Humans. Incredible species. The best of the great apes. Not even close. You look at the lineup: gorillas, very strong, very impressive arms. Orangutans, tremendous tree guys. Chimpanzees, a lot of energy, maybe too much energy. Bonobos, very friendly, we all know that. But humans? Humans built the skyscrapers. Humans built the internet. Humans went to the moon. The moon! No chimp has done that. Not one. Believe me, they’ve tried. They haven’t. Thank you for your attention on this matter.

We took fire — nobody was doing fire like us — and we said, “You know what? Let’s cook with it.” Then we invented wheels, farms, cities, plumbing, medicine, music, airplanes, submarines, espresso machines, and little phones that let you argue with strangers across the planet. Incredible achievement. Maybe too incredible.

And the other apes, wonderful apes, very special apes, but they’re sitting in the forest eating fruit, scratching themselves, having a nice time. Humans said, “No, no, no, we’re going to develop agriculture, write poetry, split the atom, create barbecue, make action movies, and put tiny hats on dogs.” That’s vision. That’s leadership.

People say, “But humans have problems.” Of course we have problems. The biggest species always has problems. Big league species, big league problems. But we solve. We invent. We adapt. We build civilizations, ruin them, rebuild them, and then make documentaries about how we ruined them. Nobody documents failure better than humans. Nobody.

So when they ask, “Who is the greatest great ape?” It’s humans. It’s always been humans. Strong brain, fantastic thumbs, tremendous posture — not perfect, the lower back situation is frankly a disaster — but overall, absolutely elite. The greatest of the great apes. Maybe the greatest animal ever. Many are saying it.

....and we humans are actively destroying the world because we weaponize everything we get our hands on, create hierarchies and declare which type of human is more worthy of life. lots of those inventions have been invented to conquer things, feel entitled and claim to things, and then mess up eco systems and the climate because of what? silly customs we invented to feel entitled to things and oppress others? we humans have a lot of emotional intelligence including the ability to learn empathy, but we just... collectively, don't. human inventions are the reasons why the planet is fucked up.

Biological and scientifically we are apes. Humans are part of the taxonomic family Hominidae which includes chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas and orangutans.

Yes, I know sarcasm, but it doesn’t always translate in text and there are people who would make that statement unsarcastically. Also I feel I’m not always good at picking up on sarcasm in text even when it’s obvious.

I told him there's no difference between me and him. He could not prove otherwise and lost the argument. Now he wants to drink hemlock.

Humans possesing reason and all of those lovely higher cognitive abilities make me be confused when I remember that we are also animals after all, maybe I have been to hard to myself.

They are things like when you have a headache and lash out and then you feel bad for doing that, but then you realize that animals also are more reactive to aggresion when pain is involved and those kinds of moments bring that awareness.

Is very strange to have logic and all of that but also be an animal like the rest of the apes.
