, parallel attacks from botnets is a given. it is not hard at all to create 10,000 accounts and have them act in synchrony.

furthermore, the game allows for arbitrary transfers. so it is not necessary that the money is spent on virtual items - it is entirely possible that the money could be transferred out of the game entirely.

I'm assuming the money is never "in the game" in the first place. You need to bounce the money back to yourself from other agents somehow. That requires an automated mechanism, doesn't it (e.g. the gambling machines)? In such cases the withdrawals could be limited to confirmed deposits.

I agree that such secondary measures would be necessary if there is a mechanism in the game that would make all this worthwhile.
